Such a Slacker

I am becoming such a slacker but this is a no photo day. Its simply way too cold outside for the dogs to do outdoor things. Dennis has had running games with them upstairs. They have had a ton of fun doing that. They are now all sleeping.

Inula got best in breed but nothing in group. What that means is she has another point to her championship. This was unexpected. Nathan doesn't get home till 730ish. Then he is back at the shows first thing. We woke up at 5am. I tried going back to sleep with the dogs on the couch and it was impossible. This dog or that walking up and over and every which way. I think they were telling me something.

We are keeping Ella home tomorrow as our schedule is terrible. Havs are showing at 9am and TTs at 330. It means a terribly long day for a puppy. We will show her on Sunday when the schedule is close. She did well today getting group. She did not win the entire thing as Nathan said she was clearly tired. I do not want her disliking the shows.

Next week baths start again on my crew and a few others. Maxine was here for a bath. She was great. She's such a fun dog.

Kona gets another bath first thing Monday as he will be heading home.

No Photo Day

Have too much on my plate today. We had handling class last night, last class for the Jeannie and Roxie crew, Then I come home and I must wash Ella for the show and pack Nathan up for the show. I just finished Inula.

So, instead of the usual update today I will post this photo of Abigil and Fiona. I still miss them tremendously but they seem to be enjoying life. But that's not what this is about. This is about sables. Do you see how light both went? Sables go light the dark and light throughout their lives. Both are in their darker stage now. This was the lightest they got. I love sables as they are always changing. Ms. Roxie has gone darker these days.

The havanese are so fascinating - don't you think?

Everyone is doing really well. The crew is really tight - meaning they are playing and enjoying each other thoroughly. Last weekend for Kona. We will miss him in a huge way and as you can see he has been playing his heart out.

More tomorrow. I plan to click more tomorrow and have videos from the last class.

Snow and Cold

IIt's not as cold as its been but it is snowing and dogs are still lifting their paws. I am so tired of yellow snow that it best give us a decent amount of snow or melt. hahahaha

Here are a few photos that I took today but honest - they are going in and out so much but they are lifting their paws and wanting to come back in. So in and out we go many many times a day.

Just another day of fun and trying to stay home with an interesting winter of 2015. The dogs ARE having fun!

Such a Slacker

It's a tad warmer today but we had a broken dryer, a puppy visit with two of Jeannie's pups (huge thanks for the yum desserts.) I also didn't click anything but the pups. You see Roxie is in heat and I believe Leti is coming into heat. Leti refused to play and well when a gal is in heat they usually stay in my office and get girls let in to play with or have to be taken out without the boys seeing. Its a crazy process so when we have visitors with a gal in heat we either have to put them away or the boys away. So while we have visits Dennis sits in and watches tv with them. Sometimes he goes upstairs with them or outside and runs with them but today with a repair guy coming for the dryer at the same time as a visit they went into the tv room to cuddle with Dennis. Besides its a tad warmer but still too cold to stay out for a period of time.

Right now Roxie is in prime and she is not being bred. She is over on the 23rd but if Leti comes in we have another for 3 weeks and the separation continues. Even if the males are neutered they can connect - yes that is so true. They just can't create puppies. Then if a neutered male does connect he will always be looking. That's not fair to the dog so that means mostly the gal in heat is away while the boys and others play. But we look for opportunities for the gal in heat to have her time to play too outside of the office as I believe they need to play, get out and live. When gals are in heat at least twice a day the crew watch tv and have their downtime with Dennis or Nathan. Sometimes Nathan naps with them. Other times he watches tv. We always try to give the dogs down time twice a day as they play nonstop.

So this is our life with dogs in heat. The boys count neutered and not and so do the girls. The gals aren't up to par so they want and need more downtime than the rest that are not in heat.

Isn't this more than you ever want to know? The long story is no photos. hehehe

PS: Several hundred dollars later I have a dryer. I have to have a dryer.

