2 Updates Today

Well, it is Boxing Day. Some I hear are out shopping - curbside. We didn't even look - not even on Amazon.

Instead it's a day of snowballs sticking on dogs. Let me give you the real skinny on this. It only happens when it is wet snow. It never happens when it is powdery snow. It happens on dogs with long and almost shaved down dogs - seriously. If anything sometimes it is worse on short hair as it holds the snowballs up against the skin.

Interesting thing to note, if you laid in the snow and dragged and rolled in it, you not only would be soaked but you would also get snow stuck to your hair so don't do it. LOL

You can use a slicker to get rid of it. DO NOT USE IT NORMALLY as it breaks coat without coating and snowballs are coating. Breaking coat creates MATS.

Spraying that slicker with grooming spray makes it slippery and will minimize any damage to it. If you use the tub rinse version of getting rid of them be aware you MUST comb out and either a warm towel fresh out of the dryer and exchange it for another works for them to lay on and soak up most of the moisture. You can also blow dry them. Better yet if you can find a FULL legged 4 legged snow suit, well only the feet will get wet and snowballed.

You can also pray that it gets colder as cold snow ices up and well that doesn't stick to their coats.

Am I frustrating you? I have dogs that love running through the snow and poor Rebel had snowballs too. Yes, she has short hair and its thin as a puppy's hair usually is. That is okay. She survived but she was lifting her paws. That is a sign they must come indoors. Be sure to check between the pads for snowballs.

It's a lovely day out. I want to take a nap but Nathan is. Ollie has arrived till Monday. Watching videos of him that Rochelle sent - well he adores the snow. We are going to have fun with him!

Bailey has departed and she had the time of her life. I do think this covid has restricted the dog's social needs and I worry when they are suddenly thrown into socializing overdrive. I am glad that some come as they will have that edge of interacting before we are done. Now that dog stores are closed, they don't even have that. :-( We are also told that many dog training places are also closed.

We are still open for visits. The dogs once they get reacquainted again are showing signs of being at Dog Disneyland. I guess they are feeling it too.

Oh yes. Patches and Radar’s favourite neighbours don’t want to touch them like they used to. They are afraid the dogs might be carrying COVID-19. Patches gets very upset when one of her ‘people’ ignores her. ☹️

Poor Patches and Radar, that shouldn't be happening to you, they are misinformed, they can always wear gloves to pat you, it's cold enough! I'd love you to pieces!
Funny, I've tried most of those methods, I have lots of towels that I'm constantly exchanging to dry them off. Next thing a hand dryer to speed things up, have done the tub thing if I suspect dirt and salt. I do have semi legged snow suits for them, stops them from getting wind chill and some snowballs. New word to teach them "snowballs".
Nathan would have loved to see Pixie romp around the deep snow backyard in her hot pink snowsuit like a rabbit, she loves the snow.
We have lots of rabbits and I think a coyote or fox after them, we saw the tracks this am, but we are always with our dogs, never out of our sight.

Angela: It's so unfair. It is so important that they get dog and human interaction other than just us. it is why we would take them to the pet store but that is not allowed any longer mask or no mask. It is strange that feeding your pet is no longer an essential service. the dogs here do get dog interaction from those visiting

Nathan and I decided that after covid is done and weather is warm, we are going to have to keep on inviting dogs and their humans. It will be a season to celebrate life!

Dorothy, I know someone who had her dog snatched and killed by a wild animal just a few feet away from her while she watched in horror. When there is prey involved, foxes and coyote lose their fear of people ! Do be careful !!!

I am also shocked at people afraid that dogs carry COVID. We have neighbours that won’t pet Rusty talk to him at a distance. Luna loves the snow. She jumps like a rabbit and sticks her whole face right in the snow. Guess what. I have a pink snowsuit too😊

With regard to coyotes we had a scare yesterday. I took Luna out for the first time in the front of the house. I made the mistake of taking both Rusty and Luna together. Luna got a little excited and ad it got a little difficult so we went in. . About an hour later I was told that a huge coyote walked down my street in the middle of the road. Our neighbour called to warn us. It really shook me up. Luna Would have been an appetizer for the coyote. There have been many sightings near us and in the summer the came down our street as well. We are near a little park. Be careful everyone. They appear to be everywhere. .

We live just up the street from the Mimico Creek in Toronto. We've also had deer, wild turkeys, opossums, foxes on our street. This summer we were particularly careful with Pixie since there were a pair of hawks with babies and Pixie is small enough to be picked up. Leo's a much bigger doggie.
