3 Days Old Tonight
This is one of the gals. They will be 3 days old tonight. They are continuing to gain well. Even entering a full day 3, you can now see their body filling out.
We had an issue last night with the heat lamp but I got one going this morning. Last night Dennis kept the door closed to keep it toasty in here. We have to figure out Spirits. The ones we have are from the states and are expensive. So, I had 2 without the metal around it and with just a clamp and it is working fine. We can use the other in Spirit's xpen. Dennis was concerned it may fall so I secured it all over the place to make that impossible. They need the heat lamp till their body can regulate on their own - about 3 weeks. Just a blip.
Sage still has loose bowels so I have to wash her and dry each time she goes. Today no washing. This usually lasts about a week. Hers seems to be resolving quickly.
She is so attentive despite getting out to eat or go do her duty and makes sure they are taken care of first.
I will be uploading videos shortly.
The pups are so great at finding their way to the milk bar.

Sage is an amazing mom :)
Yes, Sage is a wonderful mom. I am on a list of breeders - private to breeders and I can't begin to tell you the number of people that are afraid to have pups in the same room as they have experienced mothers attacking other mother's pups and killing them. I got attacked as I said it does not happen here and they said well I thought it wouldn't happen to me and it did so you are taking chances. I do not take chances. I know my moms. Each of my moms will gladly feed the pups even if they did not birth them. The mothers help each other and teach each other's pups. If I saw an intolerance to a pup early on before they became moms, I would see it as a sign they were not meant to be moms. Besides moms that show aggression or intolerance teach their pups to react the same. That is certainly not what I want. I have truly outstanding moms and Sage is one. She is also so very happy as she smiles and smiles at those pups. It's as if she is saying to me - look what I did - aren't they wonderful. Nathan, each day says to her, Sage let me see your puppies and she lifts her leg so he can look. It is a riot! She is the only one who does that.
I want to add that raven after surgery, drugged up and hurting came home to look for her pups even after being spayed. Misty, a first time mom fed those pups like they were her own and then said okay I did a great job giving them a headstart - now they are back to you, Raven. It says a lot about our girls.
I can’t believe she lifts her leg to show Nathan her pups! That’s amazing and adorable
I have to catch it on video. It is a riot.
Darlah, I just watched some of the videos and I am in awe of how manage all the pups, moms and visitors all at once and at all hours of the day. Truly a happy, warm, all accepting family place which is why we love the Talemaker family. Sage's pups are gorgeous and thriving. We look forward to seeing Spirit this week...fingers crossed!