Let Down

I am still playing catchup. When you go to a show everything you didn't get done that day is there for you the next day. Nathan can sit ddown and nap - me, it just goes on so I did a gallery of just a few photos. I apologize but I need some downtime and with 5 dogs to bathe today plus finding photos, creating a gallery, brushing everyone - well I am exhausted.

We have class on Wednesday. Class on Thursday and Thursday night I am bathing again so Nathan can go to the show on Friday. I need sleep. So indulge me. The dogs are having fun despite the bitter cold.

Now I want to lay down in 45 minutes on the couch with dogs and watch Westminster. Forgive me.

Showed Out

The blogs will resume tomorrow. I am way too tired and we have baths to do for tomorrow's departures. I promise a gallery of the last couple of days tomorrow night but not today. Besides we don't have many play outdoors as its -40 here so its not safe for the dogs to stay outdoors long so indoor play is the best and we are still getting to chase those willies out of them.

We have had a great show weekend with Buddy, Muntuno, Inula and Ella. All were winners. Well, they are all winners without anyone telling me but nice to win at times too.

Till tomorrow... Just know everyone is having a blast and Dennis has been amazing with the dogs and Jon has helped a bunch too! Without them I couldn't have seem the wins.

Extreme Cold

Buddy got his championship and he also got best puppy in group. Daddy Truffie and Momma Spice is proud of him.

They took a photo before group. They got the photo to prove it and I took a photo of it. Ella got nothing. It was a tad overwhelmong for her but she got better as she was showing. She should have won but started wit her tail half mast. We just arrived before showing. Inula got breed.

Ella's going to be good at this and this was her first showing. Muntuno got Select. We had an excellent day for Talemaker.

I am tired and I will have to create a gallery of the dogs at the end of the weekend. I am simply too exhausted.

It is so bitter cold -40c so it is actually dangerous for the dogs to stay outside long.

Bitter Cold

Its bitter cold. It's actually too cold to spend time outdoors for anything but going out, doing your duty, interact for a couple of minutes and back indoors. So no photos today. Although they are playing inside, its hard to get a photo when they are interacting.

Besides - I think I am tired today. Everyone is brushed and we at Talemaker wish all of you a Happy Valentine's Day.

Nothing for Inula today. Buddy got Best of Winners and Best Puppy in Breed.

Too Cold a Day

Cooper is here putting on birthday hats and humans clicking to send a birthday greeting to his human dad sunning on a beach. Cooper says - really?

Oh Cooper is having fun but he wasn't happy about staging these photos with THAT hat. Happy Birthday Russell.

Dogs are too cold today. We had a ton of lifting paws. But they still managed to have a lot of fun. We didn't have crazy insane running like the day before but they did play. They went out them in then out then in on and on and on. Each time they went out they went hey why can't we be on that beach with Anne and Russell. Here are a few photos from today. Everyone got brushed and combed up but now Dennis and Jon will be taking care of the crew so I can go to class with the Ella Bella.

Yuck Yellow Snow

It's getting bad when you hope for snow so the yellow goes away as it simply interferes with your photos. But here is a small gallery taken today. I will tell you the snowflakes invigorated Kona. He was a crazy dog. Odin was here and departed. Miss Penny departed. Miss Maddie departed. We miss them! But Nora and Shady arrived.

Its been a fun house today but a few baths for some.

Risa was a crazy dawg today climbing on my desk to try to eat food. Tsk Tsk you haven't tried that since you jumped up on the top of the desk one year and started throwing treats off to the other dogs. Risa believes in sharing. I guess she ois feeling better and maybe I will really sleep tonight. I need to.

Ozzie is a playing monkey and he finds Nora delightful. Shady LOVES LOVES Cooper and Alene he is having a great time. So is the Miss Nora.

Think that is it for today. I am a bit under the weather and I need some off time - a relaxing - watch tv and cuddle with dogs moment. Nathan is at handling class with Ella. I was not up to going.

