Finally a Dusting

We finally got a dusting of snow. The dogs love it.

I also got to clean up Abigail. You will see her in the gallery. She looks better. :-0

It's quieter here after the mad rush of the Christmas Break.

Elvis was exceptionally pleased with the snow. The pups were too. I miss Risa's snow angels. Oh well. It's funny how moments remind you of beings.

Roxie is looking quite blah despite having a bath yesterday and looking gorgeous. It is amazing what a day does. Truffie had a bath 5 days ago and looks like someone dragged him through the wringer even though I have been combing him out. I love these havanese. 2 minutes if you are lucky they may look stunning then they have fun. I think I prefer the fun!

Darlah, your dogs look stunning even when they’ve had fun, my one Hav is a complete mess. She got wet, I dried and combed, she got wet again and full of garden bits which she tried pulling out herself and now she’s knotted up good style. It’s taken a few hours to get two legs knot free. Following on from the legs she’s done the back squirms on a sheep skin rug and knotted her back. I despair. She knows exactly what she is doing and runs like heck when I try to pick her up to comb. I’m exhausted with one, you are a marvel with so many.

Su: Thnx but they get mighty messy. They are wonderful even in that state.

What grooming spray are you using?

Darlah I love the messy look. They look sexy when their hair falls in front of their eyes. Although not to much hair because I love their eyes. Rusty used to like being brushed much more than now. I guess they go through phases. Then again he looks amazing when he comes home from the Spa!

Darlah, I use Show Season detangle or precious drop coat which I think is a Chris Christiansen product.
I did have a conditioner that was good diluted especially for getting mats out it was pale green in color and quite thick, smelt lovely and was all natural ingredients but I can’t recall it’s name, it was from a dog show, but that’s all I remember.
Is there anything better I could use? Su

Su:

The green one was Pek, I believe. It's an excellent product. For detangling, I like Tropiclean detangler that is available in many stores. It's cheap and it works really well but as a regular daily grooming spray I still love OMG. If the coat is clean, she should not be knotting from rubbing on a rug. Perhaps some tangles but not knotting. When I have pups, I usually go 3 or 4 weeks to wash my dogs, I do them here and there to play catch up. They don't have knots but I usually like to wash every 2 to 3 weeks. I find using shampoo that leaves the hair without an oily coating gets the coat to last the longest without knotting. Of course you still have to comb but its easier care without coating. I use a rinse from Natures Specialties, not a conditioner on my dogs during the timefrane I need to extend their baths. Then I use a good quality, non heavy conditioner when I can wash more frequently. Each coat is different though. Each has its own needs. One of the best shampoos for leaving the coat the cleanest for the longest time is Natures Specialty Coconut Clean. Couple this with Nature's SpecialtyOatmeal Creme Rinse andf it is the combo I have found lasts the longest on most coats.

Thanx Darlah.
I try not to Bath Longer than six weekly intervals.
Her coat is a bit like a rough collie or a sheep’s if I don’t wash it enough.
It also seems to be a bit cottony. It’s the undercoat that gets knotted but it is usually easy to comb through with patience and the end of the comb to pick through. The knots are funny little fluffy bits stuck to the long hairs.
I’ve just been watching your grooming 101 video and will try harder to Bath more frequently using your technique.
I think her coat suffers from all the rubbing and roughing up by friends and neighbors when they fuss her especially if they are gardening when she stops for a fuss, I guess oil from hands doesn’t help in keeping her clean.
I will try Tropiclean, can you get OMG in pet stores?
Thanx again
Su
