Two Updates Today

Nathan has a running complaint that I steal all the dogs from him. He then says the only way I am successful is I treat them. Of course he is teasing me but it's moments like these that I know he is full of ahem. hahahaha

Well we had to rush Inula to the vets today. She didn't appear herself. It's hard to explain but you know your dog then she peed in the house several times - unlike her and each time it had blood in it. I was figuring she has stones. It turns out she has a urinary tract infection and has antibiotics almost triple the dose that the havanese have. Poor thing. Hope it passes quickly. Seeing Inula is Nathan's dog, I will let him have the fun of giving her meds twice a day. Nice of me? So we were going to put off the anniversary meal. Our vet bills due to Adele and this has us cringing. We went locally as Nathan couldn't be away for a long time.

Here is today's gallery.

Cooper arrived today. Anne and Russell brought holiday gifts for Dennis, Nathan and I plus the pups. Too generous - seriously but wow guess where we are getting takeout from tomorrow. Filet Mignon and Shrimp - yum! Now I hope that Cooper gets dirty so I can do a free bath. :-) Play your heart out, Cooper. I was resigned to forgetting about tomorrow. Wow good friends are hard to come by and incredibly special.

PS: Dennis is so jazzed by his gift. He went WOW!

Sherry also brought a fan she doesn't need anymore as she is moving to a condo. Her home sold in record time. I now don't have to sneak opening the window. Thank you!!!! VERY special, indeed!

Then if that wasn't enough, I think the sound on the tv died but I am in too good of a mood to be bummed and I am hoping Dennis can fix. Well Dennis says its the speakers to the tv itself and he can't help. He keeps saying sorry... Shut it off, turned off the speakers to the tv and its crackling. Sounds like the circuit board is frying or something. Joy...

Tiny and Winston was here for grooming and play. Dolly was here for play. It's an absolutely fun bunch.

Nathan and Dennis are off to the movies to see Dr Strange. We are finally using up movie tix we had as presents that were about to expire. Tracy is supposed to be helping but I think she is a sickie. Please do not give it to me.

It's been a day - ups and downs. Life but today more ups then downs.

Darlah, so glad it was just a bladder infection. (if you can say that about a bladder infection). Glad to hear you are still going to celebrate. Anniversaries are very special. Hope your family keeps the sickies away for the holidays so you can enjoy. I know about vet bills. Not as big as yours but Katie has been feeling down and we went through blood tests, x-rays and ultra sounds with special consultants. Seems to have a problem with her liver and after the tests, two tries with antibiotics and now on something else. Stopped at the pet store for some vitamins as she was always eating grass but not to throw up. The sales lady asked me about the dog and after finding out about the antibiotics, suggested that I try probiotics. Between the probiotics and the other meds, Katie is now back to her old self. The vet said that older dogs (10 years) can develop problems but I am hoping for many more years.

Marilyne:

Sorry to hear about your dog. Vet bills are not fun.

I am getting into the - I could buy a small car realm. The Adele thing really cost us in a huge way and then this with Inula but I am so glad it was not stones. Stones would have been an operation. Instead it was just under a grand today so who am I to complain.

Tell me what did they think was wrong with the liver? High alts are normal with havanese. Be aware of that. That's not to say it should be sky high but they do normally run high.

Probiotics are good to feed to all dogs after a round of antibiotics. My vet uses Fastrak with all her dogs daily. I usually only use it after a bout of loose stools or antibiotics. It only helps and doesn't do harm.

Grass eating is quite common. It tends to soothe their tummy. Smooshing up a half of a tab of Tums and throwing it in their food will calm the tummy too.

Did the testing tell you your dog had a deficiency in vitamins? I usually do not give vitamins as too much can create issues and most commercial diets have all the vitamins they need. The exception is if you are feeding a home made diet.

Ten years is a senior and just like humans some live a long life and some a shorter life. Our Katsura is the same age. I expect yours will have many more years.

Remember Risa where her values were so off? She's slowing down and is years older than yours but she still is doing rather well. Like you I hope they could live forever. Hugs!!

I am so glad Inula has only a bladder infection. I have had two schnauzers who had stone surgery, runs in schnauzers.

Let the gifts be a testament to how much your puppy people really appreciate all you do. We really do appreciate all you do for the dogs and us.

High vet bills with some of our previous dogs is why we have pet insurance for our dogs. I treat it like a savings plan I hope I don't need to use!

Angela:

I hear you. Over 2 dogs then it doesn't make sense. It's like the spin of the wheel. Sometimes it pays and other times it doesn't. Insurance is in business to make $$. :-)

But for peace of mind with 2 - that's worth a great deal!

I know a Havanese that just had stones removed in the city and it cost them 4800. Rare that it happens in a havanese but it does. Still, our vet would be half that cost - still rich in cost but not like the city.

I am counting my blessings. a UTI is not comfie and the tests etc was not cheap but better than an operation for sure.

Instead of sedate, it has made Inula a wild one. I think she is uncomfie. Hope this passes soon.

I am sorry to hear about Inula A bladder infection is awful in humans I am sure it is not better for our dogs. I hope the meds help. I am on probiotics now because I was on an antibiotic for a toothache. It is good to know you can give them to our dogs. Are they special for dogs or just regular ones? I will ask again if I need it. We had a serious bout with Rusty a while back and he stayed at the emergency hospital all night and then all day at the vets. With meds, special food and of course blood tests it was very expensive. I agree that if I had many dogs it would not be worth insurance but with one it really does help. Our insurance just covers major issues not the regular visits. Darlah I am sorry you didn't get a special dinner but it sounds like tomorrow's dinner will be lovely. Let me know where you can order in such yummy food. I agree with Angela we all appreciate everything you and Nathan and Dennis do for us and all those loving puppies. Do probiotics help prevent you from getting sick. If so start taking them. Although they too are really expensive.

Human probiotic supplements are not harmful to your havanese. They do not provide the most benefits. Your havanese needs a supplement that is specific to its species. Dog probiotics include bacteria found in human supplements and bacteria strains specific to them. The ones from the vets is the most expensive. I know lately they are all pushing Purina's Foriflora. You can get it cheaper from amazon.ca. If you give it to them always it can be quite expensive.

My fave restaurant is Akasaka on HW7. That's where. :-)

Thank you for the appreciation. We try. Think - well I know we love the dogs more than ourselves. :-)