Risa Update

Good news - benign. Here is what the vet said as she can't help it. :-)

Hi, Please see the results of the biopsy on Risa's ear mass. Locally invasive benign tumor. Unfortuntely, because Lex tried to salvage the end of the ear, there is incomplete excision. If it grows back, ear amputation would be required. We will see how it goes. We hope she has recovered well.

From what I read from Idexx it is a sebaceous cyst. Why the ear would have to be amputated, I am not sure. She tends to lean towards the worst case scenario. Lex does not.

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: Sections of this mass are characterized by a proliferative population of basaloid epithelial cells forming discrete nodular masses supported by a robust fibrovascular stroma. Moderate numbers of lymphocytes and plasma cells are noted within the supporting stroma. These basaloid epithelial cells frequently differentiate to produce nodules of sebaceous cells and ductular structures. There is no significant cellular atypia and infrequent mitotic activity (4 per 10 400 X). These proliferative cells extended to the hemorrhagic margins of the examined section.

MICROSCOPIC INTERPRETATION: Sebaceous gland epithelioma; excision incomplete

COMMENT: Sebaceous gland epitheliomas are relatively common neoplasms of dogs that arise from the basaloid reserve cells of sebaceous glands. These tumors are usually solitary firm nodules or plaque like masses that are often ulcerated. They most often occur in the skin of the head, eyelids, dorsal neck, and back. As with sebaceous adenomas, Cocker Spaniels and Poodles have a higher incidence of these lesions. Sebaceous epitheliomas have similar biologic behavior to basal cell carcinomas and are considered to be a low grade malignancy; thus, they are locally aggressive but rare to metastasize.

Long Day

Will get better at this. I promise. I had baths and haircuts to do today and the Risa etc so thankfully for Dennis and Nathan the dogs had a blast.

Inside please...

Is that snow coming?

Maddie and Kona get baths tomorrow. Maddie is departing. Kona - well I brush him and comb him and well he needs a bath. :-)  Maddie had one not long ago and boy she needs one too.

Risa had her first exploration today.

Cooper and Ozzie had a play session.

I have more photos but Rocco is departing soon and we have a club meeting. Just know everyone has fun even when we are tired. hahahaha

Very Short Update

Not doing galleries or putting up any other photos today. I am exhausted mentally and physically and sometimes you have to be proactive.

All the dogs are having a blast.

We had Risa in to the vets for a growth on the end of her ear flap. They were talking about taking the ear off. When all was said and done they took the growth off. Due to the growth being fast they assumed skin cancer and removed vs. wait. We worried about anesthesia etc but she is still stoned but she sure wants her food. She is also jumping up on to the couch with ease - so even stoned she is agile. She has a bit of laboured breathing but that shall pass when the narcotics wears off we hope. She did have a tube down her throat. We get the biopsy results back by Thursday.

When taking it off he is now leaning towards it being a Sebaceous Gland Tumor. If this is the case it is benign. If not, we removed it.  Risa has been healthy without issues. Pre-surgery test results all came back as if she is a young thing that runs marathons without the damage of impact us crazy humans do when we go into overdrive with sports. Every test she has had has been positive.

But I did have my mind wander and I worried through surgery and I do want to spend the time with her as she is still having breathing you can hear. So blogs will be short.

Please realize that as your havanese gets old they can get lumps and bumps that are just that and nothing more but still we always worry. Its normal to worry about those we love.

Dawg Play

Not many photos today. With Nathan being away and the wet, wet snow, I have had a lot to do - drying the dogs plus I had baths with dogs departing. I do have a short gallery but not with everyone. There are days you spend so much time drying that you don't have enough time clicking the camera.

