Burning Hot
It's so hot that Daisy just jumped on the stairs, jumped on the chair all to make sure she got my towels wet. I need to learn to hang up the towels. hahahaha
It's nice to see Daisy letting loose and doing the run like hey game. Get her wet and it happens every time.
She's been playing her heart out and crashing.
Dexter goes home tomorrow after a bath. Nathan was or is very sick so he's been in bed most of the day. No swimming for him so Dennis helped me get the dawgs in so I could snap a couple.
I could have said I couldn't but the dawgs needs fun even if we don't feel up to it. I am still congested but better than Nathan and Dennis is well.
Dexter, Charlie, Benji, Roxie and Spice have been playing up a storm. Unfortunately Teaser is in heat and will be bred and go back to Paula's for her last litter and Panda has her first heat (not Roxie yet) so she will be hanging out segregated for the 3 weeks. It's okay. How we do it is interesting. The gals in heat get placed with some of the other gals. The boys and some of the non heat gals are out with Dennis and the we switch people and dogs so they get to be in different places and outside and with both of us. With Nathan so sick its our working solution. When he is better we have all 3 till heat is done. We do it without even thinking.
I had the crew playing retreive in my office and we were having a total blast. I believe in the gals not feeling isolated just because they are in heat. That wouldn't be fair if you did that so we make sure the only change is they are not with the boys.
If Nathan is better tomorrow or Monday we will get Panda and Teaser swimming. We shall see.
We had plans to check out Shane Baghai's Paradise Cafe. I wanted one of their Steak sandwiches with their onion rings. Oh well, another day maybe after Fiona has pups or maybe I will take her with me and check it out Monday or Tuesday and do takeout. We shall see. It depends on how Nathan is.
When pups come I go no where.
Here are a few photos plus Envy's (someone else took that one). Dennis hates when I click him so many I had a tough time getting photos without an arm or something in the way. I am the same way so I get it.
Yes, Charlie and Dexter are apricot sables and Benji is a brown sable with apricot overtones but right now I am calling them the sable boys and they are having so much fun its exhausting watching how they can go, go, go.
I just finished grooming all swimmers again. I brush when wet, let them dry and brush again.
Tomorrow it will be down to Charlie and Benji and then just Benji but that's okay as Benji plays with Roxie and Spice in a big way. But we won't hear those loud runs back and forth inside and out like we do from 3 boys. Every now and then Risa and Daisy say ENOUGH boys. It's so funny.
Hope the rest of you are having a great holiday weekend. I can't believe tomorrow is July 1st already.

I love the coloring on Envy! It's so different...
Wonderful to see Envoy .. he is as gorgeous as ever ... love the colours!
Happy Canada to everyone
Even though Benji is a chocolate, he looks a lot like Laci. I can't believe how long her hair has gotten. (Looks like Benji's had a hair cut and it looks nice!) She got a good brushing and combing today and I'm waiting for her to get "tired" so I can put her top knot up. It's never easy and I hope soon she'll sit still for it. It's so long, it really must be put up. She's not due for her 2nd groom in over a week. This one will be the "nervous" one as I will ask her to trim just a tad.
I didn't realize Teaser was going home for this litter. Who will she be bred to? Are you breeding Spice? Am I remembering right that you were thinking of breeding her to Truffie? Do you let the 1st heat go by and think about breeding the 2nd heat . . . specifically thinking about Panda and Roxie.
I love Envy's colouring, so unique....I don't even know what colour to call it.
Scruffy's hair is getting so long, we need a cut soon because we are having a hard time maintaining it for him....I notice he's getting a lot more knotting lately.
He's getting better with his grooming though, much more patient with me. He and I worked it out. He told me what he dislikes and we found a compromise :-)
He still hates having his top knot done, so I agree with you Debi, it's best to do it when he's puckered out.
Lori! I'm just happy when I get the elastic in. Every time I'm on the last turn of the elastic, Laci moves and it doesn't go all the way down right, but I make do w/ what it is b/c I've learned that the more and harder I try, the harder and worse it gets. At least her hair is out of her eyes. LOL
Darlah - I showed Doug the photos of Kat diving off the side of the pool and he said, "That's what Laci will be doing!" I told him it's not so easy as he's the only one while the others go off their floats. He maintains that she will. I have to say, she dives much like Kat, so who knows. I'll leave this little project up to Doug! :-) She was in and out of the pool all day yesterday and I assume today will be much the same. Glad you're enjoying yours. And Nathan - Get well soon!
HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!
Lori: He is a Brindle. He sports a black drape over his sable texture. It's our first brindle. They will notice him in the ring if he performs well. Mugs also has brindle in his line and chocolate so it is going to be a huge surprise with the Fiona pups. That's what is special about the havanese. But I will tell you in the ring there is nothing more striking than a well marked black and white as it attracts the eye. Me, I like the apricots and blacks and black and tans, silvers - not blues - hahahaas well. I rather like them all. Everyone is attracted to colour but at the end of the day its about the personality.
