Diane, his owner asked me to put up a puppy and adult photo of Mateo.
I used to call him Loverboy.

Mateo looks every bit the Loverboy! Diane, he's adorable.
Thx for posting Darlah!
Diane. Who are his parents? Do I see Truffle in his face?
BTW-his haircut in 2nd photo looks very similar to Laci's đ
PS-Is there another Mateo?
Thanks Debi. He is very gentle and loving, but still likes to play and go for walks.
I feel bad now for asking Darlah to post, since I know how extremely busy she is.
His parents are Abigail and Truffie.
Before I got him, I thought I was going to get a girl, so I had a girlâs name picked out.
When I got the email from Nathan saying I was getting Mateo, I looked for a boyâs name right away.
I queried popular baby boyâs names from Cuba, since that is where Havanese originated from.
I found the name Mateo which I liked. It means âA Gift from Godâ.
Although I am not that religious, I felt he was a gift from God, and that name was the right one for him.
I want to get his hair cut a little longer next time.
They are all precious.
So lucky to have a Talemaker puppy.đ
Oh my, I have this new-ish Amazon tablet and it auto-corrects me and it's always wrong! Frustrating.
Anyway, Diane I found the longest blade was too short, so we do a scissor cut, but still keep it short enough to maintain. Laci seems to need gromming every 5 wks or the mats come daily. I find a small knot will grow overnight and if left will grow each day so have to keep on top of it.
There aren't many that do scissor cutting and if you go to large places like PetSmart no one does scissor cutting - at least that's what they told me. Seems to becoming a lost art.
Luckily, my young groomer takes great pride in her art and loves to scissor cut.
Hope you find someone you like. It takes time - I always give 3 tries. Even w/ groomers I really like, it usually takesd 3 groomings to get on the same page.
Mateo is a doll. He really is very much related to both Laci and Ellie. The reason I asked if there is another Mateo is that while he was also a black and white dog, I think his owner showed him. Maybe it was a name similar to Mateo. Maybe Darlah can clarify. Just wondered.
Muntuno is the dog that was shown. Just so you know I have a 2" clipper comb so they do have combs that size. I have a clipper blade 1-3/4" so almost 2" without a comb. Laube makes combs longer but they are junk. I scissor cut Kona's hair the last haircut and when you scissor cut properly it looks very natural like it grew that way. Kona's hair is so silky and fine that if you used a clipper you would see the lines. the time saved on a clipper would be taken up by scissor finishing. LOL
Debi, You said before that you could see Truffie in Mateoâs face. Darlah has said before that she thinks he looks more like Abigail in the face, with a longer face and nose. Just like children though, everybody sees different things.
Mateo is five years old now. He was from Abigailâs last litter. There were four puppies in the litter Max, Mateo, Pippin and Bella.
I wouldnât go to a chain place like Petsmart, etc. to get him cut.
I like the private groomers best. I have gone to Mateoâs groomer for 5 years.
I like that every time I go, she checks with me to see if there is anything she can do differently.
She broke her wrist before Christmas and it is taking a long time to heal, so I had to go to a different groomer the last time. I liked her too.
Since my regular groomer canât use her wrist, she is bringing in her groomer friends to do the grooming, when they have extra time, but I like to pick out who I will go to.
I am going to show the picture of Laci that you posted here to my groomer the next time Mateo gets his hair cut, and ask if she can do something similar, if that is alright with you.
Did you see Glenn Close on the View today. She brought her dog Pip who is a Havanese on the show. Apparently he has his own very popular Twitter account.
Thanks Darlah for the information about the clipper combs and blades that are available. Good to know.
Mateo is very handsome, both puppy and older dog. We are all very, very lucky to have Talemaker Havanese and I have two đđ
Diane, thank you for telling me about Glenn Close's dog being a Havanese. I don't watch tv per se, but have it on and heard about her dog and so ran in only to see her dog and googled her to find out the breed and didn't learn anything. Now I know. It's the face! There is no other like it! :-)
I know what you mean about groomers and having to change - - - Kristy recently had a baby and so why I lost touch as she left the salon and they didn't let her take records. But I found her! Since dogs can't talk, it's really important and difficult to find someone that you can totally trust as you want them safe and happy.
Diane, of course you can take the pic in of Laci. We're honoured! I've done that w/ dogs I see on this site. I always loved Mia"s crown cut and ran that off to show groomer..
Darlah, thx for the info in the blade length. I have some questions now and will contact you on your personal email. No rush for an answer.
In ending, Muntuno is indeed the dog I was thinking about. Thanks for clearing that mystery up.
Diane I remember Mateo/Lovely. I think you got him around the same time that I got my Katie. He was and is adorable!
Ruth and Katie
Thanks Angela and Ruth. We all love our babies!đ„°
I love the updates. We should do this before/after with all of the dogs! (When Darlah has some time, of course!)
He really looks like Abigail. It is right that we each see something different but Truffie's muzzle is smaller and more delicate.
Shannon: See me in April. laughing loudly. I just finished grooming. I started at 8am. Thanks to Sherry I had a tuna fish sandwich which she brought when she dropped Murphy off. I wouldn't have been able to eat anything.
Glad you all love your babies. I love them too. :-) Yes, I love yours even when I don't get to see them. LOL
Debi:
No problem! Not all realize the lengths that are now available.
Now to start blogging. Answering as galleries are building.
I think Truffie has very distinctive eyes. Not sure what it is about them. I really see Truffie's eyes in Mateo's puppy picture, but yes, I can see Ms Abs in this more recent one. Mateo does look a lot like a black and white version of Laci and Laci looks like her Mom. I have never seen any of Phantom in Laci.
Same scenario w/ our Ellie. I used to see her Dad, Truffie, but now she looks just like her Auntie Laci.
Darlah you are right, when you trimmed Kona it looked so natural just like he looked as a puppy.
Kathy, I wished we lived closer so Darlah could cut Mateo like that! It sounds so cute.
