Adele and Her Pups

The pups are now a full day old. We did get test results partially from Adele and her values are still not great (done right after delivering) but I am seeing improvement. We have her on an antibiotic. Unfortunately antibiotics also give you an upset tummy. We are waiting till late afternoon for another series of tests. I think she is happy and doing better but she needs rest. She manages short naps then she is attending to her babies. She is eating. So positive.

Pups are really lively. They make noises if they want mom. They have either gained minimally or stayed the same. This happens often even when mom us 100% so ... As you will see on the videos she is tired but doing well.

Here's a gallery of them on day 1.

I am still tired so if I don't make sense, forgive me.

Here is a gallery of each pup in the order they were born. I put a placeholder between so you can tell when the puppy photos change from one pup to the next. I also put a description such as Boy First Born on the start of each puppy. Hope that makes sense.

Here are some videos:

1st Two 12 Hours Old: Video Added With Danielle: Plus Tracy's Phone Photos Added

The first 2 are now 12 hours old. Mom's milk is in but not fully yet. We have a loss of weight in the 1st 24 hours but that is expected. I will be pleasently surprised if they have gained by morning. I know they will after the first day as they are active and suckling plus I have Jeannie if all else fails. The last one born was a tad lazy with eating. She was too tired. She is now also eating. So, we are in a good space.

Here are a couple of videos:

5 Beauties

Click on Photo for larger view5 pups, 3 girls 2 boys all brown sables with a couple with white.

I just got home from the vet. Have not eaten. I have to focus on Adele but pups are well. Adele seems to be better too though we still have a site for an iv. We took blood and did a fecal test (extensive $200) one. No oversized. We think she was stressed. We will know more tomorrow. She whelped all naturally. I missed the 1st as she didn't know it was coming. No pretty photos as I was on the floor of the vets whelping with my daughter Tracy keeping me company. It's been a VERY long day. I will play catch up.

Here is what I did manage to get that isn't on the phone. Those will come later.

1st pup a boy white and brown sable 5.5oz born at 6am

2nd pup a girl strip around neck brown sable 5.5oz born at 6:45am

3rd pup a boy brown sable (no markings surfaced yet) 6.0 oz born at 10:17am

4th pup a girl slight white on chest brown sable 5.5oz born at 10:21am

5th pup a girl brown sable no markings surfaced yet brown sable 6oz born at 12:17pm

No News

No news is good news. I have not heard from the vet and do not expect to hear till tomorrow unless she goes into labour. It's hard but we are staying positive. We have seen some positive strides.

Plus the vet knows we will want to know if there are any changes.

Figure an interrupted sleep tonight. Life...

Newest Update

Liver is good.  She is holding down food. Yeah!! Progesterone says close but no pups today. Now she is considering an option to let her try to whelp naturally. She must remain at the vets. When she goes in labor or fetal drops she will call and I will go to the vets.

Pups are active but one is VERY large so she may not be able to  deliver on own. So a c-section may be the way we go even if she fully recovers. This can be caused by an infection or the pups taking up too much room due to the oversized pup. She is leaning towards crowding as the issue being a stress on her body.

She is running another full panel to see what the results are after fluids and food.

Let's see we have had 2 full panel blood tests on a weekend, 1 urinalysis, 3 ultrasounds, 1 xray

The ride is unbelievable. I want a stiff drink but don't dare take one as I need to be able to head to the vets on notice.

Adele at Vets

Nathan has been with Adele at the vets all day. He is now on his way home. I have never not been able to be with our dogs when they are sick. So, this is hard. But Dennis had to sleep and someone had to watch the dogs. Thanks to Dani, our grand daughter for the help.

They did an ultrasound and pups are active but one is very large. She was vomiting and has had an upset tummy for 2 days. I didn't like her gums so I asked Nathan to take the drive in. He hates going alone.

They are hydrating her and we will call in the morning. She will remain at the vets.

We have a puppy going home so if we can pick her up, I will go in and Nathan will remain for the puppy depature. Hopefully he will take photos and videos and juggle. The last one is a joke but that is how it will feel, I imagine.

So, Adele is not in labour and pups are okay but they are trying to settle her stomach and give her needed fluids. They also took tests to make sure she is okay. More tomorrow.

Not Close

Adele's tummy is still not tight and she is eating with gusto. I do not expect to see pups from her till at least Monday. She is experiencing kicking now. She is sucky in bed spooning with me.

She now weighs 14.4 where Jeannie weighs 14.6.

All I can say is please not on election day.

What's Going on With Me?

We are not taking tempereatures. It's too early but will start soon. Besides it irritates mom when you start ttoo early and its unnecessary.

The pups have hair now. The moms are fed frequently to help with growth.

Soon....

Adele's Xrays

Click on photo for larger viewThis is Adele's xray. She is later than Jeannie but we knew that. The vet thinks 1 day later than her calendar. Vets are wrong. Human moms are wrong, Mother nature will tell us. Come Sunday I will start taking Jeannie's temperature and on Tuesday or Wednesday I will start taking Adele's.

When the temperature drops to 98 or high 97s it is usually 12 to 24 hours till pups. As this is not their first litter, it can be quicker. But that isn't always the case. Each birth is unique just like it is with humans.

Pups in both litters are of size. None appear too big. None appear too small. We are good!! As you will see in both sets of xrays, no one is in position. They are just hanging out.

PS: Adele weighs 13.4lbs