Debi: You know how Kat learned to jump like that? We went to a dock diving event. I didn't even think he was looking. He came home, ran down the walkway and jumped in. I think he learned by just watching. This season he was lazy jumping in without much gusto just diving close. Since we had that heatwave he jumped in about 30 times in a day and each time it was as if he was testing himself jumping further. Yesterday he made it 3/4 the way across the pool so about 11 to 12 feet. I noticed he does challenge himself. It's a riot to actually watch as it is a love for him. That cover comes off and he shakes with excitement. He was miffed when we had the empty hole. He gets over the top excited when Nathan has his trunks on. I haven't seen another Havanese jump in - swim yes, not jump in from the side so if Doug can teach her I will be excited and I want the video. I have been waiting for that passion like Kat's. I would LOVE to have another like Kat and we could have real fun with that but no one quite has it in my crew like him. Keep hoping... I am satisfied that they all swim and some do jump off floats and stairs.
Roxie ducks her whole face in and soaks herself and jumps off the stairs and the float but not the side. Fiona jumps off the side on rare occasions. You are sitting there and she decides to do it but then won't for weeks. It drives me crazy as I can never catch her in action with the camera. But she is a strong, confident swimmer and stays in not just swims out as some do.
I am truly looking forward to hearing another Talemaker pup has the dock diving passion. Me, I will keep trying with the pups and if I find one, I may have to keep it. hahahahaha Can you imagine catching two dogs on camera jumping in at the same time? Such fun!
Nathan is a tad better after sleeping about 23 hours. Me, I am totally congested but I am swimming even if I am dying. I paid for this liner with hard work and I am going to swim till the end of September - or try...hahahaha Besides this heat may do me good if I don't burn.
Happy Canada Day everyone. Isn't it great to have the stores open today?
Today we try to get Teaser and Panda swimming. Off to put the tops on the popups up and put the umbrellas up. Got invited on a boat with my daughter - a stunning one with grand food but can't leave Nathan so pool it is.
Lori: Maybe I can show you on Thursday. :-)
Benji is not a chocolate and his mom cut his hair over a weeks time. She will be letting it grow out I hear when she returns. She cut it as he was staying with friends while they are in Australia - a planned trip before acquiring the Benji. But instead he ended up here as the friends were too busy and I could have maintained the long coat. Things happen for a reason, I suppose. She got to try her hand at the scissors. They are gone for a month then Benji is flying out to see them I believe in Calgary then coming back a week or 2 later. He is having a great summer holiday. He plays with everyone. Afraid of nothing. Adapts to everything and plays and plays and then falls fast asleep I swear with one eye open wondering what he is missing and when he appears to be totally fast asleep, someone plays near him and he is up fast to get in the middle of it. He doesn't seem to want to miss a thing. We now purposely give them all timeouts together where we watch TV just so they can regroup and snooze. I think Benji likes that but feels he misses too much by taking a nap while others play. hehe
PS: Today he got Shoshi to play full out jumping with him. He's a gem as no one gets her at her age playing like a fool. Good one, Benji.
I noticed that Benji's trunk was short(ish) but his head looks good. If this was his Mom's 1st try, I think she did a great job. I too like them a little longer which is why I think it may be easier to maintain a certain length, rather than have someone cut them short in order to grow out. Doug gets a kick out of Laci's little trott as her long hair bounces w/ each step. He says there's no doubt she thinks she "owns" the street as she prances w/ purpose.
Darlah - if Doug gets Laci diving off the side of the pool, I promise you can have the video! :-)
Well, I should be busy doing something since I've had umpteen phone calls w/ people saying they're dropping by and one who intends to have a BQ here for lunch! LOL Hope they know how to work our BQ!
Happy Canada Day!!!! Envy looks great. I love seeing the changes. They look so different when their hair starts to grow out. Brie will not let me put her hair up. Takes me to long. It is hard because my hands are so big and her hair is just a little bit to short for me to get a hold of. The groomer can do it but her hands are much smaller than mine. I will keep trying. I miss seeing her beautiful eyes. Brie is starting to chase butterflies an birds. Sooooo funny.
Jane, Laci loves to chase all things as well. She loves to run after the birds, the chipmunks and she tends to follow bees which makes me nervous. As does happen to Darlah for a memorable occasion, there's been a couple of times that a big fuzzy bee will be on one of my colourful flowers and she will nose up to it, but when I get the camera the moment is over. Good thing we have our memories to hold on to . . . at least for now! :-)
Our company has left and it was nice to have people tell us what a lovely puppy we have and how much they enjoy her pleasing personality! She is just a lovee to everyone!
