Archie is a sweetheart. We have seen so many changes since the 1st time he came to visit us. It's ever so nice.
Archie gets a bath after his walk tonight as he is going home in the morning and Nathan is at a show. This way he will be nice and clean for his mom and dad when they return.
Archie is a food hound. He just adores meal time and if he had his druthers, he would eat his own and anyone else's. heh
We will miss Archie but we really enjoyed his visit.
Milo and Hugo also go later (probably evening) tomorrow. They are regulars and both are characters in their own right.
Today we spent the early morning outside. I did some weeding and some of the dogs tried to help. Who? Oscar, DD (hope that's the spelling), Tess and Kat. It made weeding INTERESTING but I try to make it fun. Then the warmth started settling in and we came inside. The dogs actually prefer it outside as there is so much to do but we are still in short bursts of outside stints.
DD and Tess have really settled in and have found our couch. They like snuggling while we watch TV. Where Archie, anyone who hits the recliner, he wants on it and so does Abigail and Fiona. Yep I usually have them all on. DD and Tess prefer the couch but so does Risa and many of the others.
Nathan was at the show today so it was me and the dogs till noonish. Then he took over for a bit so I coudl get my - just renewed exercise in. Gad I am sore but hey this blog is anout teh dawgs not my aches and pains.
Oscar goes out every chance he gets. He loves exploring the garden while I am pulling weeds. Maybe his mom does this and he finds a familiarity. I don't know. I will have to find out.
It's a little quiet today but I managed to get some interesting photos. Check them out.
Didi and Tess came and although they were not sure what to think with the crew, they have now started hanging out with the crew, adventuring in the back (which they love) and they even had fun with some kids that came to visit (Chewies house). They have really gone from - what is this about to hey this is fun. Though Didi is not sure what that barking from Raylan is about and his pouncing on her back to play but she seems to know that he's just a pup. Her tail even wags at him. Tess loves to explore and I think she has found her fun.
Chewie went home today and we will miss him but he will be back for a couple of weeks soon. We surely had a lot of fun with him.
What was our day like?
We went out before the heat hit first thing at 6amish. I watered the plants. Took photos in-between and we played a bit of retrieve and then came in. The heat was coming on.
Then I started grooming one by one. That's why in today's photos you will see the ungroomed look and the groomed look. <heh> It takes me a bit to do each dog but it gets done and I feel better that they don't have any knots. Plus I get to clean around their eyes, check their ears and see if anything else is going on with them. Grooming tells you so much. It gets you to look closer.
After that Nathan had a session with them playing up a storm and only managed a few photos but I think I made up for it. He had a dog show to attend. So it was me and the dawgs for most of the day. Now he is hanging out with teh crew while I update the blogs.
Let me tell you about the visitors. Chewie is a play monkey. He adores Wasabi and loves Raylan.
Archie is not a fan of the heat and I don't blame him.
We pay attention to the dogs. They are never outside alone. So, if I am feeling it, they are and we act accordingly only going outside for short stints. What I have noticed is the play is minimum as running is hot in hot weather and inside is not enough running room though they try and we allow. We walk after the sun goes down and all the dogs LOVE the walks some begging to go twice.
Archie has been here a few times before and really has found his spot. He plays with everyone but he adores laying in your lap and oh that treat after grooming - well can I have TWO?
Hugo is a 'got to play' dog. He doesn't think about the heat so we think for him. He's busy trying to be the coordinator. You play with me and you play with me and also you play with me. Milo his housemate is more of an easy going guy who just lets it all play out and joins in when Abigail is playing. He's smitten.
Oscar came yesterday and his mom says he doesn't like the heat but he goes out every chance he gets for 5 minute stints here and there. Early morning when it was cool, he loved chillin' on the deck and adventuring in the backyard. Food - well bring it on, please! I remember the 1st time he was here when I hugged him the 1st time he was stiff. That tells me he was not sure what this crazy person was doing but now he hunkers on down and snuggles into the neck. It's so nice to see the changes. He adores his walks.
