19 Days Old: All Eyes Open Now

This is the gal. She now has her eyes open. She was the 3rd to open her eyes. Here is the gallery.
This boy's eyes are now open. Here is a gallery.  He was the last to open his eyes.

Puppies now have their eyes and ears open. That means they can see and hear but their eyesight is blurry for a couple of days. They look around as if they are fascinated with a glimmer of what the hey is this?

It's going to be fun when they see each other. (the 2 litters)

Jeannie and Adele are very comfortable with each other and their babies.

Here is a gallery of the pups today.

Sherry brought some toys for the puppies to interact with. Thank you! They are going to get introduced to them tomorrow. We will start changing the toys daily so they get exposed to a variety of things. Conditioning begins.

18 Days Old

So did someone else open their eyes? Not yet but one has squinty eyes. You can see this slit but not truly open. I suspect by tomorrow we will have 3 with eyes open perhaps 4. Time will tell.

Here is today's gallery.

If you watch the videos some of us spend a lot of time practicing walking under the rails. Why? It's safe when eyes are closed and you can feel the wall as you do so. In about a week I suspect both litters will be on the same timetable especially with just 3 days apart soon.

Of course when they start eating and going upstairs, it will be as one group.

Two Updates Today

The girl now has her eyes open. Here is her gallery.  I wonder when the other 2 will open their eyes?

We have 2 updates today.

17 Days Old: Updated

Last night this boy opened his eyes. Here is the gallery I took this morning. His colouring is starting to look more and more like his dads. As you can see his nose pigment is just starting to come in.

Today I had to give the Adele pups the Jeannie whelping box as it has a higher railing. Adele's pups were getting stuck under it and crying over and over again. As soon as I gave them the extra height space they crawled right under without a peep. Jeannie pups got another one we had without railings. This is how I started my day. I did it all myself. Nathan stayed with the dogs eating breakfast and I redid the 2 whelping boxes. Dennis is in bed sleeping.

Here is the update:

Puppies have been quiet all day except you hear these tiny squeaks when they wake up letting mom know they are hungry. I wonder who will open their eyes next. I keep looking.

Here is today's gallery.

I also took a video of their late morning feeding while watching the Macy's parade. I took it with my video camera so you get to hear noises and see them upclose and personal.

16 Days Old

Murphy's mom, Sherry brought some stuffies and toys that the pups ADORE. They use them as chin rests and body cuddles. We really needed them as the ones I had were getting ragged so most appreciated. I usually go out to the baby consignment shops or toys r us but haven't had time to. Doesn't this pup look great on this stuffed animal?

When are your eyes going to open little ones? Not to worry. I have had pups open their eyes at 3 weeks. It happens when it happens.

Here is today's gallery.

Pups are getting stuck under the rails at times but they let you know. Will be interesting to see if they get out of their whelping box before Jeannie's does. Then the real laundry begins.

15 Days Old

Still no sign of eyes open. Hmm when will it be? Here is today's gallery. I played with the camera and used a flash and bright light behind to see the differences with and without with the color. The faded ones is due to the playing I did. This one above is without the flash but with natural light.

When eating this crew now all fight for the same milk stations. Open eyes guys. There are more slots.

Short blogs tonight as I have a binge watching of Conviction that I want to do and well I need it. :-) The blogs take me hours each day so every now and then to reduce that time is required. Forgive me.

Two Weeks Old

Can you believe we are now 2 weeks old. No eyes open yet. No slits either so we shall see when they decide to say hello world! Here is today's gallery.

Pups are eating really well. They are back at 3 hours. That is good as I managed to get grooming done between. I am still playing recovery from night shift. Dennis has this duty for another 2 weeks and then he can get back to day shift. I hope they are eating food then or it may be 3 weeks.

All pups are over a pound now.

Adele is eating well and being extra attentive as is Jeannie. They have great moms.

13 Days Old

Pups eyes are not even close to opening yet but at times they are getting active. They get mighty excited now when they smell mom.

Here is today's gallery.

So far we have 2 larger pups and 2 smaller pups. Two are shorter in body and 2 are longer in body. That means nothing yet. You have to check length of body when they get mobile and watch how they grow. None will be small like Saffron. They most likely will be Adele's size. Right now I have to make sure all are eating as 2 of the larger ones would steal all the milk stations if they have their druthers. This always happens. It all changes when they get mobile. Eyes open does wonders to the - no you don't, it's mine experience.

Two of them are over 1 pound and 2 are just a smidge below. I suspect by tonight or tomorrow all will be over 1lb.

What did I find in my night duties? Sometimes they wanted to eat every 2 hours and sometimes they waited till 3 hours. It usually takes 20 minutes for a feeding. Do the math. No one gets much sleep during the night. I did this for 2 nights so Dennis could get accustomed to day shift and we could go to the show. I am dead. If I don't make sense - oh well. hahahaha

I look forward to my bed tonight. When I laid down on the couch minus the pillows so I had room, Adele would stay up with me most of the time. Jeannie snuggled then found the tile in the hallway inviting. The girls will miss me but they will have me all day into the night. I didn't sleep except inbetween unlike Dennis who crawls into bed at 7am till 3ish. So, it is taking a toll. The high price to go to a show but I also got the experience of the night duty - not that I haven't done that before. I have. But boy I want that bed about now.

Tomorrow the pups are 2 weeks old.

12 Days Old

Can you believe they are 12 days old now. They eat, they sleep, they move around a bit. I spend time touching all the pups and they become receptive. When they are eating, eating is a pleasurable experience so when you stroke them at this time it tells them the touch is enjoyable. I look for opportunities to give them positive experiences. There is a method to my madness. heh

Here is today's gallery.

The pups love climbing up on the pillows. They love comfort. By doing this they get those legs stronger.

Sometimes it is nice to have a brother as a pillow. Nothing like snuggles, I say!

I call this a pile Up. Here is the gallery today. Eat, sleep, cuddle with mom and do it again. At this age it seems that is all they do but they too will have eyes open soon and then we wait for crawl outs to decide its time to take away the whelping box. No one in either litter is doing that yet where we had Saffron's Thyme doing that early. heh They all have their own timeline.

As we have Trouble getting picked this blog and the rest are short.