Kona is so fascinated with the pups and so is Cooper. Perhaps this is due to them being older. They can truly play back and do the things that dogs do. Kona was under the table snuggling with Ella and I went to crouch down to get the photo and they moved. I need a smaller camera or an invisible one. Don't they make spy cameras? hahahaha

Eventually I will get a GOPro silver and wear it around. Now that may be ridiculous but I am so tired of missed shots. My goal is to get it by summer so I can do underwater video of the dogs and their legs etc. I want it in time for pups before they depart. My plan is to have puppies swimming. Maybe Roxie and Panda can help them learn to love it as they will be a psuedo moms as they are taking a break.

Here is today's gallery.

One day I will tell you what it is like having 5 pups in bed with you plus the dogs.

Here is Adele's champion photo.

Plus the Inula.

What a Day

Had this crazy idea of turning lots of photos into smaller versions to place on the blog and then realized I had too many so now I have smaller photos on a gallery. Here it is. Hope its okay even though the photos are smaller - sized to place on the blogs.

I am out of time. We have had a day. Our van is dead. The car was with the son and we decided to rent a van so Nathan could get to the show tomorrow as the car is not great in ice and snow. We booked a van at Enterprise. We were running a tad late but Enterprise said no problem we will wait for you. Well Nathan arrived and they were closed. So he had to cab it home. No van for tomorrow but he must go as all our equipment is there. They say 30cm of snow and ice. We are hoping he is okay for the drive.

We have also had 2 matted dogs that came in the door. We had a lunch we were invited to but had no car. We also have people arriving late as planes are late. But we are off to Ronnie's house (instead of lunch) with a few pups and maybe we will forget the day after our pickups.

I am worried about Nathan driving the dogs but he must go.

My hand is VERY VERY swollen. Shh but Nathan can't demat but he tried. I brushed all dogs plus did teeth.

The dogs played their hearts out. They are all getting soaked as its that wet almost too warm so lets have rain that turns into snowballs on them and ices over. Joy - not.

I have a feeling I will be drying dogs at bedtime.

Wins Today

Adele won Best of Winners and is now a champion. Inula won a group 3 and Buddy won best puppy in Breed. It made all the work worth it. I spent so much time trying to close all the splitties in Adele's hair brought on by her mad play with Inula that I thought it would be a miracle if she got her last point. Two and a half hours last night. My hand is killing me and I mean killing me.

We just got a matted dog come and well Nathan is doing it. I say it as I am not telling who it is but oh boy. Now Nathan will 'get' what it takes to demat. Poor guy.

Will add photos taken today in a bit or maybe tomorrow. I groomed everyone today, got up at 545am and arrived downstairs at 6am all for this show. I know you are looking forward to the photos but maybe it can wait till my hand doesn't pain me each time I type? Even with that, we had a great day at the show.

The dogs here slept all over me and had a blast playing and well I will put up on photo as we had a game we did today.

We run down the paths and then up the paths. Maddie and Jesse were watching and each time they ran by Maddie would jump out to catch anyone that she could and Jesse would bark. I should have had a video but sometimes Brewer won, other times Cooper won, other times Kona won and so did the Scruffster and although I would like to say Pepper won, she would play this game of cutting off the head of the pack and therefore appear as if she ran the entire way. Poor Dennis is exhausted.

I will leave you with that thought. Nathan is home. I need rest and so does he.

Walking down memory lane with Tre!

I want to say thank you to Gerda for sharing him and his siblings (housemates) with us this past holiday season. As she is so far away from us it really meant a lot. Good luck with the agilty and just have fun!

Just some memory lane photos of Ms. Laci. Hope you have a memorable birthday. One of the photos was from Ms. Laci visiting us last year. Thank you!

If any of the other littermates want to send me an updated photo, I will post some memory lane photos of them too. If not, I hope you have a really special birthday - all of you. Yes, we had 2 litters a day apart. How did we manage that? heh

Snow Fun 2015

Just a few photos of our snow day. The dogs are truly having a blast. They love, love, love the paths that I created and then Dennis perfected.
