No Pool

Ziggy

Ziggy and Jazzy arrived but although we planned to swim today we are getting off and on rain.

It's warm, downright muggy but we have thunderstorms so no pool for any of us. It's not safe to swim with lightening anmd that we have.

That doesn't mean we don't have fun. We do in a big way all day long and that Nathan naps as he doesn't have the same energy as the dawgs. They nap right along with him and those that don't play with me cause I don't get naps. hahahaha

Now you know why the dogs are tired when they go home after a visit. Rain or shine we always find things to do.

Ziggy arrived and decided he was a kid in a candy store. He was in love with everyone that would play but especially with Penny and Scruffy. He reminds me that he is a Teaser son and his personality is the same. Pemmy remains to be such a wonderful Fiona pup. She goes on Wednesday and it is always a joy to have her visit.

Last night he thought 10pm, let's still play. By 11pm I said Ziggy, lay down here and we will snuggle and he fell asleep nuzzled up to me on one side and Benji on the other, Jazzy across my legs. I think my legs went numb and about 4am, I shifted them all and at 6am we got up and the photos above are what we did today. Nathan had the gals as we still have a couple of gals in heat till the end of the week.

Jazzy settled in last night and found that spot again. I have decided I am going to make him a bed of soil just so he can muck it up without laying on plants. He does love it so and it makes me happy to see him happy.

Tomorow Jazzy leaves and Mia leaves. Mia gets a bath and she needs one. :-) Too soon... I also start washing our own crew. Today. The Shoshi got a wash and she needed it!

Darlah looks like you had a full house today! Great action shots of all the shinanigans (spelling??)! Not sure how you and N keep up with them... I guess the dogs keep you young at heart! I know mine does ...

It warms my heart to see Ziggy! I'm glad Scruffs will get to play with his brother on Thursday and I hope they get to swim.....I want Scruffs to be like a little fishie in the water :-) I love to swim, it's my favorite thing in the world, even though I never took lessons and my technique sucks. I want Scruffs to have that opportunity....he may be "just a dog" to some people, but he's my little guy and i love him with all my heart! I'm going to make sure he gets to have as much fun as possible....isn't that what a Momma should do? :-)

I can hardly wait to see photos of Scruffy w/ Ziggy and hopefully swimming! I remember thinking what a clever name Ziggy's parents gave him but it's been so long since I've heard about them that I had to do a search and was reminded of who his parents are. Then I recalled how happy their daughter was for them. Such lovely families on here! :-)

Well the weather looks good on Thursday so now ziggy and scruffy are in my calendar to swim. Lori, he may love it. He may not. Who knows. It is what it is. As a parent of many each excels in different ways but we have to try to see what that is and then help them perfect it. It's the same with the dawgs.

Angie: It was a lot of fun. Jazzy and Mia goes home today. Now to keep Mia cleaned after her bath and keep Jazzy out of the mud which he so dearly wants to roll in.

DOCK DIVING! Just saw on this morning's news, Taz, the world champion dock diver. He's a 5 yr old black lab. His owner discussed how they keep him in shape. I take it that there is competition in both high and distance diving. Taz won the highest dive yet at 7 ft 2 in. Quite facinating!

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebi

I bet Scruffy and Ziggy are going to make for a very interesting get together .... I can't believe that is Ziggy - so cute of him prancing on the deck!

It's funny how all the dogs go after Nathan! .. They must remember "puppy, puppy, puppy......" :)

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

Angie - hope you are coming to the picnic next month. You will see, all he has to say is puppy, puppy, puppy and they all stop and start running towards him.

July 16, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Deb: It's how Kat learned to jump in - by going to a dock diving contest and watching but we didn't think he was watching. Terra watched more closely but she doesn't jump in.

July 16, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Yes, I remember hearing about Kat. He's one special little guy, and sooo cute! Laci loves the pool, but has yet to go in on her own, but she's still little. She walks up and pokes her nose as close to the water as she can and then just stands there and stares at us and we know she's saying . . . "Let's go swimming Mom and Dad"! That's a pretty good first step as at least we know she wants to go in! :-)

Lori: I'm very passionate about the ability to swim for all beings! I was a swimmer and did all the water sports, (why I now have sun issues) but I'm adamant that all children and pets are introduced to the water to erase fear, gain ability, acquire joy for the sport and most of all so they are safe!

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebi

Darlah ... I didn't think I should be attending the picnic as I don't "officially" have a Talemaker pups so therefore have not been taking notes of date/time/ etc..? Thanks for including me or thinking about me :) If you can kindly tell me date/time/logisitcs then I would love to come IF I can. Next month is a bit crazy for me. Thanks again Darlah

Debi / Lori --- well guess who cannot swin?! (ME :( ) I agree there there is one thing a child should take up (other than sports) is swimming simply because it is excellent excerise for the whole body and you can do it well into your golden years! Wish I wasn't so said to trying when I was young! Oh well ....

