Puppy Fun

Molly is over for an overnighter and she was having a grand time with the pups. We picked Molly up from her house and she was delightfully pleased that she had all this crew to play with her.

Her mom and dad are coming at noon tomorrow after she gets a bath. Good thing I have 2 dryers as one bit the dust today. I am so upset but I also have a crate dryer so I will use that on one side and the stand one on the other. We will figure it all out. Last time I had to have a dryer fixed it took me 6 weeks. By that time I can air dry them as it will be so warm. hahahahaha

Molly is a Kat and Wasabi pup. She looks a lot like Kat to me in this photo. She came in full of life as if she was in a candy store and all the candy was for her.

It's delightful to watch.

Today we went to the show and tomorrow I have Molly to bathe and I need to play catchup on grooming. I had planned on washing Fiona but we shall see how this dryer situation works out.

I was unhappy about the dog show. Usually it is much larger and more vendors. But as Nathan said we still managed to spend money.

We got chicken strips, liver treats, a pad for one of the crates from Bowser as I couldn't resist giving them comfort and Suzie and Helen brought us this bed for the pups. It's so cute! They adore it and its large enough for all!

Best part is going to the Tim Hortons afterwards to chat with Helen and Suzy. We don't get to see them enough.

In His Usual Form

Truff was making the most of the hot day playing out with the pups. Me, I am waiting till the sun goes down to take them out again so I am not sweating too much.

Is this heatwave something else? I have a tulip blooming - yikes.

Too much to do in the garden for sure.

Done Grooming

Today I lined comb you don't want to know how many. I do believe I am tired. I still have Cocoa's paperwork to do, blogs to do and more.

Friday I have 2 adults and 10 pups to wash. Washing 10 pups is interesting and a lot of work. Thursday I have 2 adults. Saturday night I have Cocoa as he goes home Sunday but I won't have time on Sunday. Then we have a full weekend with visitors so I may be crawling into bed each night.

I also watched the dawgs outside and clicked some photos. I also played with pups and made sure moms were feeding. I also made food for the pups, moms etc and I took my ipad into the grooming room and watched 'The Voice" and "Smash" while I groomed for the first time and found it went easier as I was distracted to a point. It was good. I did laundry while I groomed too. hahahaha Nothing like multi-tasking.

Usually I don't get to watch TV till about now and only bits and pieces and when I go to  bed and I usually fall asleep 10 minutes into the show. So it was good to watch while I groomed. It made it more enjoyable.

I also had a great time clicking photos of visitors and snuggling with everyone.

What did you did today?

Oh My!

I have to tell you it is a slow grooming recovery but we are getting there in the bathing department. Yesterday Fiona and Roxie got done. Friday Panda and Logan got done. Today we are going to try for Truffie and Phantom.

If I keep going like this I may get everyone done.

I use the window of right after Wasabi finishes feeding and I am awake. :-)

The way Truffie has been rolling in the snow his coat may be scary. We shall find out.

Wish me luck. :-) At least I know how to get knots out relatively quickly. :-) For the first time Roxie had some. :-( Clean coats knot less. So does a daily grooming. Dirty coats mat easily. When that happens you know it is wash time.

Crazy Times

Let's see, I got 90% of the dogs washed and/or groomed and Nathan finished the rest. Phantom must be done daily as well as Kat not just groomed but washed thoroughly underneath as they are breeding. That means shampoo, hose off, brush and dry. Nathan doesn't do this so that is on me.

Boys also stop marking outside when the heat is finished. I am looking forward to that. Let's see we have 12 more days of that.

When I got up I washed Truffie's bum. I brushed him out, I washed several others on their back end. It was the %$& mud.

I did Terra's ear and Nathan swept the floor after I mentioned it for the 50th time. He mumbled he hasn't sat down yet. I said welcome to the club. hahahaha

But otherwise we are playing with the dogs, getting everything done. I am not sure I brushed my hair. I did get a shower in and it lasted about 10 minutes vs 2 minutes.

Puppies for the 1st few days are a lot of work. You have to clean the mom's bottom each time they go out and blow dry it so pups don't get a chill. You have to feed them several times and they don't want to leave the pups so half the time you are hand feeding the, to make sure calcium intake is up and the rest. Milk production, their health and minimizing stress is important and we do spoil our moms. I didn't forget about Teaser. She got a massive massage all over today and she was in heaven. You also have to make sure all pups are on the nipples each feeding and that's not always easy.

I have listened to the same TV show 5 times and have yet to hear it all. Laundry is going and going and going.

Tonight when everyone is sleeping I will clean all 3 pens and sterilize and change the beddings. Teaser pups will go upstairs and Abigail and Wasabi will have their gates open so they can go in and out. They work well together and trust each other. Interesting enough they don't trust Teaser yet but Teaser trusts then. Go figure. That will come.

Well back to moms. Blogs done, I think.

Icy Ground

Quito (not one of ours but owned by a dear friend) is here with Panda in the background.

I posted this photo so you could see the condition of our yard. It is trecherous.

The pool cover is clear and they can run across that but the grass area is icy and slippery. It is also muddy too in the non ice sections - joy - not.

I am hoping that we can get the pups outside tomorrow before their baths but time will tell.

Kona Winking

As you may have guessed I am going through older photos and enjoying them.

This is Kona winking when he was how old? I am not sure. I think it was taken on Dennis B-day on April 17th.

Folks, send me some updates, please!

Class and Socializing

It was fun to finally get out and see the class. We missed Susan and Illan but I am hoping to see them next week.

The crew has some practicing to do. They are all doing quite well but homework is important to accomplish and so is that scavenger list. Are you filling it out?

