Just Shy of 4 Weeks Old

Click on Photo for Larger View

So many things have changed for the pups. Lets see - the got out of their whelping box. They had time outside of the whelping box numerous times. They have been carried around the house. They are snuggled into a bed above and they get into it and out of it.

They love tunnels. They are now sleeping about 3.5 hours but as soon as we introduce food that will change and they will sleep longer.

The boy is now well over 2lbs. The gals are not - sitting at 4 ounces under the 2lb mark.

They are now placed on the pad each time they wake up and after each feeding.

Check out the videos to see.

Each day, twice a day I still weigh them. That will stop soon as they will be hard to catch the weight properly. You see when they don't stay still it bounces all over so you can only do it when they are tired and most likely after eating as they are more sedate immediately after then they are playing as food gives them energy after they start digesting. You have such a small window.

I usually go down to once a day when it gets difficult and try to catch them at the right moment. It can be a challenge. So far, I am okay.

Tomorrow the pups reach a huge milestone - 4 weeks old. They have had a lot of exposures and Jeannie has been amazing! Sometime between 4 and 5 weeks I will start them on food and by 5 weeks or so they will start doing upstairs. Usually I have the camera upstairs so I can watch so I am not sure how I am going to do that now but we will figure it out.

Has anyone taken the plunge and got a Foscam camera? If so, send me mail. I can tell you the best software and all the fun things you can do with it on the ipad or the android. Foscam doesn't tell you and we learned as we went so you may as well have my experience to lean on. They have outdoor ones too but you have to have an expert install those or someone that is handy. Not here - hahahaha

Lovely videos. Good job on using the pad already. Wow, they grow so fast, it makes my head spin.

I love that bed the pups are snuggled in. Do you know where I could get one? If someone gifted it, could you share the info? Thx.

Debbie, I saw some not exactly the same, but similar, recently at Petsmart by Martha Stewart.

Thank you Diane. Laci has worn out her little cocoon and I can't find them but this one looks nice and cozy. I'll check them out.

Debi, I bought a really nice bed for Mateo at Pet Valu not that long ago. It is the donut shape that they seem to like. It was fairly expensive, but it is made really well. It is made out of material that they upholster couchs with, and the cushion is washable and the rest of it zippers off so you can wash it. I got a neutral colour that looks O.K. to be in the living room.

Is it a Bowser Bed? If so it is the best beds made, imho. I know a woman in Mississauga that turns old furniture into dog beds - like gutted old tvs, old tables that had doors on them, beds from drawers, suitcases etc.

Yes it is a Bowser bed.

I missed buying it when it was on sale, and the Pet Valu manager discounted it to almost the sale price for me.
When I was just looking at the Pet Valu website, I sorted the dog beds alphabetically. It didn't dawn on me until now that one of their brands is Bailey and Bella, the same names that Sylvia named her dogs.
I am anxiously awaiting Roxie's puppies today. I told Mateo he will be an uncle today.

Diane: They are the BEST beds and last the longest. The most desirable ones here are the couch type beds. We only have 1 and after many, many years its died a death. They are not cheap so I await the next All About Pet Show and hope they are there this year. There you could buy last years designs cheap.

Funny about Bella and Bailey.

Roxie has decided not now and is napping. heh

I just googled bed Bowser and they have many colours and designs to choose from. The smallest is $180. Then I googled PetValu and PetSmart. They have Bowser beds offered for less but still up there. I didn't see any like the one in the photo above though. However, thanks everyone as it was nice to see what's out there. The one Laci has had since her homecoming was from Winners but I can't find them there now. (or HomeSense.)

Debbie, Sorry for the misunderstanding.
The one I said they had in the Petsmart Store that is similar to the one above is made by Martha Stewart. I have found that Petsmart doesn't always have everything that is in their store on their website.
The one I got for Mateo at Pet Valu is a Bowser bed. It doesn't look like the one above that you like, I just told you about it since I like it and I think it is well made. The URL that I included for the one I bought, the smallest one is 79.00. I think I bought the next size up and it ended up around that price, because I missed the sale and I said it was kind of expensive, so the manager discounted it for me and the price ended up being around 80.00 or so with tax. I saw them a while before that and looked for something cheaper, but after I saw that one and liked it, nothing I saw seemed to compare to it.

Diane, I 'm sorry I missed your post about the bed you bought @ PetValu. Thx for the info - I appreciate that. Sounds like Mateo has a wonderful home.

Diane - Seems we are posting at the same time. Just posted mine above and see another from you. Thank you for all the information. I would like a Bowser bed and like you, one that is neutral for the family room. I rarely go to PetSmart so I guess I should return and check them out. Thanks again!

You can call Bowser themselves. Whatever design you want they have. This was our dog's fave - http://www.bowsers.com/ca/pet-beds/double-donut.html but ours has finally bit the dust. It lasted through goldens and many havanese naps on it. But at $180 - well the camera for the pups is more important. But quality - yep and as I said they do last. So in the long run they are worth the $$ unless you like to chance beds often.

Talk about change - Laci doesn't like change and so why I "try" to mix things up in every regard. She's had a new bed similar to the cave she has and we had it out in the family room for 2 wks putting treats in it and her baby stuffed animal. Once she finally went in to retrieve what she wanted we put it in her pen for sleeping. She has yet to sleep in it. She has a curious little personality! :-)
