Ice Mess

Dennis took a few photos but there is no way I am going to fall on my ahem out there to take photos. Sorry. We had an ice storm last night and it is pure ice out there. See the very few photos he did take.

The dogs are not happy but Dennis has been playing the game running of the bulls with them. You see the game with Nathan and Dennis when they run with the pups but it is a bit more chaotic with the larger dogs and they all compete. I would have captured a photo of it but Dennis said you can't take photos of me. So here we are leaving you to imagine.

We do take them out several times a day but its a slow process. Hoping it warms up to melt and go away but not sure that will happen.

Dad's back in the hospital. They repaired his esophagus but they can't figure out why he can't eat or drink. Nothing has changed with Eli.

Heading to the orchid show on Saturday with Christine. I may buy a few for my Valentine's day gift to me. I look forward to going out with Christine and the dogs will give Nathan some company so win/win. Counting the days.

Tomorrow is the last class for Thyme and the siblings. Then we get to do Raven and Stormy.

That ice would make walking very hazardous.
All we had was rain, rain and more rain. We do not have a speck of snow left here
in Niagara. At least as it gets colder the ground will freeze up again. Not as messy.

So sorry to hear that Nathan's Dad is not rallying. I hope you soon will have answers regarding your grandson Eli's condition. Lots of worries.

Sorry to hear about Nathan's dad. I hope they can figure out what the problem is. Most importantly, I hope he is not in any pain. Ice is not fun for humans and doggies. Best to stay safe indoors. Crazy winter. Hopefully the orchids show will put you in a somewhat "spring" mood".

I am also so sorry to hear about Nathan's Dad. it is hard on him but also hard on the family.

Where is the orchid show. That is my favourite flower. I buy my own presents too. That way I get what I really want.

I didn't comment on the last few blogs. My iPad at home is getting old. I love the Ella pics and I can't wait for Rusty to be an Uncle. Beautiful and charming Ella.

Darlah you gave us great shampoos and OMG conditioner in our package. I tried to compare but can't find the same products. You do make our beautiful dogs smell so good and look amazing. Again you have the touch (and the products).

Thanks for the tips. I bought a lot at BioPaw. They were so nice. Rusty will be happy tonight on the bone!! Enjoy your day tomorrow!

Yes the ice is quite bad. Nathan carries logan and panda out to their car as its simply so bad even though we have tons of stuff to break up the ice. It's not working.

Question for everyone. I'm moving from a house to a condo so Murphy is will be losing her beloved back yard. She races around abd expends a lot of energy. I am not comfortable allowing her in off leash parks. How do those of you without yards manage to race around with your dogs or let them run off the energy? (Other than at the Talemakers Wonderland of course :)

Sherry it is much harder without a fenced backyard. Off leash parks unless there are not any other dogs are not places that I go. I go to the basement here and throw a ball around and get Kona to bring it back to me. We keep it up until he is puffing.
Leash walking is the only other exercise, so you need to take long walks.

There are some indoor dog play places. Maybe you can look into one located near to your new home. Signing up for another round of classes will keep Murphy stimulated.
Talemaker playdates are also good until you find new places to play.

Sherry:

As you know she is 'always' welcomed here. Come warmer weather you can come and sit outside, swim and so can she.

There are things you can do in condos. You can look online for tricks you can teach her. It will stimulate her mind. You can also play the crazy game of run in the house like Nathan and Dennis do. There are games of retrieve. I know some that use their hallways. I know when Ruth moved to a condo it was an adjustment. It took her awhile.

Walks are great on warmer days. A drive to Hazelton Lanes where she can walk inside with you or to a dog store. You don't have to buy anything to walk a Petsmart or Global, Pet Valu or any other dog store. The Beaches have a number of stores they can go into.

Sorry to hear about the roller coaster ride regarding Dad's health situation. I really hope that the docs can figure out about his eating issues.

Sherry: Darlah mentioned lots of things you can do with your pup in a condo.
We live in a condo, so we really have to spend a lot of time to burn our puppy energy.
Going to Talemaker Resort is the best.
When our pup was small, we would sit in the lobby to do people/dog watch. She would meet people and greet them. Otherwise, we walk Tenshi two-three times a day on the leash. I sometimes would run like crazy with her on the sidewalk. We would go to the ravine park or a school yard on down time or the park close to us. When the park is not that busy with a big area, we would leash her in the flexi leash so she will have more of leash length to run around. Of course, she would meet so many different dogs, so she would do some small play with them.
I'm not crazy over off leash park, I'm too worried about the other dogs not behaving. Sunnybrook park has a small off leash section for small dogs, but we just went to walk around the fence of the off leash park as Tenshi is on leash. I hear Sherwood park is good too. When weather is bad, we walk around in pet stores. I have also brought her to the TV room or the party room in the condo so we can play retrieve. We would use the hallway of our condo to play retrieve too.

I'm hoping to bring Tenshi to this cafe shop that is tailored for dogs at young and eglinton: http://sitstaydogemporium.com/shop/ We are also close to Shops at Don Mills, it's a outdoor mall. We would around the mall on leash. Sometimes I would sneak her in her carrier bag to get a coffee and a breakfast.

I hope that Murphy and you will adjust slowly.

The orchid show is awsome , I go every year.
Clarity and Farley are going to enjoy their play time with Nathan and the Talemaker crew while Darlah and I enjoy the show and orchid shopping while we dream of our gardens.
There are quite a few parks in the city that cater to ONLY small dogs. I feel safe in these off leash parks. Once my pool cover is off, the doggies running room is greatly reduced.

Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!! Sylvia, it sounds like you are in my neighbourhood. Perhaps Tenshi and Murphy could have a playdate :)

Thanks for the info on the Orchid Show. I got confused with days, I guess I was wishing it was already Friday. I do a lot of retrieve with Rusty in our house just along the hallway. Rusty asks for it every night. My son Evan also has a wild time with Rusty daily. We walk, no so long, with Rusty a few times every day but I worry about this ice. It is cute to see Rusty walking so carefully outside but he doesn't really enjoy doing his business on ice, but in the end he will. Just takes longer. I am not a fan of off leash runs as well. I worry about other dogs. Everyone loves their dog and think they are angels but sometimes they just don't get along with yours. I too love the Talemaker Spa, and am determined to visit more often. Just hard to organize.

Darlah I feel so bad for Eli. When the are young they are so vulnerable. I assume they can't really settle his migraines?

February 9, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterRonnie

Sherry: good idea in the play date for Murphy and Tenshi. Let us know when you are settled and ready for some play fun!

February 9, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterSylvia

So sorry to hear about your Dad and Eli. This is so stressful for all of you.
Sherry: I too am afraid of off leash parks because accidents can happen so quickly. I have a long nylon leash that I had to buy a number of years ago for a training class and I find that very useful in public park type situations. Because it is so light weight the dogs don't notice it so much and it give them freedom while still giving me control.

Yeah dad is not doing well.
