Second Eyes Open

Since this morning, puppy 3 has had his yies open. I finally got Dennis to take photos with me. He just woke up from his sleep.

It was a challenge to take photos of this one as he was so active. Finally I held him and Dennis clicked while he stayed still. Guess je is used to me holding him.

Day 11 2 Blog Day Eyes Open

Can you believe both litters started opening their eyes early on day 11. Misty's, her 2nd born opened his eyes first. Sage's 2nd born opened his eyes above and 1st too.

11 Days Old

Sage's crew are doing things their own way. A couple are trying to walk even though their eyes are not open. You may see it in the videos. I think I captured it a couple of times.

Usually they open their eyes and then try to walk. I suspect this crew will start opening their eyes soon.

I suspect as soon as their eyes are open they will be on the same path as the Misty crew in new milestones. There are only 3 days different in age.

Let me look at weights between them. I have not taken them tonight but I can check day 11 with day 11 Misty crew. It looks like a few are larger than Sage's crew and a few are the same size. Good weights on all at day 11.

10 Days Old

Pups are 10 days old already. Seems like yesterday.

9 Days Old

Pup are growing and doing well. Sage feeds them every hour and a half which may be too much but I let moms figure it out and pups will start crying when hungry or too hot or too cold.

I spend a great deal of time handling each pup many times a day. I want them to be used to a human touch. There is a method to my madness. The goal is to help them be all they are meant to be and truly understand that the right humans are amazing companions. They will love them like I do.

Maybe if they are on track with Misty's pups in a few days you may see eyes open but it is early even for Misty's pups. they open when it is the right time.

8 days Old

Does it seem to be 8 days ago? It does not to me. They are 1/3 of the way till 3 weeks when my load gets a bit lighter and then at 4 weeks going out to play, it gets busy again.

This is how the day goes at this stage.

Dennis does night duty. At 7 we wake up and I immediately weigh, chart, change blankets and make sure moms feed. I also take videos, photos etc, I then try to upload the videos, start teh laundry and comb out moms. I also try to drink coffee and a blueberry muffin. Lots of coffee helps. LOL I also take videos each time I wake up during the night.

If a puppy is crying, I am running even when I am grooming. The dog gets placed down, I go check and then back to grooming.

Pups are a lot of work if you do it right.

As you can see, Sage is mighty happy. They get extra meals, treats and massages too. They deserve it.

1 Week Old

I just can't put up the weights today in a chart like I did for Misty as it takes so much time but I will tell you that the weights now are 11-7/8oz for 1st born, 11oz for 2nd born, 12-6/8oz for 3rd born and 10-3/8oz for 4th born. They are gaining nicely,

Pups are quite active and Ms. Sage is a wonderful mom but she also wants Misty's pups.

6 Days Old

Pups are getting interactive at times. It is amazing with eyes closed that they do so. Some like to use each other as pillows. Another just likes to laze under the heat lamp and or cuddle into a blanket.

5 Days Old

Sorry, we are short blogging today. Pups are doing well. Last night I am sure you noticed in one of the videos a pup climbing over mom to reach a milkstation then falling down. He wasn't hurt. He was determined. They all gained a good weight overnight. Soon, I will be weighing them again after I finish the blogs.

It doesn't feel like 5 days. Does it to you?

4 Days Old

This boy often sleeps like this on mom in some position or another. I think he likes the feel and warmth and Sage will stay real still allowing him to sleep.

The videos will be found here. I am late getting them up as I have not been able to get to them yet.

The pups weights I will get up at one week but they range from 8-2/8oz 237g to 10oz 284g. They are gaining nicely. They eat, they sleep and mom cause she is carrying so much milk does go in to feed them often to gain relief. The back milk stations without antibiotics is doing well. We stopped them as Sage was getting an upset tummy and it was already clearing up. We caught it early. It happens a great deal when moms have enough milk to feed 10 and she only has 4. Over the days, her milk will reduce to the needs of the pups.

Sage is a happy gal but needs more sleep. Pups move from one place to the next. I do notice they really appreciate soft.
