Havanese: Rainy Day Play

Sometimes when it is cold and rainy or damp and rainy, well you have to think of games inside.

Treasure's fave toy is this cat toy. It''s cheap and keeps them busy trying to get the toy out of the ring.

Treasure doesn't realize it's impossible to get out but oh she does try.

She pounces on it making all sorts of funny noises.

It's great fun to watch. It's cheap and the best toys are those that get your Havanese using their brain and body - don't you think?

Sebastian Visit is Full of Fun

Sebastian is here visiting and we are in heaven. Nathan caught him snuggling with me. He's been playing up a storm and I mean non-stop. Me thinks he is rather fond of his sister, Sassy. He's such a cutie. It's great to have him here as they are making us laugh. So far, Katsuro was rolling around in the big bed with him, Shoshi was doing run-like-hell, Risa's been watching and mommy Wasabi has been correcting. hehehehe

You know that tunnel we have, Sebastian just jumped in mid air on top while Sassy was inside and squished it on her. No one got hurt. Sassy jumped out and I swear she was laughing about it. Where was the video camera then? This all happened while I was typing.

We have had a couple of - 'who is boss' episodes where one squeaks from rough-housing but then Wasabi straightens them out. It's way funny and great timing for us as we needed an infusion of fun. Thanks, Maryanne and Mark. More later as I am positive this duo will keep us on our toes and to me - that's quite nice!

Here Sebastian is taking a time out so he can get rejuvenated. It lasted 10 minutes and they were both back at it - in and out of tunnels, and Sebastian's home safe place is that house that Maryanne brought. Where did you get it?

Tomorrow I will get more video. I got a bit but I am way too busy watching. Something about a camera on your face - well it takes away from the experience - heh but I promise you lots of moments - no worry. Today - well today is just enjoy without worrying about capturing it all.

PS: Sebastians already checked out the bed and has staked his claim. When he calms down, I will clean up his feet from all that run-like-hell through the grass out back.

More later...off to watch the pair.

COMMENTS:
Mark and Maryanne has left a new comment on your post "Sebastian Visit is Full of Fun": Sebastian's bed came from SuperPet. It's actually a cat bed, but I didn't tell Sebastian that! He'll be sad when he's too big to fit through the holes in it. Posted by Mark and Maryanne to Wasabi's Havanese Adventures at January 13, 2008 9:18 PM

Sassy: Which One?

Sassy found that plastic empty bottle fun - a cheap toy till it gets flattened and you throw it out to start again. It makes tons of noise and the Havanese adore it.

She was inbetween this stick that makes a tweety toy that's laying in the bed (it's a cat toy that used to have cloth hanging off of it) and that bottle and she's trying to figure out which one.

Sebastian's New Family

It was 8 degrees (Celsius) today. It rained off an on for most of it. The snow has been melting so much that steam was rising from the ground. The dogs came in from playing in the backyard soaked to the skin. Kat couldn’t care less. He’d have happily stayed out all day.

Now the temperature has dropped dramatically and the wind is howling outside. The temperature tonight is supposed to reach -6 not counting the wind chill factor. In other words, it’s going to be freezing and the roads are going to be totally iced over and treacherous and so are our backyards. If you don’t have to go out, stay home! And please don’t spend too much time outside with your dogs or puppies tonight, just enough to do their business and get back inside. Dogs can get frost bite too!

Sebastian left us today. He is the sweetest little boy. He’s going to a home where they know dogs! I’m told he’s already met his two new four legged companions, both Labrador retrievers that only outweigh him by 90 lbs. Knowing Sebastian he’ll have no problem establishing dominance, licking his way to the top of the pack. I’ll post a picture of Sebastian and his entire new family as soon as I can get it. In the meantime those wee Labs better leave room on the bed for the new king. I taught him martial arts for nights like this.

Havanese: You're Accusing Us of WHAT?

We really like hanging out outside of the xpen. We have had a lot of freedom today and made a couple of mistakes but all and all, we were rather good at hitting the mark.

Remember that car bed that the humans got?

Well, we rather enjoyed it but we love jumping on it, hiding in it, laying in it and smooshing it and pulling on it - oh my. Who us....you don't believe it - do you? Still, it's a mighty comfie item to enjoy and we were just having fun...really....

Remember you can always click on the photos to see a better view and this is another photo of the crew enjoying this bed. They couldn't get enough of it. It proves that the pups rather enjoy cave type beds, tunnels - things they can hide in and have fun in. Keep it in mind when your buying that holiday present or that new puppy present - think cave, tunnels - something to hide in and sometimes it can be found in the cat department of your favourite store.

