Day 8 Havanese Motherhood
Well, a week has gone by and tonight it will be day 8. I do believe I have this motherhood thing going on. Mommy thinks other than the cute havanes puppies chomping on my hair, it's doing quite well.
I am eating well, snuggling with the pups but these havanese pups don't seem to play with the toys I give them. Mommy says to be patient. They will.
Mommy is going out to the land of the living and getting my photograph of me preggie matted that Maureen and John were so kind to give to her as a present. She's also going to get a photo reframed in mahogany to match our others from Pepi and Teddy's mom - their thanks for watching them this summer. Can't wait to see them on the wall.
Mommy's been busy uploading new photos to snapfish all the time. Look at the menu on the right and click on Wasabi's Puppy Photos to see the latest. Mom's not editing. She's putting everything up - me a mess after I nest in my box and shake my hair into the place I want it to be to mom after combing me. When the pups get older, we will take videos to share as well. This way we create some memories. After all, this is my first crew and there's always something special about the first but shhh don't tell that to any others. Something special about the last too - yeah - they are the LAST.
Well, other than my escape past mom and dad last night to gad knows where in the back to nest, things have been going rather well. Tails are wagging so I know they are happy and life - well its rather special and precious with a havanese or two on your life and I have 6 - WOW!
Week Old Havanese
Well my babies are 7 days old tonight. This is what mommy calls the Havanese huddle. Mom and dad are trying to get me to relax when my puppies do this.
They are sleeping for longer bursts and mom and dad likes to make sure I am taken care of. It's times like this she makes sure I eat, go out and do my duty, grooms me and cuddles with me as she feels if I am happy, the puppies will be happy. I agree!
Daddy finally calmed down last night and slept a bit in my whelping room instead of watching me 24/7. He's finally starting to get it that I got this motherhood thing down. So what if he had 7 kids - I already have 6.
My puppies are growing well. They have fat tummies after eating and you can tell they are satisfied by the amount of sleep we do inbetween. Still, El Blanco Grande and mom's new name for another - 'have to chow down like no tomorrow - Bigote' seems to zone into me whenever I am in the box so I get out now and cool off and I go back in when needed.
At birth their respective weights were:
5 oz (he doubled)
5 oz - up 3 oz (our lone gal - gaining but slower)
4 oz - up 4 oz (he doubled)
4 oz - up 5 oz (more than doubled)
4 oz - up 5 oz (more than doubled)
4 oz - up 6 oz - passing the white one - heh
Gad, it's easy to fall in love with this crew.
Havanese Puppy Characters
It's Day 6 and already personalities are starting to come out. The white one that mommy calls so fondly El Blanco Grande, well she is starting to think she can create an entire comic strip on him. He can always be found eating up a storm and if someone else has milk left, well oops did I push you out of the way - well let me just taste - you do share with your siblings don't you? From one to the next he plows all others down all in the name of that great liquid refreshment but not all of them is taken such totally laying down. The competition thang has already begun as you can see one is on top of El Blanco Grande saying, 'my turn and don't you forget it!' But did he move...nah - he's the big white one and he's already taken the course, 'Havanese Assertiveness Class 101'
The class has JUST BEGUN and we will see who has their way as the class rolls on.
Me, other than being exhausted at all this chowing down on my body, I am enjoying the little ones. I can't wait till they play with toys. I tried to play with them with my squeakie toy yesterday but no takers yet! Don't these dogs know how to have fun? Are you sure they are mine? ROFL!
Proud Human Havanese Dad Speaks Out
Wasabi has always been our best moving Havanese. If I was to pick one dog in our home that was truly poetry in motion, it is our Wasabi. She also has a very calm personality. Sheโll run and play and has always loved the puppies but she wonโt get too excited about it. She's a thinker. No one can escape her. In 'run-like-hell' games no one can get away from Wasabi when she gets in the mood, except now maybe Kat.
I noticed the other day that over the course of the summer our little boy became very sleek, very muscular, from swimming with me every day. Wasabi was the second most prolific swimmer.
