The Play

Ollie and Mabel played and played and when he was done with Mabel, he played with Chloe. I think we need to call Ollie an everready battery. LOL

Here is the gallery. It also includes class night.

Charlie was here for a groom today. Charlie is a gal. Charlie came yesterday but he was a boy. Do you have that straight?

It was a very hot day again. It was out and in all day. We watch for heat issues with dogs and water is run on the deck and around the pool often to cool it off.

9 dogs perished at a kennel that does boarding in King City due to a fire. No one was there. Please folks, ask a boarding facility or your vet if they have someone there for the dogs 24/7. Some assume but do not ask. We are here for the dogs always. They are never alone. If you use someone else, know what you are paying for and 24/7 care should be it. Just saying...

Tonight Chewie comes. Tomorrow a 55 lb Golden doodle comes with Coco the havanese. The golden doodle is a puppy. We also have Jesse... the collie. We have missed the duo. He comes with Murphy the boy havanese. We are in for some grand fun as Murphy the gal also returns.

I need to weed. I need to put all my supplies back so the piano can go. So many - I needs. I have so many berries, veggies, tomatoes ripening - I think I overdid it. electrician was supposed to return but did he... nah.

My vet actually changed their release form based on my feedback. Ripley was supposed to stay overnight after a procedure and I asked that the night attendant tuck a favourite toy in with him. They then causally told me there was no night attendant, and tbh, I flipped a little bit. How could you not be up front with this info instead of me accidentally finding out?? He was going to be alone and defenceless in case of a fire? Like you said, I just assumed a level of care that had someone there through the night. Ripley came home with me, and I now see the fact that there is no overnight attendant is noted on the release form.

Murphy had a fever and was sick. The vet was going to leave her alone overnight even though she was dehydrated and needed to be on IV. I took her to the Emerg where she had a rough night. Can you imagine if she had been all alone? I don’t get it. With the fees we pay, you would think they could afford to have someone there overnight.

Is there not a requirement for insurance coverage that there be staff 24/7, I think with horse boarding stables that is the case. I do know fires can still happen but I do think the dogs could have been saved, much easier to move/relocate, not like horses, sadly at Classy Lane Stables 43 perished 2.5 years ago but was limited to only 1 barn. And staff there live on site but couldn't do much to save them.
Also what if the dog has a reaction or something else? What about meds, IV fluids, etc?
Thanks Sue for the heads up, Tom and I will definitely do night watch for our doggies at home.

I have taken my dogs home with an iv attached. I know how to manage one. I have never left my dogs over night except years ago when I didn't know any better. Most vets do not have staff at night. but this isn't just about vets. They have some really great ones that see the potential issues if dogs are left for the night. Things can happen unfortunately. Many dog kennels do not have staff either at night. They may live on the property but no one is awake and monitoring the facilities. What boggles my mind is that these facilities that leave dogs in runs often do not have sprinkler systems etc. You can often do something - maybe not save all but something if you see a fire when it starts. It amazes me that so many - like me at one time - assume of course there is night staff. It's not a given so after this fire in King City, I took an opportunity to post so each of us can ask.

There is no law governing over night stays at a vet or boarding facility but they should be upfront with you. there also should be laws, imho.

Sue - thank you for being proactive.

OMG. That is so sad. I will now know to ask should Rusty have to stay overnight. I thought they all send the dogs to Emergency for the night if they are on meds. Terrible to even think about.
It is very hot. Stay cool and safe. Darlah. How's the hives?

Ive always brought my dogs home. I think the over-night stay is an old school thought. Ones that leave dogs alone need to get w/ it. I only had pressure years ago and reason given to me is that they sleep undisturbed and do better. I told them @ that time if they couldnt have a tech there on watch & guarantee there would be no problems that I would be taking my dog home for care & proper observation.🐕🐾
