Learning to Play

Jeannie has started to learn that pups are not to be mauled. They squeak and say hey enough and she learns and they learn under our supervision.

Without this process they don't 'get' their strength or understand boundaries. It is such an important process.

Last night we were watching X-Factor results and eating popcorn in the TV room. Jeannie started barking insisting I feed her. I corrected her and she was unhappy but if she had continued I would have put her outside of the TV room till she got that you don't demand food especially with barking.

They are pups and they learn. They are smart and if you are consistent and don't give in you end up with the dog you want.

It is difficult but you really can not give in or they win. No one likes
spoiled children or dawgs.

Kathy: So very true!

Timmy was trying the same tactic, barking to demand food. We ignored him until he stopped barking or shushed him if he didn't stop. When he was quiet for a time, he got a treat. No more barking for food. They are very smart.
