9 Days Old

Here is the gallery.

This crew has squinty eyes. That is the 1st sign that they will open their eyes soon. It usually occurs 10 days on but some do not open till day 21. It all depends and it has nothing to do with anything but when it is time, it is time. Until then, they can only smell and feel. They can't hear or see. When the eyes open the hearing also begins. They have all the senses they need at this stage as they can find mom without any issue. They will also find the heat if cold. You will often find them dispersed if warm and cuddled together if cool. They also like to cuddle just for the togetherness factor. But watching positions is an indicator of their needs.

We have heatlamps that are regulated. When they drop below a certain point they turn on and when they reach the top amount they shut down. This was thanks to Dennis who figured out how to automate the temperature. Far cry from when we had our 1st litter. Each year you find a way to help the pups more and make life easier.

This crew is gaining well. The 2 last pups remain the smallest. That is usually an indicator that they will be small. Time will tell.

Videos can be found here.
