18 Days Old

Here is the gallery.

I can no longer weigh these pups as they attempt to jump out of the scale. I will continue to check when asleep here and there. This always happens at this stage. They see and then they want to jump out. LOL

They are doing really well. They do sleep almost 3 hours between feedings - sometimes more sometimes less but when awake, they do interact with each other.

If I sound a bit rushed, I am but hopefully this will pass. I am thankful that all the pups are doing well and only having to supplement 1. But I am tired, stressed and not eating. I have to send Nathan out today for fast food. Don't have time to cook literally. So apologies if updates are not as good as previous. This will pass - hopefully soon.

17 Days and Toys

As you can see the pups now have a playmat - need to get another and this gal went right to playing with it.

Pups are ready for toys. We shall see who engages today. 

What is the next milestone? Full out walking, not drunken style. This gal above is already doing that.

Then at 3 plus weeks we introduce solids. Oh yeah, I forgot they also have to come out of the whelping box. 

16 Days Old

Today I am going to add some more toys. They need to have some visuals now that their eyes are wide open. It is a fun learning stage. Soon they will full out walk and then eat solids. Imagine that!

2 Weeks 1 Day Old Tonight

Last 2 Eyes Open: 2 Blog Day

This is Nami's 5th born gal - the tiniest. She opened her eyes tonight.

This is the gal I call thin line as she has a thin white line on her chest. She now has her eyes open.

All 5 have eyes open. Over the next week, they will start to get mobile and curious enough to start playing with each other. We are entering the fun stage.

Two Weeks Old Tonight: Eyes

Oh to be woken up to take photos. Yes, I am the 3rd with eyes open. See the gallery.

Here are the weights today. As you will see we have 1 small puppy that will remain smallewr as an adult. It is the last born. 

All pups are doing well though that boy loves to take all the milk slots but his siblings say - we get to eat too. LOL

2nd born boy 1lb 3-2/8oz 547g

3rd born brown and cream 1lb 5/8oz 473g

Eyes: The Start

1st born gal - slits open. She was the 2nd to open. Here  is the gallery. It was hard to get her keeping her eyes open.

As the eyes continue to open, I will add a few toys. When they open, the eyesight is blurry and continually clears up. They will begin to try to explore and walk.

12 Days Old Tonight: On Watch for Eyes

Here is the gallery.

We are on watch for eyes opening but I have seen them as late as almost 3 weeks old. These have slits starting so I doubt they will wait till then.

Pups had Dennis back full time and the pups gained nicely. I was having to play catch-up during the day and that was stress-filled.

Pups are doing well. They are trying to walk the drunken sailor walk despite no eyes. I will try to get them on video doing that.

11 Days Tonight

It will be good to have Dennis fully on night shift tonight. As Dennis has had to be up part of the day and we have to split up boys and girls at night to sleep, his time is divided. So the pups either lose a tiny bit or hold their weight overnight but as I play catch-up during the day, with a 24 hour window, they do gain. With Dennis not having to watch the male adults tonight, he can be there for Nami and the pups. Soon Sage's will come too. 

It is very hard to juggle. Dennis and I have done our best. Adding gals in heat maded the juggling more but they all gained through the week if I just weight every 24 hours. LOL I weigh every 12.

We do have squinty eyes on a couple. We shall see when their eyes open. They are trying to get up on their legs though poorly, at the moment. 

They are eating 2.45 to 3 hours apart. This helps weight gain as they sleep between. Nami has adjusted. 

She is such a great mom!

1 Week 3 Days Old Tonight

Here is the gallery. I will add to it as the day goes on.

Nami is happier than ever with her pups. She is adjusting to longer times between feedings. That is good for her and for them. I have been timing when they start to fuss and it is 2.5 to 3 hours. Far cry from feeding every hour and a half. They still eat the same amount is gains are comparable but they are sleeping more - which is good for weight gain and development. 

Hard to believe they will be 10 days old tonight. 

Now we are on watch for eyes opening.

9 Days Old Tonight

Nami is a happy mom. I am now making her extend her time to 2 hours between feedings for her sake and the pups sake. 1.5 hours is too often and expels energy. This means less weight gain. Pups seem to be happier and this allows me to have Sage in here every now and then. 

I think this is a good solution for all and I can time my groomings around feeding times, as well.

I will be updating the Sage blog with tummy photos.

1 Week 1 Day Old Tonight

Can you believe that by the time Sage's pups are born, these pups may start opening their eyes.

I spend a lot of time touching them so they are used to human touch. This process starts before their eyes are open. It is conditioning them to enjoy the touch of a human. 

We have one puppy that sometimes drinks too fast. When her eyes are open, she can select the top spots to avoid too much at once.

Between 7-10 days old they are supposed to double their birth weight. They have. 

The boy - if extra hungry, will treat the milk stations as all his and like eating corn on the cob, he pushed them all out of the way. Wait till their eyes are open.

1 Week Old Beauties

We have reached the 1st milestone. They are 1 week old starting tonight. Wow - how did that happen?

Eyes can open from day 10 on. There is no rhyme or reason. They open when they are ready. Some early - some late in same litter. It doesn't mean anything but early ones have a headstart to looking around. 

I will be updating the gallery and videos as the day goes on - as usual. 

The 2 that eat the most is the boy and the cream and brown. 

Going on 6 Days Tonight

Here is the gallery. As usual, I add to it when I get a chance so new photos will show up. I do it whenever I can.

Let me fill you in. There are 2 girls that will be smaller. None will be oversized but 1 is midrange and 2 on the larger size. The brown and white has brown coming in scattered through her coat. She will be stunning colour wise. They are all beauties but I find coat interesting at times. 

Nami's top inverted nipples have sorted its way out. She is no longer on antibiotics. She tends not to eat on antibiotics but there are times they are needed. Not eating means not enough milk. After antibiotics was stopped, she had too much milk. You can't win. 

I wonder if pups will open their eyes before Nathan gets back and Sage has pups. Time will tell.

I am nursing a coffee cup. I forgot to change the time on it so it's already getting cold.

Turning 5 Days Old Tonight

I knew this would happen with Nathan gone. I am juggling groomings, pups and Dennis sleeping. Looks like updates won't be in the morning the next week but in the afternoon to evening. 

I will upload videos as I can. You will find them here. Some of them will be found in shorts. 

Momma had so much milk that it was ridiculous today. You don't want them to aspirate so I am having them feed more frequently. It makes more work for me but we shall see how that goes. 

Pups are lively but sleeping as I type. Dennis will have to sleep after the dogs eat till bedtime. We shall see how that goes. The pups and momma Nami is wonderful.
