Trouble and Pals

We had a strange night with Trouble. She wasn't sure what was what. She had a haircut and she smelt different. Remember dogs are visual and use their sense of smell to know who you are. She looked different and smelt differently. Even Panda didn't know her.

So today I washed her and Panda got excited when she smelt her and was following her around everywhere excited. The dogs started smelling and reacted as if to say, oh now we know who you are. Poor Trouble knew them but they didn't seem to know her. This morning it's all starting to change after the bath.

Then Barney came in shaved and it was as if he was a new dog but they are now playing with him.

Here is a small gallery taken this morning.

It is nice to see the changes.

So fluffy and clean! I really see Panda in her face with the short cut.

I think she is gorgeous but I like short cuts in addition to longer hair. I just find the short cuts easier to manage. I am so very glad she is getting back to normal and the dogs now recognize her for who she is.

Her hair is shaved around the eyes. It is an improper way to groom a havanese.

Trouble is cute long or short but when our grand daughter saw her she decided that River would look best long. River is her dog and she was contemplating a puppy cut.

Darlah, do you have a pic of what a Havanese face should look like when they have a puppy cut? Please don't go out of your way, just thought you might have one handy.

December 6, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAngela, Patches and Radar

Yes, she has Panda's face. Could tell with long hair too. :-) I think Trouble would look good longer in her face and thicker ears (they were thinned out) and a bit longer in hair.

But if she was going to remain it would take 2 bloody years at least before we could show her. Hair on head and face grow the slowest.

Sorry - still off kilter about this.

Look at any puppy that has not been cut and you will see a proper puppy cut. The hair lays down around the eyes not shaved.

Duh, what a nut I am. I never thought of that. I will definitely look at both Patches' and Radar's photos when they were 10 weeks - I have lots of them when they were brought home. That would show me.

I love the short cuts. And I love short ears like Barney has. I call them Doritos ears. They make a very distinctive sound when they shake their heads.

Trouble is a beauty short & long! You just want to hug her (like Nathan).

Trouble is lovely, she has a gorgeous face.

A groomer I think her name is Jodie Murphy, has a video out - How to groom a Havanese and she mentions not shaving around the eyes. I think groomers should look at the video if unsure how to do a Havanese puppy cut, she shows two methods, one with scissors and one with the clippers. I found the video by accident while looking for info on Havanese grooming.
I know a groomer who does the same cut on every dog no matter what the breed. They all look like they just came from the pound.

Trouble and Ozzie are both Panda babies. They have such beautiful eyes. It looks like she is adjusting. I cannot imagine giving back one of your Havanese, but I remind myself that is how we got Ozzie.

I'm happy to hear that Trouble is back to her old self. Her cut may be different but she is the same puppy, sweet and very loving.

Great photos of Trouble and Nathan. They truly melt my heart.

December 6, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAnne and Cooper

I agree with Anne, my heart melted looking at the photos of Nathan and Trouble. Happy to hear everyone at Talemaker is doing better!

Wow, Trouble is a very beautiful pup. Nathan looks so happy hugging her. I am sure the feelings were mutual. Happy to hear that everyone now recognizes her.
Perhaps it was the lingering effects of a scented shampoo that confused everyone.

Trouble is Beautiful ! So sweet and I am sure everyone at your place is happy. We are. Darlah I am not sure you remember but Rusty was groomed by another groomer ONCE Close to home and recommended. We went ahead of time because I was nervous about her grooming Rusty. She told me of course she knew how to cut Havanese. I left her and when I came back I picked up a poodle. At least the cut was a poodle cut. My Rusty but short ears and very short almost skinned Rusty. I was in shock. You were so kind to me Darlah when I spoke to you about it. You said the hair will grow back but it took me a long time to get over it. Of course Rusty was Rusty but I was angry. Trouble is Trouble and you have a lot more reason to feel discouraged about her beautiful hair but she is a beautiful, loving puppy and we all love her.

Trouble is a true beauty! Just look at that face! So lovable!

Love the pics how happy Nathan and Trouble are! I especially like the one pic where you caught Trouble in the air!

Ronnie: Sounds like you met the groomer near me, frightening if there is more than one.

December 7, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSu

Ok, this just confirms my decision to bring Ollie only to Darlah for his grooming. I was beginning to think I was crazy that I was willing to drive a 2 hour drive from Bobcaygeon down to Talemaker for all his grooming needs but after reading these posts and seeing what damage a groomer can do, I know I'm not. Yikes!! Trouble will always be beautiful but still, she is a Havanese.

Su:

:-)

then there are those that ask you to duplicate those jobs.... really...

December 7, 2016 | Registered CommenterDarlah

We love Darlah but it was a time she was not available. Rusty loves Darlah even more. Yesterday we said the name "Darlah" and Rusty actually stopped what he was doing and looked around for her. Everybody loves Darlah.

December 7, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterRonnie

As for us, although Cooper has a full coat, it needs to be thinned out once a year and we only trust Darlah to do it. We drive 5 hours for this and it's worth it. I wish we could get Cooper groomed at Talemaker on a regular basis. Not easy to find the perfect groomer that will listen to what you want. Every time we take him for a bath, we have to repeat our instructions just to be on the safe sIde :-)

Darlah, I met the groomer who shaves on a walk, she offered to clip Pup after patting Pup she said the whole coat was knots and mats. It was a day we had no mats anywhere not even the legs as she had just been brushed out.
After seeing my friends cocker spaniel, a scottie, a Westie, a lasa type and a schnauzer all identical. I ran the other way. The sad thing is she is proud of the cuts.
When I spoke to those with pound hound cuts they said they were really upset and would never go to her again.

I love the way you groom, the dogs always look perfect.

December 7, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSu

I agree with the rest of the folks that love Darlah's grooming. It is too frightening to even think about finding someone to give Kona a trim. My sister in law and I tried to just tidy up Kona's coat a little. It is not too bad, but I think we were afraid to take off too much.

Kathy:

If you do a little each time you will get there. Bravo for trying!
