Crazy Night
Its been a long night. The grand daughter is in the hospital - ER 8 hours. Things are not going well. So the beauty of having an ipad in bed is you get messaged.
Good news my back is better. I can't lift or bend over still but I am not in excruciating pain turning over in bed. That was a bit much.
Soon 3 pups go home (sigh) Good adventure for them but I have not had the time desired with them other than washing and prepping them to go. Th back hasn't allowed my usual on the floor fun. Yes, I do that too you just don't see it in the videos.
Rain is coming. We have 3 more baths of pups tonight. I am spent but you know what the dawgs still make all of it worth it and no matter how difficult it gets they make me smile. Not sure what I have done to bring us together - havs and us but thank gad for them even with the grooming.
Cali had felted knots from dogs chewing on her and rolling in the mud and water. I wanted to cry but after much dematting solution she is as good as new. May have to brush her twice a day if she continues these shenanigans. Leti plays just as hard but doesn't roll in the mud and water. I think Cali is going to love swimming. hahahaha But I have a feeling she will go from the pool to any dirt possible. Got to love her spirit. Cooper and Cali make a fine pair as he loves that water mud thing too when here. Makes you laugh and deep down its worth the cleanup to see them having so much fun. It truly is!

Must be in the name.. Spent Thursday night removing same from my Cali's coat...hoping things improve for your grand daughter.
What do you use? I find saturating with Show Season Detangle helped tremendously. See http://www.renspets.com/detangle-spray-gallon.html <-- if you saturate and let it sit you can usually brush/comb out with minimal damage and it can remain in the coat. You can even slicker lightly and not damage so you can break up a knot. I can't wash Cali at this moment with pups going home so she will have to wait till Tuesday. I did comb her out this morning and she didn't have any knots after play. With damaged coat you get mats easily.
You should only use a slicker on the feet or a coated saturated coat lightly with the idea to break up not remove. I didn't see any breakage on Cali's coat when breaking up the felt portions with a slicker after I saturated and let it sit. A firm brush will break up but not on a tight felted knot thus my usage of the slicker. <sigh>
The grand daughter is a continual issue. It seems she has more than Crohns. She has severe allergies, drug induced lupus and something they can't figure out. They feel she has an autoimmune disease but they haven't figured out which yet. At this point she can barely walk across the room as she is so fatigued. They tried tubing her through her nose as she is not keeping food down and she would vomit and aspirate. She had an ER doctor tell her she is doing this on purpose and she must have it. Today she told the doctor she is not doing this and said you must find another solution as this is not working. It isn't. She has vomited daily and aspirated to the point of congestion. The visiting nurse said it shouldn't be happening but her body is rejecting the process. So now steroids and food and we hope. Its not a way to live. She can't go to school. She is barely functioning. She is at her all time worse and I am dearly worried about her. She seems to have received all the negatives in the genes from both sides and then some.
Some ER doctors need to be shaken; what a dumb thing to say. It's so hard when things aren't fully diagnosed and you're not entirely sure what the underlying problems are. I hope they can sort it out soon so that she gets the treatment she needs. Is she at Sick Kids?
No, her specialist used to work out of Sick Kids and now works out of North York. They are talking about operating but she is not in good shape to do so. We will see how it all unfolds.
Keeping your granddaughter and her family in my thoughts & prayers. It is a huge
worry for all of you. It is 2014, the answer must be out there somewhere.
All those lucky forever families are so much closer to life with a Havanese. Good luck to all.
Darlah.. Will have to look at SS detangle product. All I had I the house was the Pangenics grooming spray. Saturated with that and broke it up gently with brush, ,slicker, comb, fingers...it was a long process. They had played hard so Cali was quite content to sit on my lap while I worked it all away. She likes to roll and wiggle outside so it was mostly down one side of her body. Grass must had been a bit wet , I haven't seen it that bad in awhile.. Note to self need to check when she comes in!
Such a worry with your granddaughter. so many advances in medicine and still so much we don't know. Praying that they find the right combination soon. Hugs to all.
Must be so frustrating for everyone, especially Danielle, not to have answers and not to be able to find a way to help. Thinking of all of you and hoping for some improvement soon.
It is very hard as at the moment she has no quality of life and for a just turned teen this is really not fair but life is often not fair. :-(
I use Mat Blaster Plus. My groomer loves it. I have nothing else to compare it to though so not sure how it measures up to the Show Sheen. However, I have no complaints as it seems to do what it's supposed to.
Debi: Show Season for the mats. Never heard of Mat Blaster Plus - who makes it - couldn't find it online.
The can says, "Manufactured exclusively for Ken Alta, Inc".

Ah and All Systems product. You used to use their whitener as well?
I'm so sorry to read about your granddaughter. She is in my prayers. Such a worry.
I used the whitener that you gave me a sample of. Haven't needed any more so haven't purchased any. Likely was a teething issue as I believe you mentioned at the time. Didn't realize there was a relation to this product.
Hope your granddaughter doesn't have Lupis. I've had 2 friends w/ this disease. However, the key is in the diagnosis and once you have that there is a sense of power and healing can begin. I'm sure there will be an answer some time soon. Positive thoughts . . . always!
Darlah I'm so sorry to hear about your granddaughter. Have you ever heard of LDN (low dose naltrexone)? It is a medication safe for kids and covers a variety of autoimmune issues (helped me recover from ulcerative colitis along with a grain-free diet). Problem is that although naltrexone is an old drug, it's use for autoimmune disease is relatively new, and many doctors don't know about it. I had to bring it up with my own GI and when she finally prescribed it was amazed at the results. They have done studies on it with crohns and children. Anyway, worth looking into if you haven't already. I hope they figure it out for her soon, that's no way to spend her childhood it breaks my heart to hear of it :(
Melissa: Thanks... will look into it as nothing else seems to be working.
So sorry to hear your granddaughter is still in emergency. Will keep her and your family in our prayers.