It's been a really great day with snuggles, eating, playing and just relaxing. Check out today's photos. When it cools off you will get to see more action versions but we managed to capture some.
Activity is low though we have MANY, MANY moments outside just short stints. WE do play outside and in but we use common sense.
The dogs know that the cool floor in an air conditioned house may be the best place to hang out. Can you blame them?
The dogs go for walks after he sun goes down as it's simply just not healthy for them to walk mid day.
Archie and Chewie are hanging out, playing and enjoying. Tomorrow a few more join them and we hope this heat wave breaks but if not, we may be doing crazy play in the house just to mix it up.
You don't know what crazy play is? It's running and jumping and playing to get the dogs excited and having fun just like we do outside but inside it can be a tad chaotic.
We do have a few photos today - not as much as I would like but I hope you enjoy. Check them out on the Visitors and Boarders Photo page.
What can I tell you about Archie? He loves to snuggle. He is smitten with Nathan. He's fascinated with Raylan. He really likes Chewie and he's majorly relaxed. Each time he has found his comfort level more till he's just one of the guys. Food time comes - well he's right there saying - hey me. Grooming time - where's that treat? Ah Archie, we just love him.
Now we haven't seen Chewie for quite sometime so it was way fun to see him. He really loves the puppy and Wasabi. One wonders why? I can't blame him. He's been settling in saying hello to everyone, finding comfort on the couch up high and playing with everyone but that puppy has caught his eye - Raylan that is. Me thinks he will be sleeping slammed up to Nathan tonight right along side of Archie - a dog for each side. How fun!
If anyone wants to see the video of Missy, Holly and Penny with the pups, you can find them on the Wasabi or Abigail's video page or on the visitor/boarding video page. Missy, Holly and Penny was hanging out with the little guys.
NOTE: Click on the photo here to see a larger version. We will be going back to using thumbnails and clickable photos if you want to see a larger view.
If you are interested in photos, Missy, Holly and Penny was snapped before and after baths as that was the day all 3 were going home. sniff I don't have formal before and after shots but rather just clicks of that day. Check them out on the visitors and boarding photo page.
Well, it is truly quiet here. It reminds me when our kids come home, the whole house gets more active. I believe due to having 7 kids, we are used to that non-stop activity so when we have a lull, it's as if to say - now what. Sure we have a house filled with our own but it takes me so little time to groom and that should equal lots of free time but does it? No! It just means all those tasks that were not dog related gets fit in till we get another visitor and then we have an excuse - we've gone to the dawgs! Plus I get extra snuggling time and extra playtimes and everything including fitting in a PVR that is filled up. But do we miss the activity? YEP!
Next guest comes on April 28th. We can't wait!
PS: I think tomorrow I wil work on some more articles to spruce up the library here.
As you probably know by now, we are big on the retrieve game. It's fun. It tuckers them out and it usually teaches them the spirit of competition.
It took a bit before Treasure 'understood' the spirit - meaning it doesn't always have to be about HER.
Well, Daisy reminds me a bit of Treasure where she rather would get YOU to do the chase game - you chase her - which I refuse or she covets the toy. So, we are practicing walking away and ending the game. This method may take a few days but it DOES work. I have never had a dog that it hasn't.
But you have to laugh watching the mind clicking away waiting to see what you will do. Will she give in this time?
PS: I didn't but we are about to go back out and try it again.
Little by little I am getting my dawgs washed but today I got Ripley done as he was going home and Penny who is staying for a bit but I wanted to take a 4 generations photo while Fiona's mom was still here. She leaves tonight.
I intended on doing one more but I got side-tracked.
Shanty goes in to get her teeth done tomorrow. So, it's just me and the dawgs. Daisy is visiting us again and Ripley left us. <sniff>
Charlie and Kitzie came to visit us and I had video of that visit and Ripley playing up a storm and the bleepin fingers of mine pushed format vs. finalize. I could shoot myself. It's called *&^% happens. I have yet to tell Nathan but he will find out reading this. oy as it was his video. It was one of those things that you do and you go - oh no, how could I have done THAT!
