It's Been a Long Night: Plus Updates

No puppies yet but finally temps went back up. The rule of thumb is when they go back up (went back up this morning) it is usually within 24 hours. Jeannie is nesting. She had destroyed the whelping box towels many times over. She is restless and I am trying to get her to sleep.

I am still glad I washed and trimmed up Abby late last night as rush jobs are never fun nor as good. Now all I have is a comb out of Scruffy and Pepper that I will do shortly and do a quicker one before departure plus comb out Abby before home.

I had no sleep last night. It's hard as I love my dogs more than imagination can fathom. So I worry and check and check and check. Even though Nathan went into the other room he said the dogs didn't let him sleep. Then he was upset as I said maybe last night as the vet insisted it was 12 hours after drop. It is 12 hours after rise. I know better. So we are both terminally exhausted so lets hope for an easy delivery and all fat and healthy pups.

It is cloudy. It is misting and depressing outside. It means lots of paw cleanups. I am tired. I am hungry. I realized Nathan should do some food shopping but Jon has work so thankfully he is 10 minutes away and his boss is on alert in case we need to go to the vets. We have one car. We are working on having another this month. People do not make $$ from dogs even though it appears to be a way of making a living, it isn't. Each time you are ahead something happens and you are in the negative.

I say all this as I have a friend moving to a farm that thought dog breeding would be a great way of making a living. It is not. You must do it for the love of the dogs. It is a LOT of work. It can also bring heartache. When we have pups its a 24 hour watch. Sure some sleep and let life just do its things with the what will be will be but I can't do that so until the pups are older Dennis or I do the all night duty. It means one of us is sleeping during the day and woken up constantly with people coming and going. Nathan needs his sleep so no night time duty for him. You are a zombie but then you look at the precious beings and how happy mom is and you know that it is worth everything.

I am hoping I can get a GoPro this month. Thank you to a friend that gave me a birthday gift I am halfway there. Nathan balked and said what do you need that for? The unique perspective I can get of the pups and the dogs will make moments to treasure. Plus it does under water and can you imagine puppy legs in the pool? I am an artistic person. I used to have time for such things but now I have dogs and photography so a GOPRO silver with a chest holder is in the cards cause guess what sometimes you need an indulgence. Till then I will use my foscam to take videos of the pups after they are born but I will not be taking videos during delivery. It is too stress-filled, messy and enough to take photos. Nathan thinks I am crazy as I am taking photos when focus should be on Jeannie but I think I do balance that quite well.

So pups today - we shall see. What time... have no clue but when we have active labour I will post.

I give up. I may take a nap before Abby is picked up. This gal ate some beef sausage and no progress. Is she fooling us? She's going to kill me for sure and all of you too I imagine.

Good luck today. Hope all goes well. We can see from your site that you work hard every single day ( a lately night too!) We can also see that you clearly love what you do and would not have it any other way. Looking forward to the safe arrival of the little ones, a healthy Jeannie and of course some sleep for you and Nathan!!

We hope as well for an easy delivery and all fat and healthy pups. Good luck to you all. Anyone who follows your blogs knows that you do this for love and to allow others to have the love from these precious beings you bring into the world. It takes a special kind of person to do that. Thank you!!

I'm so touched by your post. I feel very fortunate that I found you and Nathan and Spice and Jeannie for my very first puppy. Thank you for all you do.

Darlah maybe try for 10 minutes sitting with the dogs with your eyes close. I am sure you will not be able to nap. Hope Jeannie has fat healthy pups today.

Dog breeding can often be a money losing proposition. It must be done for love of the dogs and contributing to a strong healthy Havanese population in Canada.

Talemaker pups are well loved and begin their lives in luxury and love.
