Yikes
Anyone know a source for fast SDHC cards? I have no photos as I have several unreadable. Dennis is still working on getting them off but its not looking hopeful. I know we use ours a great deal but do yours go too?
So no pretty photos today - sorry. I had some pretty spectacular with the visitors - of course - isn't that always the way? I am so miffed, I tell you. Teach me to use Nathan's camera. I could run around clicking photos now with mine but its not the photos I captured today and I thought I outdid myself. argh
Dogs are having a great deal of fun. Daisy doo has stopped trying to get wet in the pool. I may take her in tomorrow before she goes home. It depends on the weather. She needs a reward for being so persistent and giving me a break today.
Does anyone have an xpens they want to sell? Send me mail and I will connect you or post here. You can also drop them off here and I can show them to people and tell you when they are sold. It's up to you or you can do the Craigs list thing.
I am back looking for old blankets (large and baby), towels etc. If you are thinking of throwing out, think of me, please. I use them for the pups and dogs in a big way. I use them so much they end up shredding as we wash them a great deal.
The way the weather has been we are thinking of closing the pool earlier than later but I still want one swim with the pups so we shall see. We haven't set a date yet.
The furniture in the way worked like a charm. No mad dashes any longer. It controlled the excitement and barking but I think they look at me as if to say you also ruined the fun but we can have fun in good ways not bark, bark run like banshees and someone is bound to hurt themselves by doing this again and again. Sometimes you have to do the tough love thing. Why? Cause you truly love them and care about the possibilities.
Ear issues - am seeing them in the odd dog that is visiting and I think I have a grasp of it. If you are bringing your dogs swimming at the cottages you need to dry out their ears. Use an ear cleaner that has a drying agent or you are asking for serious ear infections. It's one of those things you forget about. Washing your dog? Remember to dry out their ear drums. I use an ear cleaner always with a drying agent and a soft cotton ball. Its something easily forgotten.
So instead of photos - well you got this - sorry!

Talk of ear infections reminded me I have some photos of Laci I've been meaning to send to you. I put her ears up in to a high ponytail. I used to do this w/ Tiffany since she was a daily swimmer and this helped her ears air dry. Now I use it on Laci when I groom since her long ear hair hangs in the way of her forearms causing me more problems getting to that area. Both Tiffany and Laci are very tolerant of the "ear ponytail" and as a matter of fact Tiffy seemed to like it. LOL Tia on the other hand would not keep it in and we had terrible problems w/ her ears due only to an over abundance of hair. Hot sweaty ears caused her great problems that weren't easy to prevent.
I've had issues w/ ear infections w/ Tia and my kids. A blow dryer on low is great at helping them to dry out.
I used to do that with Wasabi but you can't put the ponytail on the ear leather just on the hair. Some tend to stay wetter longer. I haven't quite figured out why but Wasabi does not like her ears blown at so that's an issue so I put hers back too. Drying agent in an ear cleaner works fast too. I think people forget the ears can get wet and stay wet. Wet ears equals yeast and that equals ear infections. Goldens are notorious for them but they get wet, have floppy ears and love soaking their heads.
Good tip, Deb.
I use those really thick scrungies that are no longer "en vogue." LOL I still use them myself not caring for style as they are so comfy.
Glad I don't have ear issues w/ Laci - knock knock on wood! :-)
Darlah what Is the name of a drying agent that you use in their ears when bathing or swimming ?
I only use cotton balls in Kona's ears while I am bathing him. Then I just take it out.
I have never used the blow dryer on his ears, only on the external hair.
Hi,I have an ear cleaner from the vet.i found it helped prevent ear infections.
Hi Darlah:
You can get some good SDHC cards at Canada Computers across from the Global Pet Foods near your house. They've got good prices and a decent selection.
SD (and flash in general) have a life cycle for writes, so they will go over time, especially if you're a prolific shooter (which you are).
Mine don't seem to last - rather irritating to have many go at once. Only had the one in my video camera work. When I say don't last - well they last for a year or two. to go all at once is irritating.
Darlah, when you say you are seeing ear issues do you mean actual infections or something else? We are pretty careful with Scruffy and Pepper and they havent had any infections but are we supposed to be watching out for other things?
Lori: I mean I am seeing ear infections. The ones that I am seeing now and treating is due to lake swimming for the week. Who thinks that a lake is an issue. It's not something you think about or know about unless you have had dogs with an issue. It isn't usually an issue unless you don't dry out the ears. The pool less so especially with salt as salt is a natural drying agent that tends to soothe and help vs. hinder any sensitivity. But you should still use a 100% cotton ball to dry out the ear after a swim.
I use Mystic Ear Cleaner. I usually stay away from alcohol based products as it can irritate the already sensitive ear but in some cases as in my golden it makes sense to use an alcohol base as they have such a problem that you must unless their ears are inflamed. Alcohol does dry out the area but can also irritate and hurt any open skin portions due to scratching. You never use an alcohol based ear cleaner in an inflamed ear.
It's simply good routine practice. Wash the dog, rub the area with a cotton ball with an ear cleaner on it. It takes 2 seconds and can really minimize or eliminate ear issues especially when they are saturating the ear drums with swimming etc.
Burrows Solution is an old fashioned remedy that worked well on Tia when others didn't help and some interfered w/ diabetes meds. And for some odd reason she'd have adverse reactions to most prescribed meds. Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone has an issue as this isn't commonly offered . . . something else to check in to.
Darlah: is Epi Otic any good for drying?
Our vet said to use on the ear leather and if we need drop some into the canal and rub at the base of the ear/neck just to make sure ears are clean.
Is this ok?
Hi Darlah, come the end of September I do my annual linen closet clean out and will more than likely have some more blankets for you!