Yesterday Shoshi, who has always put on strong bursts of speed to escape, couldn't get away from Kat when they played 'run-like-hell' as he matched her burst for burst. Risa doesn't even try. She waits for him to go bombing by after Shoshi and cuts him off and they both go flying. It's a riot. He runs in these large very fast circles and Risa watches him for a second, then cuts across his line diagonally.
I also notice now that Risa can no longer overpower Kat when the two of them are up on their back legs playing with each other.
Meanwhile, Wasabi comes outside to do her business and all the dogs are excited to see her. Who can blame them?
Havanese Wasabi Day 5 Watching Pups
This used to be my all time fave place to tease Risa's pups and now I am using it to watch in amazement. I wonder if when they get bigger, Risa will tease mine. We shall see. Time will tell.
We had a visitor yesterday to see our pups. Alex dropped in to say hello and stayed for a bit. He was amazed at how good I look - nice and shiny as if mommy washed me but she can't due to my stitches. Still, this motherhood thing is doing my body good.
All pups are up in weight. I am becoming comfie maneuvering around the pups. I am keeping them clean, feeding them and sometimes I simply stare at them like I am doing here. I just can't believe this miracle - 1 girl, 5 boys.
Day 4 Havanese Motherhood
I am getting more comfie these days jumping in and out to eat and drink and nest in my other box. Mommy even took some of me with just my head sticking out but they aren't great quality. I am really enjoying watching the pups and seeing them move but when mommy puts them in that sling to weigh them or does that program to help them be all they can be, well let's just say I am learning to let mom play with them too!
Day One Havanese Pups
Mommy found this on her camera stick that she forgot was taken the night we got home - brand spankin' new.
We haven't named any yet but mommy keeps calling one tux as it looks like it has a tux with tails on and how so appropriate for a Havanese - a class act!
Mommy says tomorrow, after we weigh everyone including me, that we will put up individual photos. She's been saying that every day - geez!
Finally a Relaxin' Havanese Puppies and Mom
Here I am with my pups finally relaxing enough to snooze. Daddy is cooking steak for me - yum! Pups are all gaining and a couple is chowing down so much that daddy is making sure I eat right - mom too.
Mommy put the other half of my whelping box together so I had a place to nest but still watch the little ones. That made me WAY happy.
I just heard that my other mom Rita from Sonrisas Havanese is coming tomorrow - am I excited or what!
Havanese Wasabi Finally Resting
It's day 3 now and my precious pups are eating, lively and really amazing.
Mommy and Daddy stay in with me and make sure I am eating, going out to do my duty and taking care of the pups. I am a natural but mom still does these silly things like taking each and counting so this way I can keep track by counting myself. This is what Risa did and this way when they get bigger and go outside, I can count to make sure all of them is in eye sight even though our backyard is closed in and safe, mommy and daddy always count. They did this with their human kids and they do it now. Katsuro counts when we all come in. Risa used to but she lets Katsuro do it lately.
I can see mommy and daddy are already teaching me and I will be teaching the pups so they can be all they can be.
Well I just ate. Mommy has cold toast and cold coffee but I am all good. Heh, Daddy is in bed finally sleeping. All is good on day 3. Wow day 3 already!
Sire: R'Gang's Buster At Rockhurst Sent Wasabi an Email
Sire: R'Gang's Buster At Rockhurst - that stunning guy sent me an email (how thoughtful) and his photo so I would always remember him. In it, he said...
I'm out-a-here!....
Well done Wasabi...5 little Busters! hmmmmmm! and 1 little Wasabi...
you rock Wasabi!
Hope to see you again...:))
Land of the Living Havanese Puppies
Well look what I got? Tails, tails, tails sticking out everywhere. I have a hungry crew but quiet. They only fuss if I go outside to do my duty or move. Am I lucky, or what? Good pups right from the start and snuggles not just next to my tummy but a few love to cuddle up to my neck and just sleep so contented. It makes me feel sooooo good.
Momma Rita bought me this cute bow and mom just put it in to make me feel dawg - sort of like feeling human again but we furry things feel like dawgs again. heh
Mom and dad are giving me pedialyte with ice in it. None of that warm stuff, you hear. I am a pampered gal even more so than that Paris Hilton human creature - hahaha and better looking, don't you think?
