Rainy Day Off and On

It started out raining, got sunny, got cloudy, got rainy. We made the best of it.

Brewer came to visit, Levon and Trigger are probably sleeping on their trip home. They played and played and played.

Biggie has been hanging out - remember Biggie Alene - Shady's brother?

Mia's family is moving so she was hanging out to avoid the confusion. So much to do when one moves and nerve wracking with movers in and out, packing etc. I hate moving and dogs do well when things are in their place already.

Maxine had a brushout. She's spirting a short summer'do. She's having a blast!

Leo is really like a kid in a candy store. He just is having a blast.

Look who is playing with Mia!

Here's a few more photos taken today. Look for some of Ozzie tomorrow. I wrenched my back so sitting at the computer or taking anymore photos this afternoon is not possible. Hoping tomorrow is better.

Dusty also had her Daniel take her home. We miss her already!

Off to snuggle and lay down with dogs with an ice pak. :-) Catch you tomorrow!

Darlah, Dusty is adorable. Looking at her pictures I wondered how her hair is cut so that it lays backward without being tied up. I am trying to decide if or how to get Mateo's hair cut. What would you call what they asked the groomer for when they have Dusty's hair cut.
Also, I saw Pippin, Mateo's sister in pictures when she was staying at your place a while ago. I thought her hair looked really cute on her. Is her hair scissored or cut with a long blade. The groomer told me that the longest blade they can cut with is 1 1/2 inches on his back and then they would scissor it and scissor his head and his legs longer. I originally thought I would get him scissored to 3 inches on his back, but they told me it would be really expensive since it would take so long to do.

Dusty has a great cut. I love her.

Kona's coat is similar to Dusty's. Valerie from 'Simply the Best' was able to give Kona a great hair cut without shaving him.
She is able to scissor his coat to give him a very natural 'puppy cut' look.
Kona's hair is silky and fine.

Diane: I can ask the show people who out there would know how to scissor cut a havanese - Hamilton? The length is due to her combs and blades she would use. Its harder and more timely to scissor cut. Dusty's hair is simply cut with the thinning shears short on her face. It's cut short in the middle and angled on the sides to lay down. I cut them every time she comes. I do the same with Shoshi but only cause she is an old lady who takes her hairbands out. Once you cut bangs you always have to cut bangs or face the growing out stage. They are simply called bangs. What I would suggest is to take a photo in of a dog you want. If they are using clippers and combs it will be short. Hair does grow. :-)

of course i remember biggie. in fact we wanted biggie (don't tell shady) but nathan said no as he was too dominant for us at the time. i wonder if he turned out that way or mellowed as nora has.

Kathy,
How many inches do you get Kona's coat scissored to. How often do you have to get it done. The place in Hamilton called T.L.C. (Tender Loving Care) where I took Mateo to be groomed, said they could scissor it all, and they gave me an estimated cost and it was way too much for me. I wanted it scissored to 3 inches They also said if I got it all scissored I would have to get it cut more often than if it was clipped. They said an alternative, since I don't want it really short is to cut his back with clippers with a 1 1/2 inch blade, which is the longest blade, and then they would scissor that part a little, and then use the scissors to cut his legs which would be a little longer and also scissor cut his head. It costs more than getting him all clipped, but much less than getting him all scissored. I love Mateo's long hair, but I am afraid of it matting when he blows his coat, since he is almost 8 months old and has a very long thick coat now.
Thanks,
Diane

Some blow their coat - some do not. The reason why a clipped cut is to be cut less often is simply cause its shorter so you can let it grow out and then cut again. if you take off an inch all over to make the ends healthy it may last just as long. But some people are not happy unless they are constantly getting haircuts themselves and they do likewise with the dogs. It's a personal thing. So how long the cut lasts is strictly about how you personally like it or don't like it. A half shave, half scissor is not that much extra work. It's simply leaving a skirt, leaving the legs longer and the head longer. It sounds like you want the hair cut short on top, ears shorter, eye area cut around. If so you must go more often just for the sake of the eyes. The hair grows in, pokes the eyes causes tearing (hurts the eyes) and you are constantly doing that area. I do it for people that insist but its usually for people that visit often and I just trim each time I see. Its indeed a way of getting you to visit more often. Each dogs hair grows at different rates. They also stop growing at a certain length too. Its the same for humans. Think about your own hair. Think about how often you get it cut, why etc - same as your dog except at times you are reducing matting. The only way to deal with a blowing coat stage and not every dog goes through it (Spice never did) is to shave it down and let it grow out. But if you are not getting severe mats at skin level each time you are touching him you are not blowing coat.

Diane: If he has a very thick coat they can EASILY thin him out making grooming easier, retaining length etc. That is another option. I thin Shoshi, Truffie and Fiona's hair out. Kona has fine, silky hair. You can't thin his coat out.

I will try to get a better photo of her. Dennis was taking photos and when that happens some come out blurry even when he thinks he captured the best shot. He is trying and I can't click - sorry. I will try to get Nathan to click tomorrow.
