Age Differences

Yes, 8.5 days makes a HUGE difference at 'this' stage but not at say 6 and 7 weeks. There is a significant amount of development between 4 to 6 weeks. Even confidence as they achieve increases each day. When you see them they will be 6 weeks and 4 days and 5 weeks and 3 days. They will be closer to each other but not quite the same yet. Add one more week and you won't see a difference and usually the younger ones have to perfect their skills to keep up with the older ones.

Then the next stage is when they learn how to socialize properly. Moms correct, siblings correct and they learn boundaries. They also learn bite inhibition. It's when we truly know if that quiet one will be quiet or that over the top dog will remain so. It's why 8 weeks is a gauge. This makes it ever so tough with 2 litters and having a choice between the two. It is something that weighs on me heavily as I do care that its the right home.

On the 20th I will have Paula and Tracy here to give me a perspective from eyes that are seeing them the first time. I will see if they see what I see.

More later....

Thank you so much for this explanation Darlah, especially since you are so ill. You probably wrote all this when I was waiting for Patches to come home but I was grieving so from just losing my two babies in the same month, I wasn't concentrating. This time I am enjoying every bit of what you write. So totally interesting. But, please take care, a fever is nothing to play around with, as you know.