Then when the crew had enough, Tux climbed on, claimed it as his own but refuses to take any responsibility. heh

The pups had their chances to go outside but found it a bit too blustery and came in quickly spending most of their time playing inside the house. That's okay as the humans were running out of steam from all this shoveling.

As you can see, they were still having a roaring good time. Here the sassy gal we have was having at it with Katsuro. She's not afraid of anything and tends to have a roaring good time with playing games - hiding, pouncing, batting the Katsuro around and he is such a good dog as he almost smiles when they do that.

These days, mommy Wasabi is playing an awful lot with the pups. She is such a great mom and just adores the little ones. It is nice to watch her show them how to play, when enough is enough.

The pups are really enjoying her and they absolutely love being with the larger dogs. Tux even kissed Whitney on the nose today and then laid right down next to her. Ah...puppies...last week for some...and they have so much to look forward to.

Next Day After Vet & Before Baer Testing

The crew already ate and won't be eating till they get back from their hearing test. The lone gal is sore today and expressed it vocally this morning. No one else has. She is staying away from the others and this is highly unusual for her but we figure the soreness will go. No fever, no signs of anything else but soreness where the microchip is.

Mommy Wasabi is almost done weaning the pups (it means they are allowing her to play with them now - hooray) and she likes their food (Merrick's Wingaling) mixed in with softened Fromm's kibble that she ate it all so fast that we had to take her out of the room. This is the 2nd time she devoured this particular meal and the pups love it too. Wasabi - no fair - you are stopping feeding them so leave their food alone. :-)

Today, one by one I am going to work with each dog and see what they can do and how fast they comprehend. I tried tiny pieces of chicken as treats from my hand and they went CRAZY for it. So, now I know I can use chicken as a treat when training. Over the last few weeks, I will try other things.

We have found the dogs DO NOT like Fromm's salmon or duck but adore Fromm's chicken thigh, the Merrick's Wingaling, Puppy Plate, Grandma's Pot Pie, Thanksgiving Day Dinner, Cowboy Cookout and we will try them on others. We do know they like the Fromm's dry food softened with our own chicken and steak cut up or shredded in the food processor and mixed in and these two things also do well as training treats as noted above. We will try a few others but really like the quality of the Merrick and Fromm's foods plus adding our own rice, veggies, chicken, steak depending on what you have on hand. We are also giving them goats milk by itself and they rather enjoy that. Do not worry but we put together a package with things they do well on to hold you over for a bit with all the instructions on how much.

We are not finding they have any issues with bowels that some dogs experience with a variety of foods. Even the duck, and salmon that they did not like didn't create a problem but they simply smelled and ate very little.

After the Baer, I will post all weights and results. If anyone else is looking for a puppy, please let us know. We *may* have one available and our good friends had puppies from our Risa's daughter. We saw them yesterday - well I saw them and dogs stayed in the heated car and Nathan snoozed and then Nathan saw them. I am hoping Yvonne posts some photos. In all my excitement, I got some great photos and some not so great - figures. Well, we were tired after the vets. This vet takes a long time checking, ears, eyes, lungs, knees, weight, doing nails, teeth, bone structure, shots and microchips etc. that a couple of hours later we were out the door after 6 pups. We are hoping the hearing test goes much quicker. Pups were amazingly good and the vet staff loved their crate and toys and bumper pads I created just from blankets etc. Toys R Us has some great baby toys that hang on crates or go on mobiles etc. and we are finding they rather enjoy the comfie environment. They initially fussed when they got into the car (they are not used to being in such close quarters with all 6 together) but they soon played and travelled well. I even brought an extra crate pad just in case we had an accident but it wasn't needed. Still, I will bring one today as it's that Murphy's law - if you do not bring it, you will need it.

More later....

Havanese Puppy X-Pen Play Time

There goes that mommy again, crawling in and laying down in the x-pen to play with my pups. She can't help herself.

'Would you be able to?'

From one, to another till she is at the last one - they all get their snuggles and me time around here and if that's not enough, then daddy, and Jonathan and Dennis have to climb in.

One great thing is mommy really takes care of me when I feed the little ones. She often puts a soft blanket under my head so I am comfortable and strokes my head and back. She really takes care of me but everyone loves the doggies around this place and hey - how could they not. We make them laugh, feel good and we tend to complete the house they say!

Then this weekend we have more visitors and a bonus, grandpa is also coming to visit and he LOVES doggies. Good thing around this place.

Also, the grand kids are coming and they just ADORE us. It's going to be a fun socialization weekend for us. Socialization in small doses is important as it helps us to be all we can be.

Okay, mommy - it's my time. They do have to eat, you know - and sleep too. Oh, you haven't finished?

