I worried about Roxie and motherhood. She is a tiny gal but so is our Fiona. She acted as if she was still immature at 2 and so did Panda. It was why we waited till they were 2.5 years old. Its not just about age but maturity level. In many ways Panda was more mature than Roxie. Roxie is a pure play monkey.
But just like Panda she embraced motherhood and I have to say both really enjoyed having beings to care for. It tells you a lot about their giving nature.
Throughout this entire experience they never complained. They wanted to be with their pups and they smiled throughout the experience even when it was obvious they were exhausted. They relished the extra treats and food. They loved the massages and the snuggles but most of all they loved us ooohing and ahhhhing over their pups. I am lucky to have 2 first time moms that coddled, loved and taught the pups. I am also lucky to have a friend like Lynda that shares the Panda with us and loves the Roxie as if she is her own.
The moms even though they are first timers are starting to realize the pups no longer need to feed from them. They can explore and play and they don't have to be with them every second. It is a healthy transition. There is no mistake they adore them but they have watched other pups depart and they know. If we are lucky enough to have visits they will relish the play just like Spice still does when she sees her pups.
Will we do this again with Roxie and Panda - absolutely. I just adore these pups.
