Adele in Heat

We are doing progesterone on Monday. We will hear Tuesday morning if she is close or he has to head to Sudbury. Jeannie is in heat but not being bred. May be interesting as Adele may be prime when Nathan was supposed to be at a show and then there is Danielle but no show if she is prime then.

Leti is not in heat but we have been mulling over using Montuno instead of Truffie. Have not figured it out yet.

As soon as we know when and what day she was bred we can figure our estimated date of delivery. Gestation is 63 days from ovulation.

How exciting! So are you saying she'll be tested for the first time on Friday?

Actually after talking to our repro vet we are not testing her till Monday. Friday as I suspected will be too early.

I don't understand the comment "we will hear if she is close or if he has to head to Sudbury." Does that mean if she's close, you will use a side closer to home?

I have to hear the results - the reading. She may be close but not prime. If close and not prime say 6-8 we would do another test in 2 days. Ovulation takes place between 12 and 24 nmol/l. At the height of the surge you usually travel to get bred. If she comes in at 12 on her first test you don't know if she is going up or coming down. Coming down means. Going out.

First set of values is Canadian, second is US.
Anestrus: < 3 nmol/L (<0.9 ng/ml)
Late proestrus: 6 - 8 nmol/L (1.9 - 2.5 ng/ml)
LH surge: 8 - 12 nmol/L (2.5 - 3.8 ng/ml)
Ovulation: 12 - 24 nmol/L (3.8 - 7.5 ng/ml)
Diestrus/Pregnant: >6 nmol/L (> 1.9 ng/ml)

I had one sit at 3 for 10 days then surge overnight. You do progesterone every 2 days to avoid missing the ovulation. We are waiting till day 7. Of course if suddenly the boys are going nuts then we may have to test on Friday. But we have Jeannie that came in 4 days before Adele and they may be reacting to her. Truffie is no longer eating and Kat is really cranky.

I hate progesterone. It is costly as you rarely catch it the first time and may not catch it till the 5th time. Adele will be an expensive cost between testing, progesterone, stud fees etc so I am hoping she has stunning pups.

It is so exciting for me to be able to share the mating process. Adele is a beauty and I can't wait to see her pups. Thanks for explaining it all Darlah. You have so much patience.
