Wet Snowballs Yikes

Here is Rebel a bloody mess due to the wet snow. I was grooming today and after the 3rd time of Dennis removing snowballs, he says they can go on the pads. They are NOT going out anymore. After all day of it, he had it. Now he knows what I go through. Not sure why Nathan wasn't helping but Dennis was overwhelmed. When I say snowballs, they were packed on them so they couldn't move. Fool me once, fool me twice but 3 times? Even dogs with short hair had them. I was nonstop grooming dogs departing so maybe I was lucky? Even daisy with mighty short hair had snow balls all over. Can summer arrive?

Here is the gallery.

Happy Hannukah to those that celebrate.

Well, as you can see, the dogs really had fun but at Dennis expense. Anything for the dogs. I am hoping it dips to really cold so no more snowballs before bed. I think Shlomo doubled his weight with snowballs - Rebel too. Those that play pay in this weather.

Enough of this complaint snowball craziness. Opus, Diamind, Vivi, Thunder, Logan, Panda and Bailey departs today. Harlow arrived today. Shlomo arrived today.

Tomorrow Pingo departs and you don't want to know about his hair. We will get him gorgeous if its snowball tomorrow and he will play indoors.

We also had a very busy day as you will learn in the puppy blogs.

PS: Teddy the rescue did not have snow stick to him. He played and I do not know why. He must have magical hair. LOL

No cold weather this week, lots more snowballs to come.
Had mine out 3x already, the snowballs on Leo's feet were so big he couldn't walk, so funny and his expression "what's happening" jumping/hopping didn't work either, poor guy. But they both love playing in the snow, and now they can make paths through the leftover stalks of the perennial beds, peek-a-boo!

Pepper has turned into an absolute snow puff...she begs us to let her outside in the yard and we're experimenting with all the combs and brushes at home to get it off her...the snowballs are like solid ice pellets but she's been nibbling on them like a snack lol We are seriously considering putting her in a full-on snowsuit so she can enjoy outside and we don't go crazy this winter :p If you ever have time to do a snow combing video tutorial we would love it :p

So much fun for the dogs to play in the snow, but so much extra work for you all. It will not go unnoticed. Pingo’s hair is a never ending battle haha, I wish you the best of luck! Do what needs to be done lol. He had some bad knots when he arrived, and now with the weather and the nonstop play I can only imagine the task ahead of you! We cannot wait to see him!

If you only have one or two dogs, I found the best way to get rid of snowballs is a one piece snowsuit that I made myself from ripstop nylon. The alternative is to have a tub of warm water and plop them in. The snow melts fast. Mind you I am in Winnipeg an it is usually very cold so only a few snowball days.

I had forgotten about the snowball pellet problem until tuning into the blogs. We don’t have any issues b/c we have no grass in our backyard. A landscape of patio stones, interlock, etc., makes it easy to shovel when needed. We didn’t get much snow in Pickering and much of it melted due to the stones. We love it. But when we do get a lot and Laci gets those annoying pellets, we don’t struggle. Like Marilyn said, into the tub for a hose down is so much easier.

Its easier if you have 1 or 2 dogs. I am so glad you found something that works for you. If it is just before bed, I dry them otherwise we will be sleeping in wet sheets. LOL I do find rinsing easier but if I need to dry, two dryers on 2 dogs at a time and a rake. It is a process with multiples. Pingo, who just departed had so many he couldn't walk and if you didn't dry he would have matted as it was that kind of snow. Corey and Chiclet have NO hair barely and they had snowballs attached. Interesting enough Katie's hair seems to repel them.

Bonus Dennis got to do most and for the 1st time he woke up and said is it cold enough for no snowballs? The joke was he didn't truly realize till I was too busy to do it.

Marilyn: I am glad you have a solution. One year I put snowsuits on dogs and by the time I got the last one on, they were coming back in.

Next wet snow, I will have Nathan do a video while I eliminate snowballs. I am sure next storm Dennis will be busy. LOL

Dorothy: ouch brrr. Dennis walked out to the garage in barefeet this morning and went oh my how can dogs stand that.