You may think, okay its just work but what you are doing is building a base of bonding, confidence and much more. Plus the scavenger list exposes them to all sorts of things. We fear what we do not know and that's true of the dawgs too.

Even if yours is sitting solidly or staying solidly, expand the space and length of time to see how they do. Practice on walks but keep the sessions short - 10 minutes at a time.

To this day we can give a hand signal and Shoshi will go immediately into a down position.

It's nice to know all that hard work pays off. They are only wee ones once in their lives and you are working on getting them to be marvelous adults. It's a fun ride!

Photos are coming later.

Shoshi Cleaned Up

Shoshi was unabled to be clean due to her surgery until she was healed. She was needing a bath at that time so you can imagine the condition she was in.

Sure I brushed and combed her but dirty hair simply mats by touch so when I washed I had to take the thinning shears and cut into those spots and pull it apart. It took me 2 hours to do her but I am particular about finding anything and I want to be careful not to hurt her when pulling a mat apart. It's rare we get any as I do brush and clean them up all the time but this was special circumstances.

I am telling you this cause with hair like Shoshi's you can cut into the knot with thinning shears and pull the knot apart and not see it.

She may have the coat from hell but it's also easy to cut into it and not see where you did as she has that electrified look - paw in the socket look. Her hair has taught me so many techniques on how to demat or coat a cuticle etc.

Them after using a tightly tined comb I went through her emtire coat making sure I didn't miss a thing. I cleaned her pads, her tummy, her ears and them she went out in the rain and came in as a mud ball.

They all came in as a mud ball. I can't win....

Recall Class

Ah thanks goes to Nadia and to Lynda for sending me photos so I can see what happened in recall to a point. I would love to hear what everyone thought of the class. It's painful to have missed so much.:-(

It looks like Nathan was praying to the dawg gods he remembered what to do or something. hahahahaha

He got home late so I got oh an hour sleep and then I was up for the night. Today I managed to sleep from 8am till 2pm.

We are getting semi back to normal. I figure by Monday ewr may be in great shape or conditioned.

Times Are Changing

Truth be known I rather like the haphazard look of hair flying every which way and leaves stuck and well messy but I do like knot free.

So how do you combine such?

Just let them play and brush each day.

Who looks the messiest here? Certainly not Cooper but he's had a bath. :-)

In less than a week Cooper who now knows his new name will be going to his forever home.

We will miss him and I gather Truffie and Spice will too.

It just means they will have to come to visit.

Crisp!!

The gang had a lot of play outside today. It was brisk and good weather to play retreive.

Our neighbours to the south of us are dealing with all sorts of white stuff. We have been blessed with just a tad bit of crisp weather. Time to get the waterpots in and the cover of the sunshade.

Here's to a no snowblower winter yet again.

Okay, stop the whining. It's bound to be fun!

PS: Shoshi is doing much better than yesterday!

Shoshi Update

Shoshi gets picked up today and gets to dine on wet food.

They say she is fine. The tooth was difficult to get out so she will be sore. She will have pain pills. The tooth broke into pieces but they managed to get it all out. The infection was still there despite a weeks worth of meds. She will have another 2 weeks of meds but no more pain.

This is our very first dog in all my life that had to have an extraction on adult teeth.

When you looked at the tooth you really couldn't see it. The crack was a hairline but just enough to let bacteria in.

Due to the difficulty she has to stay on iv for a tad longer than we expected to help get the anesthesia out of her system. But she is quiet and coming home soon.

Nathan is going to get her while I had to remain home to sit vigil with Fiona. Fiona is not doing anything today but that was Nathan's excuse so he gets his alone time with his gal. hahahahaha

They did clean and polish up those teeth while they were at it.

Finding Excellent

Check out this video. It's not a Havanese but it tells a story. Each of us have to watch and listen to our dog and their needs and help them to achieve what floats their boat, so to speak.

Each dog excels in something, some in a variety of things but one thing really gets their heart beating with happiness.

Your goal should be to find out what that is and help them be all they can be. It's truly worth it!

Just think what they give you back and would when you help them to be all they are meant to be.

My two cents for the day...

Risa Getting Older

The Risa was carefully lined comb and ended up just like this. How long did it take?

Oh about 10 minutes - longer than Wasabi and Spice but still....

Risa has started to do mad play each morning. Nathan gets the dogs outside and I look for my bathrobe. It's a ritual. One could leave the bathrobe in one place and next to the bed but it gives me those extra couple of minutes to scratch and rough it up with mad play with Risa and she just LOVES it.

Never say they are too old for fun. We aren't too old for fun either!!

Those Kids

The kids have started playing a game of hide and seek under the brush and trees and bushes. The adults seem to play around with it and get the game.

How do they communicate that they adults know what the games are and what the rules are?

They use body language. You should educate yourself as its fascinating how without words they still manage to understand what the others want.

Collision

Each time that I watched the dawgs do their run like hey game I kept thinking COLLISION but they come so close but not so close.

It's sort of like watching poetry in motion.

Today it was a warmer day and quite nice to hamg out and watch and click.

I can't wait till Treasures 2 can join in.

Play Sessions

The dawgs don't play all day long. They have this feverish run and play and then they drop and rest and then they start again.

Do you think if we did that we would have more energy?

Can I Get Dirty?

Spice had a bath today and she is on her way to looking like the cat dragged her through the bush.

I just love dawgs, I do, I do, I do. Repeat over and over when I see their dirty faces and all that laundry and grooming to do.

Okay, it's not that bad but it is one of those days.

Fiona is also still having morning sickness. Poor thing...
