Noisy Eaters

You can hear them eating - really. It's a riot!

Back sleeping is how I catch them here and there but they still enjoy snuggles.

Yes, Creamy's ears are the first to go down. He has a nice ear. Here he was checking out the outside of the whelping box. He is a curious one. Soon we will be taking the box out and they will have beds to sleep on, a crate and a pee pad. We take the box away as soon as they start to climb out.

They are attempting walking, strengthening their legs. They are right on track - a bit ahead of schedule.

Are they adorable!

Here are today's videos.

16 Days Old

The pups get snuggles many times a day and they are warm to the moments. Most times when they open their eyes at first they go who are you? They didn't. They stayed relaxed and curious.

So far creamy is the most adventurous but that will alll change when they start truly walking. They do love the comfort of each other but can be found to be independent in their sleep at times.

Jeannie loves to snuggle with them and yes she wants Spice's too. hahahaha

Here are today's videos.

Puppy Love

Can you believe they are two weeks old and a half a day. Yes, the pups are a week apart. To be a real detail person there is 7.5 days old of a difference. As they get older it won't matter and by week 4 and week 5 approximately we will try them together. It is best for the pups as it truly teaches them social skills. At first they will stick with their siblings and then its as if they were always together.

Jeannies pups are all over a pound and creamy ending up as 1lb 6 ounces.

The difference between the lighter pups in each litter is Jeannie's is a cream with tan markings whre Spice's is white with a black ear. One is a boy. One is a gal. I will tell you that so far creamy is the lover. It's as if he says hold me - that feels great. Snuggle with me - ah grand. You will even catch him with arms around his siblings.

13 Days Old Tonight

As you can see I am getting later and later with updates but Nathan will be home late tomorrow night so we will be back to normal come Monday though I have baths to do. hahaha

By tomorrow the pups will have their eyes open. I have slits open in a different degree on all. But you can tell by tomorrow we will have eyes wide open. I am excited but disappointed that Nathan will miss it. But if he didn't go to the show look at all the wins he wouldn't have had. He will play catch-up when he returns when I am doing baths, hahaha. All mine are due.

As you can see all pups have what I term airplane ears at this age. As they grow the ears grow and lay down. It's a riot at this stage.

Soon after the eyes open they will start playing with each other and attempting to walk. It will be a faster paced change that you will appreciate. Nathan really gets involved around 4 weeks as that is when he can interact with them fully. I tend to like all the stages. I find them so fascinating.

11 and a Half Days Old

Click on Photo for Larger ViewNo eyes open yet but they are only going on 12 days old. They are still eating 3 hours apart and eating with gusto. They are crawling all over the xpen. I am lucky as I have doting moms but Jeannie has reached a point where she can have solid rest between. Spice only gets about an hour and 15 minutes or so between. She will get there.

The 2 boys have reached a solid pound and the gals are just an ounce and thhe other 2 ounces below the 1 pound mark. I can't wait till they start really trying to walk. I am so happy with both litters! All are quite healthy and beautiful!

10 and a Half Days Old

I am brushing Jeannie 2 times and the pups get her looking like this. I can only imagine when they are older. Pups are doing great. The boys are edging up on 1 pound. They are fat, healthy and starting to move around when Mom comes close by. They know where the milk bar is.

Each day, many times a day I hold and caress them so they get used to human touch. I can't wait till the eyes open as that is when they get most active.

Can you believe 11 days old tonight. They are at a point where they are easy care. They eat, they sleep and that will change once they can see where they are. Activitu levels increase 10 fold. They are simply beautiful. We are lucky to have 10 pups that are gorgeous but I am biased.

10 Days Old Tonight

Click on Photo for a Larger ViewI brushed Jeannie and she took out her hair tie. Oh Jeannie you are so funny.

Pups will be 10 days old tonight. They are simply plump and moving concerns but they are still sleeping a ton. It's how they grow and develop properly. They also had their toe nails clipped as they started getting stuck. The rule of thumb is you cut when they start curving over. Almost 10 days seems to be the timing. Soon it will be weekly as they fast track in growth. Here's a gallery of their nail clipping.

Here are the videos. Please realize that I may be doing less extensive updates from Thursday to Monday as Nathan is away starting tomorrow. I will be even busier than usual.

Doing the Math

I have been a bit fried. The pups will be 9 days old tonight. This means they are 7.5 days older than Spice's.

These 2 births were relatively easy. Thanks goes to Nathan for whelping them leaving me free to do updates and photo and video taking. It's a lot of work juggling. We have created this system as it works but if we have issues it is I who has to take over I guess as I tend to do what we need to. I was lucky to take a seminar with UC Davis and Myra Savant on what to do with tough deliveries. We have had a few. Severed cord, a stuck puppy sideways, a blue puppy and I could go on and on. I mention this as you won't see photos of this as I am doing the work necessary. I have even delivered in the van. Over the years you get better and better at it. Early on I believe I lost a few as I was green. It was heartbreaking and even saved one that shouldn't have been saved as it had hypoxia as its cord was severed and was behind a slow birthing pup. We had to put him down due to seizures and after a full necropsy costing a fortune we validated it was hypoxia not a liver shunt that our vet initially thought. We have never had a liver shunt and hope to never have. Sometimes I question keeping those alive that seem not compatible with life but it's an emotional and intellectual struggle that is not easy and each person handles it different.

Snoozing PupsBreeding is not easy but I can't imagine doing it without Nathan nor him without I. Sure I did Jeannie's first by myself but there is nothing like having a team and we are one. So, I thank him for being who he is.

Jeannie is doing well and adjusting to not having access to Spice's pups.

Pups are fat and I am looking forward to having eyes open and hearing. This happens soon. It's not a set date. It happens usually one or a couple at a time. It is my face I want them to see first where Nathan feels the same. heh
