Very Short Blog Today

Just have a few photos to share as we had the vets. Everyone is playing but I don't have everyone in these photos. I had the camera at the vets so Dennis didn't click but he told me what he experienced. He told me he had them all running up and down the walkways like crazy banshees. Since back we had the dogs running yet again. I had a missing stick in the camera. It happens.

Nathan gets frustrated with his request for me to click this and the camera is either in the house or missing a stick. When you are busy it happens. It's called LIFE! I am NOT superhuman.

So, I have Brie but not Colby even though he is playing. I have Pepper but not Scruffy even though the Scruffster is playing. With no vet, I vow to do better tomorrow.

Pepper LOVES Inula. Scruffy has not played with her yet. He has so far preferred Adele and Leti. Maybe he finds Inula too in your face? She can be as she is sewing her oats getting comfie but the adults are telling her what the rules are. They are not hard nosed about it. They just correct her as a mom would. She listens but tries things out. This is normal when you are new.

Last night when we watched a show - a comedian Nathan really likes - forget his name (he wasn't that funny but Nathan thought he was), Scruffy was snuggled up against Adele and her with him. Then he climbed up on my lap as I was in the recliner and Adele climbed up too then of course Pepper said me too and Scruffy looked at her to say go play. This is my space and she did. It wasn't in a negative way. He just wanted his time. I am finding the Scruffy more assertive and for such a laid back guy that is a good thing as he is never not nice about it. He just holds his ground these days when he wants  something and my lap and Adele was it. hahaha

But as you can see Pepper is running, playing and having fun! She is simply learning to respect Scruffy's wishes.

More tomorrow.

Glad to know they are playing. I can see why Scruffy wouldn't like the "in your face" part initially - takes him time to warm up to that but Pepper is an in your face gal herself so I can see why she loves Inula!

Pepper is usually good at respecting Scruffy's wishes when he is serious about it. He doesn't like his down time/sleeping space invaded, he's very particular about that. Rest of the time, he humours her better :)

Give them hugs and kisses from us!

Just gave them a hug and kiss and told them it was from Mommy and Daddy. This was nothing serious. I just watch the interaction closely and it is actually rather nice that Scruffy says I don't think so and she LISTENS. They adore each other but sometimes its great to say no, my time and the other one understands - in humans too. :-) I rather like that she is listening. She is maturing. Scruffy even kisses Adele but all the guys do. It's a strange thing she has going on. Scruffy still makes sure Pepper is okay so they are connected by the hip but enjoying their me time too. That's important too. I am finding Brie and Colby also have managed individual time as well. Colby tends to love hunting and looking for things with Truffie. It's a riot. They were after a toad or a frog today. Never touched it but chased it under the plants. Didn't even realized we had one in the yard.

i think i missed something...who is inula? is it a new puppy at talemaker or is she visiting?? just trying to keep tabs so i can update nora and shady :)

She is a new puppy - a TT. Since the goldens are gone we noticed that the havanese until exposed were unsettled with the big dogs. This way before they depart they can see that there are larger dogs in the world and not scary. Took us a long time after the goldens and TTs are indeed more challenging. We need to do our work early on before she grows. hahahaha

i understand, hope you won't be getting a live in in a wheelchair or a ttc bus any time soon to help in the conditioning! but what is a tt? is it a terrior?

September 13, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteralene

We actually used to take our dogs up to a handling class where the lady was in a wheelchair. It was great conditioning but no we won't be taking humans in to help condition. :-) Exposures are a good thing. The more you do the less likely they are likely to react after repeated exposures. We noticed when the goldens left us (both passed on) that the dogs started reacting to bigger dogs. Sure owners can do that themselves but I think it helps give them a good start if we begin the process. TTs are tibetan terriers. Although they carry the name of a terrier they are not a terrier. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibetan_Terrier - She is a more in your face dog but knows when to back off if they tell her to. Meaning she wants to play and wants to insist on it but when another says NO she backs off and comes back more gentle - typical puppy stuff. Adele rolls her over to correct her.

Brie, Colby, Pepper could care less and Scruffy was caught playing with her today. She really is a nice pup. I do believe given time that even our older pups that you all own will benefit from the exposure as she is larger but knows enough to compensate already. She doesn't like when someone doesn't want to play so she adjusts herself so they do. As in Scruffy and Colby she became less in your face and Scruffy and Colby then said okay my terms I am game. So good for Inula, good for Scruffy and Colby. Today for a couple of hours Bella, Bailey Zoe and Molly are here. Zoe and Molly could care less. Bailey not so - Bella is still getting exposed and I suspect by the time they leave she will realize she's not so bad. It is actually working out better than I thought and I find when you do this from pups that it helps both. Inula will benefit and any dogs she is exposed to will.

my dogs will benefit too when they visit. they hate large dogs and bark and growl and even snap insanely to the point that they have to wear citronella collars when we go out. that completely keeps them calm and they can even greet and sniff big dogs but the moment the collar is off they are back to barking. you'd think they'd learn to stay calm from repeated calm interactions but they don't. maybe i should bring their collars next month when they board!

September 13, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteralene

They do not need their collars here - honest. I will correct, expose and get them on track as much as time allows - meaning due to the time-frame you give me with them staying here. Classes and exposures do help.

Glad to see Scruffy getting involved.
What are these collars? I wonder if I should get one for Pepper for our neighbourhood walks until she is more comfortable?

September 13, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLori

It's a citronella collar that stops them from barking. It does work.
