Only One Blog Tonight

Tomorrow Zoe and Noahn departs. They have been with us for awhile as the humans are doing remodeling. As we all know remodeling is best when it is finished. the process is never on time and well not fun.

Chester and Koko also is departing tomorrow. Magic and Muntuno are coming for baths and next weekend no grooming as it is the weekend before pups.

Yikes Leti is in heat.

Marcie came to visit and Safi and Sage was out of their mind happy.

We also went to Woofstock today and on our way home the car wouldn't shift so looks like the car goes in on Monday to get fixed and we get to rent a vehicle. Fun! Why always on a weekend?

Here is the gallery.

I still have a dog to wash tonight. It is raining and well it was an overcast and then sunny day. What will tomorrow bring?

Oh well with the car not working, I get to transplant plants after grooming is done. Someone is stealing my tomatoes so I am looking for solutions. I am so unhappy as each time I get a ripe one it is gone. Need to buy some netting.

Sage is so bold. We have the Stormy but well Sage makes Stormy look sedate. Oh boy... She is full of beans, precocious and well did you know she drank out of my glass?

Everyone is having a blast. Dennis and Jon entertained the dogs while we were at Woofstock.

Steven and May's trio are fitting in so well and are having a blast.

Let's hope tomorrow is a pool day. :-)

We put in Sweet Million tomatoes. They're very small, but it does seem we get a million, given the 4 plants we put in. Good thing is that there's enough for the chips and us to share. :-) We find the skins and seeds around, but we are never at a shortage, so a win/win. Have your tried those? We don't seem to have much luck w/ other varieties, like beefsteak so continue w/ these.

I like the beefsteak for salsas. Last year I had the mini tomatoes but forget what type. Too little to make salsa with. Perfect for salads. I have a sneaky suspicion some animal is stealing my tomatoes. I am miffed. I have to buy netting and Lee Valley to stop it as I do so use my tomatoes. They tend to leave the unripe ones alone. Picky critters. What else do you grow, Debi? I grow many types of lettuce, green and yellow beans, many herbs, onions, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, raspberries, strawberries. I really, really like fresh tomatoes. Tomorrow Canadian Tire has Calamondin Oranges for only 22.99

We don't grow much, Darlah. We simply don't have the room and only have our veg garden around one side of our house (where the pool equipment also is.) I think Sweet Million chose us as we've tried to grow Beefsteak and were never successful. We've raised the garden and always add new rich soil every year. Added in ground up egg shells, recommended nutrients and still nothing great as far as success w/ Beefsteak. We also tried San Marsano and they were like leather - never again! I like to grow lots of basil around the tomatoes as heard they make the tomatoes taste better, plus I love basil and making pesto. I love salsa as well so plant cilantro & parsley, as well as lemon thyme (LOVE) verigated thyme b/c it simply looks pretty. Also, rosemary, sage and spearmint, which I love to put in my drinks. We're quite successful w/ cucumbers too. I'm contemplating growing strawberries as heard they're easy to maintain. It was recommended to buy the annual variety as they tend to be more fruitful and the others can be harder to maintain. What kind of strawberries do you grow?

Darlah, I've never heard of the oranges you mention?

Debi, I bought strawberry plants for the first time, they are supposed to be perennials but can be used as annuals i.e. not to be reused next year. We’ll see how many I get but so far, it seems like I will get a lot! Love the idea of growing spearmint for drinks! Basil and coriander, the best herbs IMHO!

Anne, thx for the info as the strawberry plants sound encouraging and I will try. How many did you get? I have to find a place . . . . LOL

I use Lorna Vanderhaeghe's supplements and follow her regime - she also wrote a book w/ my doctor, Alvin Pettle. Anyway, what I'm getting to is that Spearmint and "not" mint is a very good herb for youthful qualities, specifically the skin. So heh - - let's put it in our drinks, whether they be sparkling water or otherwise. :-)

I read you liked coriander/cilantro. Some hate it, but it's my fave. Salsa w/o it is not salsa to me!

If planted in the ground, depending on what type you got. There are everbearing, June bearing or day neutral bearing. Everbearing will produce a crop all season long. June bearing will give you a monster crop in June only. Day neutral bearing gives you a crop June, July and August but only once per month. Everbearing is continuously fruiting but there are benefits to a massive June crop of a larger amount of fruit with only one crop each month. They do come back yearly but pay attention to where they are as the weeds will kill them. Throw straw over them just before winter for protection and they come back every year till they fizzle and you have to plant anew. I like hanging pots as you are not faced with rot or animals eating and you can plant them in the ground early fall if you want to see them next year. I do know people that have strawberry pots and bring them in for the winter.

Thyme.... lemon balm, cilantro, basil, lemon grass, oregano, rosemary, parsley, chives etc. Each year before winter hits, I put olive oil in ice cube trays that I use just for this and add herbs to each. I freeze and separate each type and mark it for winter cooking. I do take them out of the ice cube trays as I have so many and put them in freezer bags.

Thanks Darlah. Now I intend to go to garden centre to see what they have available. I like the idea of the hanging pots too.

Darlah & Anne - I purchased Everbearing yesterday @ Metro. They chose me - sitting at the entrance looking very healthy, good size and w/ some blooms. I didn't even know what they were, but wanted to check them out. They didn't have any other variety, so no choice to be had. $9.99.

Now I have to figure out where to put them. I could pot it as quite pretty (now) but I find plants thrive better in ground. Just to find a proper space! :-)

Hope the Chips don't like these.