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

sorry I can't seem to spell or form a proper sentence anymore ... I was trying to say that " I wish I wasnt so scared to learn to swim when I was young!" Going on vacation with friends was alway me watching everyone else swimming in the poor or ocean ... I can fake it but people catch on once I have been in the shallow end for hours ........ :(

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

Angie. Don't feel bad. Many can't swim. I grew up around a pool and a cottage so it was imperative we all know how to swim for our own safety. That stuck w/ me and I had my kids in for lessons as early as possible and then told them when they had their kids, that we can all teach them to swim, but they must have professional lessons so we can feel confidence when they are around water. I don't rest yet. Not likely till they're 12 or so, but it's a work in progress.

Back to dogs! It was cute over the weekend when one of the boys commented on how Laci learned to swim so young. I pondered over the mystery w/ them why puppies instinctively know how to swim and usually do when put in the water (instant dog paddle) but human babies need to be taught. Why is that??? :-)

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebi

Angie: The picnic started at our home and then moved to Yvonnes as we ran out of room. But all havanese are welcomed from any breeder. Talemaker and Chicadoro are the hosts but Penny who is a relatively new breeder also comes. Sometimes Yvonne's friend Bea Sawka comes who is a breeder (and sometimes brings her pups to sell) and people show up with havanese from us or other breeders. It is true that the majority are usually Talemaker pups (we get the largest amount of people that attend) but there are others and all are welcomed. See http://www.talemakerhavanese.com/annual-havanese-picnic/2012/5/3/havanese-picnic-2012.html Sorry but our puppies will not be there. Without shots and having so many dogs at the picnic, I wouldn't take such a chance that they wouldn't get sick. Adult dogs are not susceptible to things that unvaccinated pups are. So, I hope you understand. Some this year are coming dogless and one woman comes with bolognese and her havanese. Expect to see her new bolognese puppy. You should come. It's fun.

Human babies the instinct is not to paddle in water. :-) It is a learned behavior.

All dogs can swim but some are nervous like humans so they tend to sink. If you can get them over that fear then they will swim. Now whether they like it or not is a different story.

Roxie leaps off the stairs now to swim. She was not a strong swimmer when she started like Spice who started out strong but she has a total love for it. Due to that she has become a stronger swimmer and a more confident one. Once she became confident she started leaping off the stairs. She always felt secure on the mat so we began with that.

Darlah - What is a Bolognese? Never heard tell of such a dog . . . just my fave sauce LOL. Do they derive from Italy? I must google a photo . . . :-)

July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebi

So I looked up bolognese and Debi, you are right, they come from Italy. Interesting that they are a bichon type and related to the Maltese. Havanese, Maltese, bolognese, bichon.....seems like they are all related somehow.

July 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLori

Lori, did you see a picture? I will look them up for sure. I believe the Au Coton Tulear(sp?) is related to the Bichon (and perhaps all the others) as well. Having had 2 Bichons, I knew they came from Tunneriffe, Cuba and from what I've read so do the Havanese.

July 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebi

Lori - I just looked up photos and they are sooo cute! They look so much like the Bichon that it will be interesting to find out just what the difference is. The Au Coton is predominantly white as well, but w/ more obvious apricot tones. They also have long bodies and short legs. What I like about the Havanese is the wide variety of colours . . . after having 2 pure white dogs, Laci's colouring was exactly what I was hoping for and is a lovely change. I also like the Hav's silky hair. :-)

Darlah, thank you so much for the link and lowdown on the picnic! Sounds like fun day for canine and humans alike! I will check out the website for details etc.
I must say that bolognese does sound very interesting ... must look it up just to get a visual in my head! Thanks again

July 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

The bolognese although some say are related as it is in the bichon family there is a lot of confusion. I am not sure. The bolognese have a coton de tulear hair - cotton, very tight curls like a bichon. They are generally smaller than the havanese and as a whole a little more maltese like in personality. Personally, I like the havanese and find them more well balanced. They are not registerable with the CKC at the moment. It is very important for this owner to see her dog as in the same family as the Havanese. I am telling you this as she will discuss it with you or tell you. :-) She imported hers from Europe but there are breeders in the states. She wanted a direct descendent of her late dog.

July 17, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Does the Bolognese speak Italian? We can have a chat. LOL

July 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLori

No I think she got hers from the Netherlands - may be wrong. I would have to look. It's a cute dog but although she has 5 dogs she has never had a puppy so its a learning experience for her. She is delighted so I am delighted for her.

July 17, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

A friend has a maltese and I do agree with Darlah .. that's all I will say on that :)

July 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

:-)

July 17, 2012 | Registered CommenterDarlah

Lori, I'm sure they do, but they seem to pick up all languages rather quickly, especially baby talk from we doggie crazies! :-)
