What's a Day Like?

Risa had a bath today

I got up at 7am this morning, helped get food out for the dogs. I changed all the water bowls cleaning before putting fresh ones down. Occasionally Dennis cleans them the night before and leaves them on the counter.

Then Dennis or Nathan goes out with the dogs after they are done eating and I start my exercise. If one is not available I go out and we always cleanup on site.

Then I either go take a shower or I start grooming. Today I took a shower first, groomed everyone but Logan and Panda who gets done in a few minutes before going home.

I also washed Risa and Shoshi today. While I am grooming/washing, Dennis or Nathan is doing pups, dogs, playing, cleaning etc.

Inbetween grooming I am transfering or folding laundry.

Shoshi had a bath todayI take photos throughout the day. I clean the puppy pen. We clean floors, counters and what have you.

I take the pups out to play now twice a day, soon 3 times then 4 to 5 times a day. We condition and socialize them.

I eat somewhere inbetween things. I also resize photos, do blogs, transfer videos and play with the pups in their pen.

I know I forgot a bunch but I am just giving you an idea of what we do. We also take dogs for walks, play retreive, cuddle and train.

I had someone ping me and posted on Facebook as I hadn't responded to her fast enough. Well, the dogs count more than anything and I fit computer time in when I can.

I do believe I have my priorities right.

Then at bedtime they all go out one last time. I cleanup the pen and get it ready for the morning so pups can come down into a clean environment. Before bedtime the upstairs gets cleaned and sterilized.

Now off to clean and brush Panda and Logan.

PS: What do you think about Shoshi's whites and blacks? I tried this booster that you add to the shampoo - any shampoo. It's not cheap but you can add it to any shampoo and so far I like the results. The blacks look blacker and the whites look whiter. Now how did it do that? I don't know but I am impressed. Waiting for the apricot version to come in to see what happens with that.

Wow, I ahve never seen Shoshi immediately after a grooming she looks great.
She also looks like she may be waiting for her reward.

The ladies look lovely and I'm overwhelmed just reading all the things you , Nathan and Dennis do! But all the efforts are certainly evident in the happy, healthy, and great looking pups and adult dogs! Definitely a labour of love for all.

Kathy: Reread what I wrote at the end. I just added to the post. I tried a new product and I rather like it.

Gerda: I know I forgot many things - hahahaha

Wow !!! You make me feel lazy !!! Both dogs look beautiful. I need to learn how to groom better. I would love to see Colby look like that. I do have his hair cut shorter though. I do love it longer but find it difficult to manage. I wish I didn't work full time. Would love to spend more time with Colby and his future buddy. I am glad Mark does not work full time and my Son Brian is also available so Colby does get lots of attention. I guess I am jealous. LOL. I don't know how you do all that you do. I do know that you love your dogs "mega"! Take Care of yourself. Keep up the exercise program. Sounds like your doing great.

Jane: Every now and then I wish I could feel like I could be lazy. :-)

Shoshi has the coat from hell. Over the years I have figured out how to groom due to that coat. Grooming is just being thorough, taking chances and learning and line combing. The more you do, the more you learn. When I wash the dogs I do their ears, their pads, their nails and I make sure they have no knots by going line by line through the coat with a fine tooth comb and when finding a knot, I pull it apart. I used mink oil in the conditioner and I am interested in seeing how long between baths. It did help Shoshi's hair. Risa's feels soft but in her case I think I could have used a tad less. Time will tell. Her hair looks flatter. It's how you learn trying and adjusting.

The grooming does look lovely Darlah! Re the booster - I can't tell from the photo, but does it leave the hair more shiny? If so, I can see more shine reflecting a brighter coat in the darks and whites and all colours really. If not, I have no idea, but if it works - go for it! :-) I love learning from all you do and try w/ the grooming.

What's this new product called? The girls look great!

Wow, what a lot to do. Being a very good breeder really takes a lot of time and effort from the whole family. Risa looks like the "Grand Dame", she is!! Shoshi's coat does not look so out of control today. Her coat is unbelievable. I just love the clarity of the colours. She reminds me of a teenager telling mom, Okay now I get the car (or treat). Can hardly wait to find out what the magic product is called. I use a whitener on Katie but it drys out her coat. In winter it is even worse. What kind of mink oil do you use? Do you suppose it would help Katie's flyaway hair?

Marilyne: I use http://www.petempire.ca/124-2118724-29118729/pets/products/90376716?fs=true ISB Mink Oil. I added a half of a teaspoon into 12 ounces of conditioner and only used a portion of the conditioner. You can also use it by running a drop into your hands and pulling it through the hair. The hair stuff was http://www.petempire.ca/124-2118724-29118729/pets/products/90376694?fs=true and I used 15 drops in a 20 ounce bottle of shampoo. I am waiting for the copper to come in to try it on the apricot gals. It doesn't change the colour but revitalizes it and brings back the natural colour damaged by sun etc. I tried it on Kat and his silver went deeper in colour. I want to try the gloss and am trying to get him to give me a sample as it is pricey as all the Iv San Bernard stuff is. <sigh> I love pek from them too as it gets out mats easily.

Alyssa: I will have to give you a few drops to add to your shampoo. :-) We get to see you then. :-)

Dariah
Anytime you would like a hand with grooming, let me know. I could come down and help- watch -learn. Probably not in that order..lol. I would love to see how it is done by an expert. I did watch your video once on a PC but I have a MAC and can not watch it for some reason. Do you any pet stores in the Barrie area that carries the shampoo, conditioner, and oil you mentioned???
Take Care

Jane

I would love to bring Mia by one of these days... Do you think we'll have time before the puppies?

January 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAlyssa C

stella has that same sweet smile, just like her grandma !

January 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentervalerie

Jane: Thank you for offering. I may take you up on it one day. My daughter who has a grooming business in North Carolina did 14 dogs yesterday. I think she is superhuman. Of course she is shaving etc but still 14 dogs in a day of baths, cutting/shaving and blow drying - yikes!

January 26, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Alyssa: Will be in touch. I would like that. Have to look at the schedule and Nathan is sitting at the mechanics as I type. Need him to give me his schedule before I can commit to anything.

January 26, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Wow, Shoshi looks great! I know you say she's the one with the permanent bad hair day, but she looks picture perfect here! I love the results of the booster.

Lori: Yes nice of a product to work.
