Patches Visits

Here's a video of the visit. It was a short visit but a fun one. Check out the gallery as well. Angela brought a blanket for the pups and a spirited Patches. Thank you. It made our day! She sure loves the Patches and the Patches sure loves her! How sweet!

Now Jeannie kept barking for attention. She has never done that before. I wonder what that was about!

Abby Adventures

Abby has got into a routine. She eats, she naps, she plays, she naps and sometimes she watches tv. She is also being taught to be gentle with the younger set. This is a puppy age thing. She is learning.

Abby loves this string. She loves to play tug. I believe she is adapting to not having her siblings but instead is surrounded by adults. She's going to be great with other dogs but she will miss the activity at first, I suspect. It always happens when they stay a tad later. She is very social and fun!

Hmm What Was That?

Abby saw an ant and boy was she curious. She's a fun pup. She has adapted to dogs big, small and inbetween. When she is tired she goes into her xpen and goes to sleep. The older dogs don't leave her alone as they have more energy. At this stage the pups are growing and do a fair bit of sleeping and that sleeping helps them to grow. She likes the ability to sleep. Then when she wakes up she says can I come out? She has learned that cries do not get you out but sitting quietly does.

Jeannie is still playing with her from morning till night. Jeannie is still adjusting and then she will adjust again when Abby goes. Good news Jeannie has started playing with the adults.

Lessons Plus Fun Videos

Abby says I am boss. Today Abby was sewing her oats and putting her head over the little ones to say I am the boss. Interesting enough Roxie's pups said no.

Shiner started out playing with Abby nicely then was a tad too physical. We corrected and he's starting to get that the younger ones need to be played with differently.

There must be something in the air as Inula corrected Shiner too.

These are all valuable lessons. The dogs learn by play and when they say enough it is important for them to listen and if not you separate and then try again later.

This is how litters learn but in their case each puppy is the same age so they are not dealing with a larger dog but it is important that they do in a safe environment as it makes them better dogs.

It means watching, knowing when to say enough if one party is not listening but not coddling so you create fear.

Abby is still eating in her xpen and taking naps in it. She is fine by herself when she is tired. She is also doing well at night in the bed. She is a fun, fun dog. She just has to learn she is bigger than the Roxie pups and Shiner has to learn he is bigger than both of them. We are making headway and they will all be better dogs when they 'get' it.

Here is a video I took when all 3 pups were here and Sandy visited. It has the Roxie and Jeannie pups together.

Plus a truly fun video of Patches. She looks like she is enjoying herself!

Abby's Day

Abby's had a full day. She did really well sleeping in bed and then was raring to go this morning after breakfast. She played outside with the big guys. She played indoors with the little ones and she played with the little ones outside as well. She has had a very full day.

Now she is out in the kitchen playing with the Roxie pups and Dennis.

Here is a video of her sleeping in her xpen. She does whine to get out but we do not take her out till she stops. She has learned this quickly. I get it that she is lonely without the siblings and wants to be out playing with the rest so she is most of the day. But when she eats and has a nap she goes back into the xpen. They sleep a fair bit at this age.

She is really a good puppy who seems to adapt to many situations. New dogs, no problem. Its hard when one stays extra as your focus is just on them and then they go. :-) Think that is true of Jeannie too. Jeannie is slowly adapting to less pups.
