Huge Issue

Hard drive died. No backup. Have no clue what was on it but passwords are except for this site. So, backup tonight will not happen. Dennis says I may be down till Tuesday. We shall see. This is going to be a painful recovery but I m using nathan's computer to update.

Dogs are wonderful. There will be no galleries till recovery occurs and then I will play catch-up. Dusty is playing really well. Ziggy and Odin  is too. Ash and Grey the pups were afraid of at first as they are schnauzers but not anymore. Saffron says this is my spot. heh Reality is everyone is having a total blast and I mean a total blast. They are fitting together so well.

I lost my calendar, Outlook, Photoshop, Lightroom and more etc. So, if you need to reach me in the next few days I have a mirror of my darlah@potechin.com acct on my ipad so you can now reach me.

This is a costly recovery. But I am trying to laugh and wish life would stop throwing curves.

This keeps getting worse as I can't remember passwords.

Oh and the BBQ died too so what will be next? I don't care. We are off to swim finally!

That TOTALLY sucks! But love your attitude, Darlah. I've gotten to the age now that there's no point in freaking when crap happens ... Because it will, you don't usually see it coming, and can rarely plan for it. You just figure out what your options are, deal with it, then count the blessings you do have. Enjoy the pool, I'm also headed there. By the way, Clarity met a beagle/daushound same age in the park this morning. It was early and cooler. The two ran and chased each other for a good 20 minutes ... What a hoot! (Yes, I must start carrying a camera)

Not good but at least the weather is better than the issue. Hope all gets resolved soon. Some weather we're having! I don't want it to stop :-)))))

Oh Darlah, I feel your pain. Being in IT as a career I know what a terrible situation you are in. Good luck with it and see you tomorrow.

Nice to hear that Clarity was willing to play with a new pup. She is adjusting very well to you and her new surroundings.

Clarity - good one on you!

Used to build computers. But this time I am glad Dennis is doing it as this is frustrating. I may lose a lot of data. Can't do data recovery on the sd drive. Not remembering passwords is driving me crazy. Outlook is a huge mess. Oh well - we will get through and glad I have my calendar in my tablet as well. Even if I have to put each entry in manually it will at least eventually get done. I live by the calendar so not fun. I have a number of dogs to wash tomorrow so Dennis can keep working at it. You forget what you had installed till you go to use it.

Well, things come in threes, so Nathan's ipad, the computer and the BBQ.

In your blogs, Murphy, Saffron, etc are "the pups". They won't be for much longer with the two new litters!

Hey Darlah,

My facebook memories are saying today (6th) is when I celebrated Levon's birthday the last two years...did I bugger up the date? What a horrible dog mom!

This sounds like a nightmare. You have a wonderful attitude. Passwords drive me crazy but usually they have a "forgot your password" way to get around it. I have used that more than once, because I forget where I marked down my password. Hope you have a better day today.

Well my password program won't allow me to retrieve my password so silly me. Think I will start using another. Did remember on a number of them but some not. We start anew. Painful process. New Windows 10 from 7. New Office (had a very old one). Much to get adjusted to and the BBQ bottom fell out. Did manage to get a Sterling not the Weber Nathan so wanted. It's a tiny thing but all we need but decent BTUS and vastly reduced due to Rona's scratch and save. It has to be built and Dennis is saying NOT now. It was a VERY expensive day yesterday. 2 hard drives, a power supply, new windows and office, a BBQ.

I have dogs to wash (4) so Dennis gets to play with my computer so its working more barely functional than it is at the moment.

Sherry: Nathan's ipad is just fine. He thought it was broken but Dennis turned it on. shhhhh

So, I am still waiting for the 3rd thing.

Darlah, you can count the hardware and software as 2 separate items! Going to office 7 was an adjustment and I hear the next major upgrade is another. Doesn't matter how computer literate or flexible you are, we are creatures of habit and want to do things quickly, so an adjustment it is. I think we all have an issue with passwords/logins ...especially when the same configuration isn't always allowed! Heck, even at U of T they can't get their act together and create one log in for their own systems.

My brother told me he found a big learning curve with windows 10. I hope my
older computer keeps chugging along on it's windows 7 platform.
I am sure you will pick it up quickly.

Christine, do you work at U of T in IT, or are you a user of their systems and just frustrated? I worked there for over 30 years, all of them in IT. The main reason their systems don't talk to each other is political, believe me, it has nothing to do with software or hardware.

I used Windows all the time that Windows was around, i.e. from the beginning, at work and at home. But, we had LAN Administrators whose job it was to solely look after hardware, software, backups, virus checkers, security, etc. When I retired and had to do it myself, a very knowledgeable friend convinced me to try Apple and their macs. That was in 2005. I have never looked back. More expensive but well, well, well worth it to me. And, the backups are taken care of for me by Time Machine incrementally. I would never go back to Windows. Just imho.

September 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngela and Patches

Small world. Yes, I work at U of T for over 17 years now. And yes, I'm fully aware that it is political, but even more so it's the structure. They are getting better at it, but still onerous.

I switched to Mac when my son moved out and wasn't around to help with PC problems. I absolutely love my Mac and I use time machine too. I have gone back to the paper and pencil method of password recording. I use an address book so they are organized alphabetically. Works really well.