Now if that wasn't enough, mommy decided to put on a mini jacket that she had for Shoshi when she first got here and place it on our mostly white pup.

You can't see it in this photo but it's way too big. He's going to have to grow into it but we think this will be his coat as it's an easy on/easy off and Shoshi never wore it cause after all, she's a girl doggie. This will fit him for a bit till he has to get the next size.

When we have our back yard play sessions - maybe in the snow - am hoping - this will help us stay warm till we get our full coat (our undercoat) in. This is a perfect coat as it's fast to put on, gives freedom of movement and it's toasty warm. We be stylin it and mommy is doing a file that tells about what type of clothes you should look for and why. Look for it soon on our Havanese Stylin' & Toys section. Be sure to send your Havanese in stylish clothing and tell us why you like it. If the photo is a good quality (meaning not hard to visualize), we will add it to our Stylin' section.

Wasabi - yeah me - well I just adore sharing - I honestly do!

Havanese Sleep Positions

Well, my pups have some strange sleeping positions and we are all now starting to hang out either together or by ourselves when we sleep. I guess they have adjusted to the air temperature but human mommy still has a heat lamp set up just in case we want some more warmth.

We have a carrier and a tunnel in the x-pen so my pups can get used to different places. This way a carrying case won't be an unfamiliar place. We will put a crate in there after a week or so to start them getting used to that as well.

The pups are really starting to show their personalities and it happens in hours the changes vs days. It's amazing. We are finding our one with our half mustache much like his mom is the most adventurous of the crew lately. He will run and wag his tail and come running to you, give kisses, climb under blankets - all sorts of things. It's a riot. They each have unique personalities and none are whiners of any sort but human mom was laying in the x-pen yesterday as we were trying to take a video and the DVD medium was corrupt - sorry no video - will try today and three of them thought they could suckle on her tummy. ROFL They just love human interaction though - way nice!

Today we have a lot of visitors coming to see my pups. I tend to get a little stressed so we are going to keep visits short. I can't seem to feed my pups when too much activity is going on. I am a dog that tends to enjoy activity but am also on guard as my babies are special - amazingly so and mommy and daddy are hoping that they have personalities like me as I am so evenly balanced when I am not worried about the babies and I have a full spirited sense of play that will keep you laughing. Oh well....got to get ready for visitors. Mom is not feeling well so tonight she may crawl back into bed at 8pm when all the visitors are gone.

And as the last photo shows...we are all dead tired and getting our rest till visitors come after a full morning of play with human mom and dad and me - Wasabi Woo, of course!

You can always click on photos to see a larger photo of us. Try it! We did a video but a very short one - better one tomorrow. We promise!

Havanese Playhouse Discovery

Hey - this is Wasabi and Mommy's done it again. She's having the pups test the waters. Here she has a Zanies Kitty Playhouse - yeah that's what they call it. It changes into 8 shapes and it's a tunnel (see the figure below).

The base - well the innards is foam based so it's different to walk on than our whelping box that has a rug that helps us to have grip. That helps us strengthen our legs. It's easy to wash or wipe clean. That makes it WAY useful for puppies.

Mommy says this helps my pups get familiar with different textures but it also helps feed our curiosity of new things. Only 3 of us have tried it so far but it's way fun.

You should see how we navigate through the tunnel. In the coming weeks, we will be trying it in a variety of shapes and keeping track of who does what. Care to see a larger photo of my pup looking around, simply click on his photo.

Here's one of my pups almost saying, "Is this the way out?" Maybe I should just take a nap and call it a day but he didn't. He found his way from one end to the next with no trouble but spent more time than one of the others checking out the surroundings.

The one with the mask decided it was good to look around but walk right through without hanging out.

The one that my human mom and dad call Tux checked the entire place out spending the most amount of time in the tunnel. All 3 found their way out without issue.

I, the Wasabi want to climb in too but I just fit. Are we in for some real fun or what. Cats aren't the only ones that can enjoy these thinking toys. Us Havanese types are known for using our minds. My kids - oops pups are the smartest ever. ROFL!!!!!

Fill Me Up Two Whole Weeks Old

I am so thoroughly pleased that my pups are two weeks old today. Can't you see their tiny tails wagging up high saying - fill me up!

They have now taken eating to a whole new level - slurping loudly at times as if they are starving but they aren't.

Auntie Yvonne came to see my pups today. She brought, Britney, Lola, Maggie and the pups to meet someone that was interested in the pups and one is going to their new home Sunday. Read all about it soon on their blog.

The puppies were so cute too - just scrumptious and full of mischievous fun.

Katsuro spent all of his time trying to woo Maggie and they played Halloween dress-up. See them stylin' it!

