Wellies Plus More

Supposed to be easier to get on for the smaller set. Check out this video of Christine and Clarity getting those wellie boots on.

Not much running as it is icy but they are running in the house. As I was washing dogs, Dennis only got photos of the pups. Sorry about that. :-(

This and the Adele blog will have to get you by. See what happens when you don't take your own photos? hahaha

Well done Christine. Glad those work for Clarity. Bottom line, I think boots are important if we walk our dogs on city streets or even here in Huntsville, where all streets and sidewalks are covered with sand. Comfort is important and makes walks so much more enjoyable, for both human and canine.

I don't use boots at all. I simply rinse feet at home or wipe off as we go. I do use bag balm on feet. I also don't use jackets either. :-) It's a personal thing but good to know there are more than one choice. It's why I placed it up. This way each of you can decide which works best for YOU.

We find boots are important when we go for a long walk, which we like to do. If not, odds are that Coop's paws would get cold and we would need to cut our walk short.....it's a balancing act for us humans and our dog. We don't use coats unless it is a very cold day. Good that options are there but I believe that boots are good for long walks in cold weather, not so much for dirt but to keep paws warm.

Christine thank you! I was planning to buy boots for Murphy tomorrow and you gave so much helpful info.

I'm with Anne. The snow gets between Ripley's toes and melts but walking in the cold makes it re freeze so the walk is not only cut short, it turns into a "carry" as Ripley starts to hop and stumble. I use the balloons. So light he doesn't even seem to know they are on and with a little practice, super easy to use. There is also a really great tool if you still find them hard to get on. Check out the video at pawsjaws.com. Great tool!

Clarity and I walk A LOT. We usually drive to a park to avoid hot or salty sidewalks. Even though Clarity goes to an off leash with a pack during the week and I have a fenced backyard, we enjoy our evening walks together. The issue is in the winter when it gets dark so early and the parks aren't lit. I only use a doggy coat to keep her dry or if it's very cold out ... She doesn't like to be too warm.

Anne, I ended up with the Wellies because the pet store was out of muttluks and the owner highly recommended these. I was 100% sold when it only took seconds to put one on the first time!
... I could never get the hang of the balloons and I'm going to have 8 paws to contend with again next winter. :)

I think my dogs are used to it. I used to dress them all in coats. I tried the boots - even the ones at dog shows for rain. We now believe in nakedness. ROFL

Not against them. :-) I may even put some sweaters on the 2 pups just for fun and take photos.

I admire those of you that do it.

I could never get a pair of boots on Dallas! Not even a coat. She also prefers "au natural". Very impressed with Clarity. Well done Christine.

Christine that video was great. I have tried different boots but they all were so difficult to manage. My colleague uses balloons and I might try it. Rusty has a really cozy down type coat that is so easy to put on but when Rusty sees us get the coat he runs up the stairs no matter how bad he wants to go out. So we have decided that we won't make him put it on unless it is very cold. I worry about the salt on the sidewalks but I know Rusty will not be cooperative. Last year we washed his feet after a walk and our walks are not very long. Thanks for all the tips.

Darlah I saw the cutest little havanese dog in a shopping mall on highway 7. The pup was 4 months old. I asked if it was a Talemaker pup and she said no but that she has been on the Talemaker website recently. So you are famous beyond the Talemaker families.

Darlah, we just got some bag balm, how do you use it? I haven't been able to find any good instructions about it online.

Thanks!

Darlah, would be fun to see the pups all decked out for Winter!

Hmm, the muttluks and wellies both look great! Thx 4 the videos. Personally, I didn't like the balm. I was told it wouldn't leave marks on the floor, but the balm really messed up my hardwood. Plus, it didn't prevent them from getting cold, wet & dirty.

We drive to local parks as well. Don't need to be concerned in summer w/ pesticides, but still need to wash the feet. I like the idea of our dogs being warm and dry w/ clean as a bonus! :-)

I am going to get the Wellies Christine, you have sold me. Thanks so much for the video, you could market them. We have a Global just around the corner. Large for Clarity, wonder what size for Radar hmmmm! Although, Radar hasn't been for a walk yet, just on our deck and in my arms for walks. This darned rabies scare with Raccoons is worrying me. When he has his rabies shot, then his feet will touch the ground. I know, I'm an overprotective Mum.

Christine I got the large Wellies for Murphy at Global. Thanks again! I was getting desperate as I live midtown and there's salt. Plus tomorrow is going to be really cold. Haven't tried them on her yet.

I hope they work for those who buy them. Some dogs won't ever get used to boots. For me, I wanted to protect her paws from the salt and ice balls between the toes, and they had to be easy to get on. They'll also keep paws dry and clean, not sure how much they'll protect from extreme cold. I actually want to know when her paws are getting cold as this is a clear sign to me that it's time to go inside.
