Nesting But That's All

She kept me up all night nesting and she is doing the same this morning. We shall see how this progresses.

Here is a video.

Leti is in heat and she is trying to take over. Not sure what to do with Leti as she doesn't get - leave me alone.

I have now blocked a crate as Connamon was hiding in there. Not a place for her to have puppies.

When will that be? Could be anytime within 12-24 hours.

I am so tired.

Cinnamon seems so happy with her tail waggling as she is preparing her birthplace

My Katie always does this and she is spayed. Is that normal behaviour?
Hope you get in a quick nap today. Get Nathan to watch the dogs, You are both going to need some sleep.
Is Leti being breed this time? Or are you just keeping her separate while she drives you crazy.

Cinnamon has such a cute face. Marilyne, both Spicy and Cooper do the "nesting" thing, all the time, albeit not the way mommies-to-be do it, but they love to mess up their blankets and nest in them . Spicy more than Cooper. We have blankets on our couches just for that purpose LOL!

Bed-scratching is a natural instinct. The nesting ritual can be performed by male and female dogs but a female preparing to have puppies will have a greater need to make her nest and be ready for the arrival of her litter. She will be obsessive about it and try to look for a place that is safe for her pups. On appearance it may seem the same but it isn't. If your dog will partake for hours, it is not natural unless she is having pups. For instance Cinnamon did this ALL NIGHT long with 5 or 10 minute breaks. Generally, nesting behavior is harmless and endearing. It is your dog’s way of winding down before a nap. Fluffing up the blankets and rearranging the bedding before flopping down into a relaxed pose. If your dog does this for hours, you may want to consider a vet appt to check hormone levels.

Leti is in here as she is in heat. Breeding or not breeding you must keep them out of general population for 3 weeks or actually she can hang out with the girls. Right now she is taking a nap with Nathan.

That's a good description Darlah of what they do, it's mostly fluffing up pillows and blankets for a minute or two then they flop. Very cute to watch though and a nice way for them to mess up their top knots :-)

Oh Anne, I agree with your statement "messing up their top knot". They seem to enjoy the messy look while the humans want a "brushed" look.

Thanks for all your answers. Katie does do it for a few minutes and then goes across the room and flops. It can be hard on the carpet and she loves to pull my blanket off if I am watching TV on the chair. Her top knot can be brushed a hundred times a day. Finally gave up and I am using clips as they are easier to take out and put in. She will sometimes come to "see" me with her eyes covered up looking for a fix and then goes back and messes that hair up all over again.
Darlah, you are so right about Cinnamon's cute face. I just love looking at her pictures. If you have an extra puppy from her litter, I am available to fly in and pick it up. ; )
How do you insert smiley faces etc into these posts?????