But we did get photos of today so I am hoping you enjoy those on the boarders and visitors photo page.
I guess I am tired. What's new?
Penny & Shanty are playing up a storm. Check it out on the Boarders and Visitor's Videos page.
Both Fiona and Treasure are in heat. Well, Treasure is out in a few days and so is Fiona. Treasure is a dominant dog and with hormones going and all, she went after Fiona. You see, Fiona was getting cozy with Kat and Treasure was beside herself - sounds like a doggie soap opera. When the heat cycle is over, Fiona and Treasure play like the best of friends that they are. It's crazy - truly. It is amazing what hormones can do to us humans and canines alike. Each female dog acts different. Some sleep a whole lot. Some get cranky. Some get sucky. Some get way emotional. It sounds a lot like humans, doesn't it?
Is this another good reason to get your dog spayed or neutered? YEP!
So what is the answer? Separate the breeding duo or if no one is being bred, Kat gets to stay out of the equation and voila - no issue. I can have any amount of males here during this time and no issues but throw a couple of gals in heat, and as long as Kat is going from one to the other, well Treasure doesn't want to share THAT. Out of sight, out of mind is bang on for harmony.
If you want to know how Fiona feels about it... well look at the photo with her hair things coming out. But right now Kat's in Nathan's office and the pair is snuggled up together with Ripley.
Well, Shanty gets her teeth done Wednesday. She has a couple of canines that need to be pulled as her adult teeth didn't push the baby juveniles out.
Tomorrow Ripley leaves (he gets a bath) and Daisy comes. Ripley has really fit in playing up a storm with Treasure and Shanty. It's been a delight. He will be missed. He lays and watches TV with me on my lap with his head on the recliner. He sleeps cuddled up to Nathan at night. He just came in, fit like a perfect glove and ate up a storm. hehehehe
Oh well, tomorrow brings another day.
Why oh why didn't we take a photo? We have Risa and Fiona and we had Fiona's daughter Penny and Fiona's mom Maggie here. How silly of us not to take a photo but we have been a tad crazy around here trying to get a magazine out - well Nathan is so I am pulling up my bootstraps, so to speak with other things.
We had Penny go home and Ripley come to visit. It's downright quiet - well as quiet as it ever is here.
More tomorrow when I am a tad more awake. Had little sleep last night. Dawgs were great but Nathan had to go to the airport at the crack of dawn.
No rest for the weary but hey we are getting conditioned. ROFL!
I washed Kat, Shanty, Louis, Coach and Sassy. Coach and Sassy are going home tomorrow morning and Louis went home tonight.
It was a whole lot of washing. We already miss the Louis.
This afternoon we also had our daughter and the grandkids stop by to play a game or two with the havanese. Do yourself a favour and check out the photos today to see how much the havanese enjoyed the kids. It was a pure delight.
It's their visit and the washing that set me behind in posting but it was worth it.
They will be back on Friday but everyone will be gone except Ripley who comes on Friday too.
It was a delightful and warm day other than that spitting rain this morning. The crew walked and played their hearts out. It will be sad to see more go tomorrow. Ah, it's the life if the Holiday Talemaker Havanese crew. How else could we have so many dogs? When they come to hang out, well our hearts - well it does one good.
The crew can't get enough of this fabulous weather. When it is time to walk, they all want to go over and over. hehe
Nathan is out nonstop with them as am I.
When it is time to play outside or simply lay out and watch, well it's like the revolving door. In out, in out, in out, well you get the point.
That toy I got at 'All About Pet Show' is still their all time fave. I wish I got two. Silly me. Maybe they will have them at Woofstock in June.
All the crew is fascinated with the pups. If they make their little noises, their heads cock to see what that's all about. I can't wait to see them when the pups can go outside.
Well, tommorrow Louis goes home. Such a short visit for a sweetheart of a dog. We love it when he comes.
Louis came early this morning and will be here till Monday. He's always a delight.