Now daddy is off to BBQ me some CHEESEburgers in the rain. Yes, I meant to spell it like that. What a dad! I even gave him massive hugs today - cuddle city. He's so special to me. Now where's those burgers, daddy? I have to get back to the kids soon - oops the pups.

Havanese Mom Needs Bath

One day, I am going to blackmail mom with these photos she takes of me. She tells me that now that it is day 13, I need a bath. So what if my cute pups have been making my stomach interesting and so what if I looked like the cat just dragged me through the rafters...I sort of LIKE that look. It's better than a bath any old day!

Well, she tells me that Katsuro needs a bath too so I guess I will have a playmate during this cleaning process. Mom likes to have fun with us when we get a bath and it works. I do enjoy my time but mom will have to blow dry me today as its a bit cold and the puppies will create knots otherwise.

Each day mom gets up, gives me a massage - ahhhh and combs my hair and then weighs the babies. It used to worry me as she would put them in this sling and then hold them carefully in the air. I had no clue what she was up to but I trust the old human mom so I have calmed down and don't even get in the whelping box while she does it. She does though and one day someone is going to capture her in her jammies doing it. Oh...if i could only hold the camera myself.

Well more later...

Wasabi's Havanese Pups Will Play

Mommy says, Wasabi is an interesting mom. She's ever so attentive but she wants the pups to play. I find Wasbi bringing her toys in for the pups to play all the time and its way funny. She even shakes them to get their attention. I guess she doesn't realize they can't hear yet. She's going to love it when they really start playing.

Wasabi says, of course - their mine - all mine till they get new homes - sigh! Till then, I plan to have tons of fun with them and then hopefully I will get to see them at the yearly picnic mom and dad have.

Daddy says, Wasabi not only uses her mind but she has fun doing it. Some would say, Wasabi is a thinker and she is but that's what makes her ever so special. She comes up with solutions fast and we know her pups will too! They take after her, of course. ROFL!

Mommy had my pups out and she had them with the toys all to indulge me and every last one of them crawled and pushed the toys here and there. Mommy thought I might get stressed while she took photos but I was so excited to see them with my toys. She had to have her feet surrounding them as they are a growing concern. They are moving fast these days - almost 9 days old - 8.5 to be exact. By gad, I will get them playing - just watch. To catch these photos, check out Wasabi's Puppy Photos. Mommy adds to them every single day.

Land of the Living Havanese Puppies

Well look what I got? Tails, tails, tails sticking out everywhere. I have a hungry crew but quiet. They only fuss if I go outside to do my duty or move. Am I lucky, or what? Good pups right from the start and snuggles not just next to my tummy but a few love to cuddle up to my neck and just sleep so contented. It makes me feel sooooo good.

Momma Rita bought me this cute bow and mom just put it in to make me feel dawg - sort of like feeling human again but we furry things feel like dawgs again. heh

Mom and dad are giving me pedialyte with ice in it. None of that warm stuff, you hear. I am a pampered gal even more so than that Paris Hilton human creature - hahaha and better looking, don't you think? Let's see if she can have 6 things clamouring all over her and not guys - well I guess I do have 5 guys all over me and one lone girl, come to think of it. Still, the attention I am getting has to be better than any she may get.

Now where am I getting such crazy ideas? Well, mom had that TMZ show on TV - gad. It's bad enough she mocks up pages on these celebs but she has to listen to it too - tsk tsk. Well, by listening to it, I know how good I really have it - no worries about bad fashion, good fashion, am I preggie or not - hey I shout that stuff out instead of hiding it. Be proud gals.

Well, off to get my sanity break. Mom says I am blogging it too much. A gal has to speak her mind - no?

A Girl & Her Toys

Well, already my pups received a cool present - this ducky from Rita Thomas of Sonrisas Havanese and mom and dad placed it in the whelping box and I jumped in. With one full swoop, I retrieved it and I won't let anyone else touch it. It quacks. It's soft and I just adore it.

A girl has to do what a girl has to do when it comes to those special toys.

What - it was supposed to be for the pups? Well mom and dad can get another for them, can't they? I mean, it may look like the cat dragged it in and stomped on it by the time they come...

I am not eating much yet today. I am waiting till daddy goes and gets me something truly special. I have the guy wrapped around my tiny paws.

Oh, I must be eating enough as the tummy is growing and they actually have this idea that they are taking photos of me all round and - well bloated. Well, they can think twice about THAT but I may have to learn HTML, steal mom and dad's passwords and zap a photo or two or better yet put one interesting of THEM up.

Thank you to my other momma Rita for such a MARV-e-LOUS present. I could get used to this pampering.

Less than a month and counting.
