Still Raining Off and On

Still raining a fair bit today so instead of photos of everyone, I will do a photo of Kona who came for a bath and is now home and Levon that came for a bath and is now home. Neither would cooperate with staged shots - what are those and you don't do those. Well, I don't but I tried today and the dawgs would just not look the right way, stay nicely brushed or anything I wanted. hahahahaha

Kona has shiny, shiny hair. I used panegenics - no show sheen and look at his shine. His hair seems to work with this conditioner/shampoo and spray condioner combo. You use the conditioner first - yes, you have that right.

I was attempting to get a side view standing pose - yeah right.

I think Kona was LAUGHING at me here.

I settled for this pose.

Then came Levon's bath done right after Kona.

My goal was to get Levon to look at me.

Tail wagging but wasn't happy about the photo taking.

Then no matter what I do, I got poses like this. I even acted silly.

So, I settled for this.

They are both cute despite the fact that this human wanted to pose them and they thought I had to have lost my mind. Both were too interested in playing vs. posing and can you blame them?

Now it's Chases's turn for a bath and off she goes. Do you think she will be any better? Stay tuned!

Oh and the dogs have decided they had enough of the rain especially Oscar who prefers the recliner. Me too! But off to groom Chase.

Here is Chase after her bath waiting for mom and dad. She's not going out again as it is raining. She was more than fine for the bath but everyone wants to play vs. taking these silly photos.

This was a nice pose - good one, Chase!

This was her - you got to be kidding look.

In case you missed it....

Just because... heheheheh Can I be messy when I go home?

It is pouring rain and Oscar is soaking up the wet on the recliner staying nice and warm. He's getting blowed dried next so he can be warm and cozy. It's wet and grimy out there.

He adores this chair and the blankets we put on it so they can snuggle. He's waiting for Nathan to climb in and join him as he does.

I love the smiling Kona photos!

I usually hold a treat up in front of Levon to get him to look at me. He has his price. lol.
His coat is so soft right now - thanks!

Shannon - no amount of bribing would work. You see I held a treat and he got so close I couldn't click. I was too worried about missing the moment and goin to change lenses. :-)

Just a funny day as Nathan is usually here so we can have someone treat and someone click. Instead he was doing an emergency passport as his was about to expire.

That's my little boy! Thanks for the update.

kona's coat is simply beautiful, so silky and soft looking. How old is Kona? I'm curious as he doesnt't seem to have been trimmed and his coat looks long, like Cooper's who is 22 months and never been trimmed.. Lovely coat Kona!

If I am right as this is out of my head Kona was born April 14, 2011. It means Kona, Sophie and Ty in 6 days will be 2 years old. Wow and I hear tell he will be in the sunshine for his birthday!

Kathy: I am glad you like his coat. I truly like the feel of this conditioner/shampoo on him and used it on Treasure so I thought it may do a good job for him. I love the feel of his coat. He's such a great boy for the bath too!

Enjoy your holiday (safe air travel with Kona) and if you aren't getting online when you are there happy early birthday to Kona!

Abi: He's such a love - adores a great snuggle at tv time too. He's a boy who LOVES comfort and I rather like that!

Shannon: Thanks.... love when they are freshly bathed. Makes you want to cuddle with them even more and boy he needed a bath after the mud outside today.

Chase had the best weekend!!! She is so clean, so well brushed, so fluffy and smells great, despite the rain. We thank you so much Nathan and Darlah. The next time you see Chase, hopefully she'll know her recall command. We love the pictures that you post.

Darlah, where to you get the panegenics? Sounds like it works well.

Such beautiful photos of all of them. I agree, Kona's coat looks fantastic.

The panegenics works well on Treasure type coats. I am not pleased with what it does with Wasabi's coat. Though today I am going to try it on Spice to see how it does on her ratted coat. :-) I get it from Just Gifted out west. I love the grooming spray and you can get it at Just Gifted too. My last 2 bottles a friend (Chinook and Breeze's parents) got some for me from the states where it is cheaper. I love the grooming spray - the shampoo/conditioner despite what Eric Salas says does not work well on all coats. You condition the coat first and then shampoo it with minimal amounts. I have tried it for well over a year and stopped using it except on Treasure and decided to give it a try on Kona. It works well on his coat that leas more towards the oily type than dry much like Treasures. google panegenics directions or instructions and you will see all sorts of videos - no havanese but a long coated cavalier who is a show dog that she washes every 4 days - oy. Yep could get it mat free washing it that much. Though she says hers was on day 5 and that's why it had mats. :-)

Jodi: Just keep practicing and she will 'get' it. Recall is so important. Glad you like the feel of her coat. She has a nice coat to work with.

What beautiful dogs, every one. Love Kona's long coat. If Kona and Treasure have more oily coats, what do you use on coats that are dryer? Katie's coat tends to be dry and flyaway after her bath even with conditioner.

Are you using grooming spray each time you brush? If so, what kind? What shampoo/conditioner are you using?

April 9, 2013 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Kona looks so good with the Panegenics conditioner/shampoo, such a handsome Havanese. I have used the Panegenics on both Breeze and Chinook, but also use the Pure Paws shampoo and conditioner, but the Panegenics does work better on Chinook's coat than Breeze's, but they do both love the massaging of it and for in between baths I find it works well for them both! But I do so love the Panegenics Grooming Spray, it is the best for getting out mats, and keeping their coats looking great!

We had a good rain tonight, but nothing like you have had in Toronto!
Nothing like mud and Havanese!

Darlah, Scruffs gets flyaways too. I'm still using the spray you gave us with Pepper and I'm using pure paws for shampoo/conditioner. He really has always had dry hair.

April 9, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLori

Darlah, I use Isle of Dogs shampoo, conditioner and grooming spray. She also gets salmon oil on her dinner. Maybe I just don't brush her enough. She hates it so much she will not go down the basement with me to watch TV as she thinks I will brush her. I must admit I pulled her hair a few times when I started and she has a memory that does not forget. So now I just get discouraged sometimes and don't brush her often enough.

April 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMarilyne

Marilyne: If you brush her daily you won't find any knots or you will find hardly any. It will make for better conditioning and after a bit of that she won't mind the brush. They do mind you getting out knots especially if they are solid knots. You have to be so gentle or cut through them. There is dematting spray that work rather well but the only way you will get her to tolerate or enjoy it is to brush her enough that she doesn't knot up so she replaces those good grooming sessions with the ones she wasn't crazy about. Does that make sense?

At the end reward her with something really good.

Or cut her very short so all you are dealing with is a tail and ears.

The dryer the hair the easier it knots, unfortunately so which conditioner (#) are you using?

Imagine you got a perm. Your hair dries out from the chemicals and you do it every 5 months or so - eventually unless you deep conditioned it you would have very dry - easily knottable hair. I tell you this as damaged or dry hair knots so you understand why it is doing what it is.

If her hair is dry I would use the Panegenics spray. It not only coats the hair but it truly conditions it and its great for the skin. Works well on our hair too. :-) I like it better than the Isle of Dogs Grooming spray. I actually like OMG better than the Isle of Dogs grooming spray. Where Isle shines is their shampoo and conditioner.

Isle of Dogs is a good line.
