Show Update & More

Exhausted from 3 days of ShowsAdele got best puppy today. Cali got 1st as she has all weekend behind Muntuno. He won his class. Cali came in right after him. He also won group and will go for best baby puppy in show late today. They went home and will go back. Nathan will be coming home as he is not showing for 5 hours again. Jeannie lost.

See what I said about getting up at 4am? Murphy's law. But Adele did get puppy. Muntuno did win and Nathan is on his way home. Then they get to do it again next weekend. Me, I am off to brush dogs. Daisy has leaves in her and so does Risa from their romp in the garden this morning. Brr is it cold. Maybe photos today and I get to work on the class photos. Here is hoping!

Dusty is washed and awaiting her Daddy to pick her up and Lynda is visiting around noon.

Hi, Congratulations to the babies, its full on days for ones so little.
Poor Jeannie, I love her, she is very beautiful and wins every-time for me.
Can I just ask, my havanese has matts in her front legs from wet weather and twigs and crumbly leaves, what's the best way to get them out please? Should I clip the hair down?
Thank You

Susan: It depends on how bad the mats are and what tools you have. If she has thick hair you can cut through the center of the mat and pull it apart. It helps to have a dentangling solution. If they are very dense you are best shaving down as it will be too hard on the dog. This option allows you to start anew.

Sweet photo of Jeannie.

Good going everyone on your rewards and efforts!

Congrats to all! Such effort , grooming and training.
P.S. Not Molly having the mats.

Everyone deserves a round of applause, including Nathan and Darlah. Well done puppies. Just love this picture of tired Jeannie! Love it!

love Jeannie
thank you,
I use a comb, long pin brush and cowboy magic.
this is my worst nightmare, only front legs are really difficult to get the bits out of, the back ones are a little matted by the heel but that is easy out and the rest, body head an all is completely matt free.
I will have to watch your vid again, it can only help.

I'm confused. Why does Kat have to be exhausted for there to be a connection?

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

Kat is trying. Roxie is making him chase, dance and do what have you and he is trying to catch her. Kat is exhausted as he is not able to catch her. :-)

Susan: Do you have a method to take the mats out that works for you?

December 8, 2013 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Oh! Does she not want to because it's her first time? When they're in heat, do they normally want to? Or is the "courting" just a normal part of it (asks the person with no dog mating knowledge! lol).

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

Beautiful very tired Jeannie. This picture melts my heart.

Congrats to all who participated in these wins for the rookies. It must be a lot of work.

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKathy & Kona

It is individual. Some first timers do not want to the first time. Roxie seems receptive. The dance is part of it. The girl ultimately controls it. Right now I think its just a tad early and she is enjoying the attention without getting caught. We are on day 9. The boy usually knows when it is time especially an experience one. They will still connect before but then they drive you crazy when it truly is time. Heats last 21 days.

December 8, 2013 | Registered CommenterDarlah

This is fascinating. So there's a point during the heat when they're more fertile or they're fertile for the whole 21 days?

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

It is thenTalemaker Campqign at its best - win some, lose some. BUT absolutely know that, in truth and in fact, they are true winners. It may be that the coatis two weeks away from perfection (Cali), or not just ready yet (Watch Out world Adele..'cause I'm a coming!) . These are wonderful dogs with caring, intelligent breeders standing behind each dog. So, if not now, watch out for WHEN!!!!

I assume Truffie is no where near Roxie? Didn't realize that the "girl" is in control. I agree with Shannon, it is fascinating!

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnne Duncan

Here's a silly question: would it get to a point where you "encourage" the mating?

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnne Duncan

Agree with everyone above! I don't think I have ever seen Jeannie looking so tired. Congrats to Montuno, Adele and Cali.

The mating process is fascinating! I had no idea there was a courting thing that went on, that timing had to be right before connection happened and that it could last 21 days. Interesting.

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSylvia

Congratulations to everyone! Lots of hard work on everyone's part but well worth it. Jeannie gets prettier every day. It won't be long before he gets her win.

December 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLori

Darlah: my usual method for de-matting isn't working on the front legs anymore, its like different dogs legs have sprung from nowhere. She's 5 bless her and has a lovely coat but she will have bald legs if I clip.
I don't want to wash till the matting is gone and I think too much cowboy isn't helping.

Is Roxie a tease at the moment? The whole process of breeding is fascinating I agree with the ladies.