Coach and Sassy are here till Tuesday morning and Jay and Cesar are here till Thursday. Then Ripley comes on Friday. We will have a lot of changes this week.
As I type this Cesar and Jay are playing up a storm running up and down the hallways here. Coach and Sassy are snoozing after playing a very active game of chase.
It's been a wild house and while I was off at the 'All About Pet Show' Nathan also had Yvonne's 4.
By the way, I really enjoyed getting out and it was a huge treat. I am also going to a seminar tomorrow while our son watches the crew for a couple of hours. It's been forever since I have been out. The subject is 'dog language. WE tend to try to keep learning so any of the dogs and boarders can benefit. It's a win/win for us and them.
I bought this absolutely grand idea of a toy at the show. You put a plastic bottle inside of it and they use it to crinkle and retrieve but the bottle doesn't get splintered or a mess and you can always put a new one in to replace it.
Here you can see Treasure nearly having a heart attack as Shoshi had the audacity to beat her to it first.
You can get a better photo of this toy in today's photos. Still don't have tons of photos but as things wind down in the busy department, I will.
This toy is a huge hit!!
As you can see, although exhausted, I came back and played with the dogs, snuggled with the puppies and cropped photos and updated the blog. I could use sleep after getting up at 5am.
No, the dawgs didn't wake us but Nathan was doing a favour for someone and driving them to the show. If you do go to the show, go to Breeder's row and say hello to Val Weston. She's in the Bichon booth and she has one of Fiona's pups and yes she is bouncing and saying hello to just about everyone. Give her kisses for me.
It's fun to watch the play - what I like to call the Havanese dance. Treasure loves it when the boys pay attention to her like this. Jay is heavily smitten. What will we do?
Today Cesar won the retrieval toy more than Treasure did and it drove her crazy. It was so silly - this game. You swear you are watching pre-teens.
Tonight Coach and Sassy arrived and Friday Louis comes. Tomorrow Yvonne's crew wil come for a visit. It's going to be a crazy house for sure but a fun one. Watch for photos tomorrow.
We moved the puppies downstairs so we had a lot of moving and changes so it was moving, playing, walking and fun but not much time for photography but I promise tomorrow brings more dawg fun!
The Remster has left us and I bet he is already snoozing as I type. He will be missed.
It's rather quiet around here with just Cesar and Shanty. Cesar is smitten with Treasure and has been running after her nonstop and she is loving it.
Treasure's that gal that always gets attention and revels in it. I am not sure why the boys like her but it has to be her fun lovin' way she embraces life.
I washed, Remy, Fiona, Wasabi and Abigail today so no photo gallery today. I hope you understand. I am now off to watch the puppies and relax. More tomorrow.
We had 1 new visitor come today and some of our regulars. It's exciting times. Check out the photos here.
This is Obi playing with Treasure. I think Treasure has taken over Abigail's role now that Abigail has pups.
Well, what can I say about our visitors? Obi does the stairs up and down and he's a wee pup of I think 3.5 months. He's hanging out with Treasure and with Shanty. He's fitting in really well. He's here till tomorrow or Sunday depending on the game score. That's another story. :-)
Cesar arrived and well Cesar is a great fun filled dog who I love to snap photos of. He just finds the fun with everyone. He ran up to me and slathered me with kisses.
Zack and Coco arrived and well they fit in as if they are always here. They tend to play with everyone and Coco tends to be curious always checking anything new out. Zack was already standing in line to get his treat after grooming. hahahaha
Remy is playing with Treasure a great deal but he is also branching out and playing with the rest of the crew especially with Zack. It's nice to see.
It's a crazy dawg house tonight and I love it!!
I can't wait till tomorrow to see what the day brings. Catch you then!
It's time for Coco and Zack to go home but they will be returning on Friday just for the weekend. We also will be getting Obi (a Coton puppy) for the weekend too. Puppies are so much fun.
Cesar will also be joining us that day. Those that remember the photos I took of him will also remember that life needs a bit of Cesar in it and we are looking forward to it!
Zack and Coco had a bath and I have yet to take photos or groom the rest of the crew as Nathan was picking up a dog an hour and a half from here to help a friend out.
