Magazine & Things
The magazine is going to the US National Specialty to be in every single participants and visitors bag and this is the photo I opted for that goes with my article.
Nathan said my other one didn't have enough resolution for print. Oh well...
I think photos should be of the dawgs and this was more dawgs than me. :-)
Do you recognize who it is?
Today the dogs watched with fascination while the pool guy removed our liner.
I do hope it arrives on Friday but I am hopeful but not believing it yet.
What did I learn? The deep end is 12 feet not 10 as I thought. The pool was constructed well as it didn't have cracks in it and that would have cost more. I saw his pool with his design and liked it so much that I opted to do the same wirh no border. He says it was a trend when we had the pool in to do borders but now more are opting for no borders as it looks more natural. We shall see. Plus you are not stuck in one design.
The dogs sat with fascination watching all this. Treasure isn't happy and the hole disturbs her but no one else. None walk near it but around it. We are watching them closely and have no issues with them being outside but we all go out with them not just one of us. Soon it will have water. Tomorrow I am going to put gates up around the deck and the openings so they can go through the garden and on the deck but not near the pool and have a more relaxed 'me'. They are relaxed - me not so much. I worry always. Have never had an accident and want to keep it that way.
Logan and Panda was here and was fine around the pool and so was Jlo so this is 'me'.
We did this before when we had puppies that was too curious around the pool and actually just fenced the pool in and we can go that route again. That's Dennis' job and that will be his early morning chore. We will leave it up till the pool liner goes in and it gets filled.
When I walk in the empty pool the dawgs look at me as if I lost my marbles. :-)

Darlah: When I was a child, our family pool was gunite. We drained it every spring, shovelled out the gucky leaves and had to do a white wash paint - every single year and scrub the ceramic tiles weekly. That's how I broke my arm at 12. The pool was empty and I was running around w/ my poodle and she ran under me as I was jumping over the diving board. In order to miss her and not fall in the empty pool, I landed odd and broke my wrist. To this day it doesn't work right, but fond memories. :-) Pools can be a lot of work, but well worth it! Laci knows the pool well now (inside and out) and we are not concerned w/ her around it any longer . . . when we're with her. Of course we would never leave her outside unattended. Not this summer! I understand your nervousness. I always fear an accident as well. I think it's a Motherly instinct that gets intense after we have children and it's always there!
PS - Almost forgot . . . LOL. Re the photo - at first I thought it was a winter photo b/c of the white background, but after looking at the dog in the foreground, I think it's Kobe at Woodstock . . . ?
I think you are right Debi....looks like Kobe.
It's a great photo :)
I also noticed from the woofstock pics that Ringo really does remind me of the Scruffster. He's a sweetheart!
If you paid close attention part of Ringo is in it and Kobe :-)
We had a gunite pool too in California - never here due to the shifting and they can lift etc. I wanted one when we were looking at installing one and all the pool people said you really shouldn't. I actually prefer a gunite and in California you never have to empty. :-) I was actually talking to this pool guy about pools cause what else can you talk about and he said a gunite pool is too expensive, too much work and he was just dealing with one in Newmarket that lifted on one side and one side stayed in place due to ground shifting and someone emptying it. He says it is impossible to fix. You have to start anew and rebuild. Even with salvaging parts its a good 35 grand job. Oh my... So we count our blessings we have a liner, we can give a different look when we have to replace and its a fraction of what a gunite pool is. Interesting thing is he said you never empty a gunite pool in this climate as the weight of the water stops them from lifting so I think you were lucky. In California when they empty they stay in place and they use them for skateboard. He did show me a gunite sprayed black with black fixtures and it looked amazing. He also showed me a liner pool black liner, black fixtures, black coping and it was gorgeous but it also had the waterfall, the rocks surrounding it, the black slate tile. Some people with a ton of money. Not me. I am just glad we are getting a liner so we can swim and the dogs can swim and the grandkids can swim and our friends can swim. No pool means too much weeding. How fun is that?
PS: Dogs don't go near the pool even visitors but I like to be cautious. Plus with young grandkids - its a concern especially after your story. heh But hoping the pool is filling by the arrival on Saturday night but I may be dreaming.
Yes, gunite pools are expensive. My parents had one at our family home and one at their "after the kids left" home. The latter had many issues. Tiles popping off from the inside of the pool, not to mention the coping tiles. You will know what I'm talking about. We did not want all the work that goes w/, from my experiences. We did not empty the pool during the winter - yes needed the water in. It was emptied in the spring, cleaned and painted - a weekend job - then filled. In fall, we lowered it to below the ceramic tiles or they'd crack and since my Dad was the son of a farmer, he had his own inventions - logs all around the edge of the pool w/ hay between them and the tiles. We skated on the pool during the winter as well. It was a great time!
Darlah - for the life of me, I've looked and can't see a part of Ringo. Where is he? :-)
