A Breath

Dogs slept last night. Me, not so much but that was okay. Tonight we may all sleep as Nathan has the breathing tube out just a bit ago and sat up on the side of his bed. They taught him how to roll. He has not walked yet but depending on how he is doing they may try. HUGE improvement from last night.

Here is today's gallery.

I am breathing now.... Thank you everyone for caring. What a ride this has been.

What a relief! He's awake and alert, excellent, one step at a time. Nathan, please listen to what they ask of you in the icu/setdown, they have the knowledge and experience. Darlah, your daughter in law and Sylvia can assist you alot in what is happening, he is still recent post op and must take care.
It's distressing that you can't be with him, but please have faith, they are doing their very best for him.
Sending my deepest healing prayers to him, the pain will be there but will recede with time, it will get better.

Great news! One day at a time and the next thing you know he'll be rolling around on the floor in a doggie pile. Now make yourself a good stiff drink and try to relax.....That's Kitty's advice. LOL

Tonight I will have that drink. Yesterday I figure not as I needed to be alert if something side lined. He remains in ICU today. They have beds literally in the hall waiting for a bed to open up but no beds available in the cardio wing so he remains. He has sat in a chair 3 times and had a very mini walk. He is in he says a tremendous amount of pain but they are trying to manage that. Progress!!! Like he said - I am ALIVE!

I'm so very happy to see this latest news. It's been a very scary time, for sure, but sounds like all is heading in the right direction now. It's heartwarming to see all the people who are so very concerned, sending best wishes and prayers. You folks deserve it. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers constantly. Sending you both huge hugs!

On your latest update: the pain is to be expected but as we all know that will ease over time. I really feel for Nathan but it is better the pain than the alternative if he were not to have the surgery. Time heals all wounds and it will this time as well. Yes, Darlah, give yourself a break, have a drink tonight and relax. He will be home soon and before you know it he will be running around the house singing "puppy, puppy, puppy". Much caring and thinking of you constantly. ❀️

January 24, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterAngela, Patches, and Radar

Excellent news again save for his pain. Staying in Cardio stepdown/icu might not be a bad idea, more personal care. Day 2 post surgery and progressing wellπŸ‘

That's great news! Sitting up 3x and 1 mini walk is great news for sure 1 day post-op. Hope the pain becomes well managed. Such a big sigh of relief to come to this point! Hopefully you can have a bit of sleep this evening. Emmy sends puppy kisses!

He had two grafts well 3 - 1 from his arm and 2 from his leg. The 2nd was the leg from the 2nd surgery. He was bleeding not in the bypass area but elsewhere so they repaired that area as well. This was due to blood thinners. He is still in ICU but they finally got his chest tube out. He has walked. He has sat in a chair. No pee or the other yet so they gave him something. He did eat jello and broth. Tonight he may have a cardio/diabetes meal. Welcome to the rest of his life though his surgeon said you should cheat minimally once a week or you will never maintain that diet. A minimal amount of salt when you drink a great deal and sugar will not kill you. The lack of will not extend your life. So the advice is cheat minimally and don't be miserable. You have to live. Due to covid I can't go into icu but he has sent me photos of all his scars. He does not last long but that's ok. Too sore still to talk. Hopefully tomorrow. They told him no lifting over 5lb. 6 to 8 weeks for recovery but each week he will get better.