So, he just got home leaving me a tad behind. WE might not even do photos as the rain is starting but I am going to try to take some puppy ones as they are 2 weeks now.
Zack refused to pose for me. It happens.
I was alone trying to get him to sit as pretty as his housemate, Coco but you can still see that he is clean and besides, he's a boy who isn't supposed to want glam shots. hahahaha
The dogs played a bit of retrieve with me and Zack and Remy was playing up a storm.
Shanty is coming along and now back to grooming.
Do any of you watch the 'Good Wife? Should she stay or should she go to Will?
I didn't know which to show you first.
The freshly bathed Daisy going home or the dawg that was having such a splendid time that I had to brush her several times a day as she just got trees, dirt and all sorts of things stuck in her coat.
I can't believe they are the same dog but after I bathed her, I had to keep her in my office while I groomed the other dogs just to stop her from getting dirty yet again.
Remy and Daisy was awaiting for her to come back out and get into her usually messy fun status.
But she is now at home and Remy and Treasure are playing with each other but missing the Daisy.
This is what Daisy looked like as much of the day as she possibly could muster up. Coco and Zack also helped this state of Daisy along as they did the chase game through brush and mud.
But it was so much fun. I think Daisy got brushed and combed more than anyone else.
Personally, I like to brush dawgs in the morning and be done with it but with puppies and rain and mud, well it's often 4 or 5 before I am done. hehehehe
Check out some photos from today and yesterday, here.
The weather has become cooler. The game of get the ball is something they all adore.
Life is fun with a bunch of Havanese!
Tomorrow Zack and Coco go home and Remy is our only visitor till Cesar arrives then Remy goes home and Jay arrives the next day. March disappears and so does another birthday for me and Whitney.
Remy - he finally has his groove on. It's nice!
We just had Chico, Jasper and Rufus go home today. Below you will find photos of them freshly bathed. It was a chore to keep thiscrew clean after a bath as they wanted to play and play and play. I think I brushed Chico and Jasper 3 times, hehehe
Wait till you see the photos of Daisy with ahem black feet but they play Mommy and have so much fun and she wil be clean by the time you see her.
WE ARe true dawg people and don't worry about dirty feet til you see them. Oh we brush and rinse feet off etc but they do have fun!
Tomorrow we have Tiger Lily and Scout leaving us and Sunday Daisy. Life is changing but soon we will have Jay, and Cesar join us and Remy will remain till the end of the month. Zack and Coco go home early next week.
We were blessed with being able to capture different dawgs doing different things today. Mostly it was Nathan. I got a few too. But check them out and today's title is visitors going home.
It started out as a dry day. Scout slept all the way till 630 and was raring to go. Marlee was playing like a banshee and Jazmyn was snuggling in the bed with Terra, our golden.
Jasper and Chico was playing like they were long lost brothers. heh
Rufus decides to eat faster than lightening so he can play with the boys.
Then our regulars Zack and Coco came in and then a new dog Towser. We didn't manage to get photos of Towser yet as I was busy drying dawgs and I had already pulled photos off for the photo gallery. I figure drying dawgs was more important but look for photos of him tomorrow along with Saki that is coming for an overnight visit.
We also had a dawg yank a bag off the counter but I caught it and back on the counter further away from the edge it went. We won't name names here. But no worries, no dietary indiscretions and beyond it hitting the floor, they didn't have time to get into it. :-)
Here's part of the crew when it first started raining but it got much worse.
Dawgs have to be walked and brought out to get some energy out of them and do their business. It's not fair to the dawgs if we put pads on the floor and expect them to expel all their energy inside.
Both inside and outside is important. So that's what they get and I just dry and dry and brush and brush. hehehehe
Really they were nicely brushed THIS morning. If you look at the latest photos, you will see their feet wet. It's days like this that the work never ends but it's wonderful when you have a dog like Towser laying on my box under my desk snoozing on my foot. It makes all the work worthwhile.
Now off to snuggle.