Now where am I getting such crazy ideas? Well, mom had that TMZ show on TV - gad. It's bad enough she mocks up pages on these celebs but she has to listen to it too - tsk tsk. Well, by listening to it, I know how good I really have it - no worries about bad fashion, good fashion, am I preggie or not - hey I shout that stuff out instead of hiding it. Be proud gals.
Well, off to get my sanity break. Mom says I am blogging it too much. A gal has to speak her mind - no?
Attentive New Havanese Mom Wasabi
Well day 2 and I am still taking catnaps but I just can't get enough of these miracles I had. They are lively. They eat and snuggle with me and those snuggles - well they are really what makes it all worth it.
As you can see, I have an incision that is healing nicely and pink hair from the operation but all and all mom is doing her usual taking care of me. She has yet to comb me today but she wants me to sleep. She even put in a thin mat so I can lay my head down but I am too excited to do anything but snooze for a few minutes.
Mom is going to take individual photos of us later today when we are all rested. We figure you don't mind that we get rested first. Mom and dad says my pups and I count the most.
Wasabi Havanese End of Day 1
Here I am - I am back. Mommy has had to fill in for me while I was busy getting these beauties to make a debut in this world. When my pack mates have peeked in, I protect my little ones but also point to them with my mouth and show how proud I am. I did this - wow!
Mom and dad are busy taking care of me, making sure I know what to do. They weigh the little ones, make sure each is feeding and rotate them so I don't get extra sore. They are making sure I have the very best food, Pedialyte too so I replenish my electrolytes all so the babies can be all they can be.
Daddy is going to sleep with me tonight - well on the couch next to me but I doubt he will sleep till mommy gets up.
Mommy says I am going to love when they are walking. I can't wait and neither can they.
This Havanese Creates Tales or Tails (Ha!)
Well, I like to keep everyone on their toes to make sure they are exhausted when my puppies make their debut.
Last night I went into panting for 1.5 hours and then I stopped and said - nope - it's not time yet. So, everyone focuses on me and nothing happens except I get all the attention. The humans act really strange and I shake my head saying - well we have to have drills don't we? I have to be sure YOU are ready.
Are the humans ready? I think they are more than ready and me, well I am just hanging out all bloated and getting pampered and enjoying it. Wouldn't you? Mommy looks like she hasn't had sleep for eons but maybe she will take a nap instead of lunch and I will snuggle with her and make up for keeping my mom and dad and other mom up all night.
We shall see.
Havanese Wasabi Can Swim Too!
Hey, this is me - Wasabi who happens to be a swimming maniac. I jump in too when I have my druthers and swim with grace.
See, Katsuro is not the only one that knows how to swim around this place. All Havanese can swim but it's all in how you introduce them to it that makes a difference. Some totally love it like Katsuro (see his video below).
The video is when he first started jumping in but by summer's end, he was AMAZING) . He was jumping without prompting, running and jumping halfway across the pool and loving every minute of it but mommy found this video and just started to learn how to convert the Sony video file to an .avi and splice and edit. She'll get better and find better copy.
Some love it when they want to like me - Wasabi and some tolerate it like my packmate Shoshi. Just like humans, we are all different but have a pool - we can swim!
Best part is when my pups come, mommy can take videos and edit them. Mommy just put this video up to show you we can jump and swim and she had to figure it all out before the pups come. I am still holding on. Any takers for the weekend being the big day?
Havanese Do Swim & Dive
Well here I am watching my packmate swim and jump in but guess what, he's not the only one who does such things. I, Wasabi do as well especially when I was early on in my pregnancy. You can see me watching with pride while Katsuro jumps to daddy. Daddy has a knack for getting us swimming. He's the best!
Bloated Havanese Ready & Waiting
Well, another day passes and mom is making sure I stay clean. I got all dirty after going out with the pups yesterday and I can't resist going into the mud. But mom brushed me up yesterday. Today she placed me on my back to start brushing and feeling pups and then she had the nerve to take an exposed photo like this. Come on, mom - I know Paris Hilton thrives on exposure but me...I am a lady. I guess Paris may say how can you compare me to a dog but if you have to - well I am the genuine thing and she should be lucky to be compared to me. ROFL!
The only Havanese that is owned by a celebrity to my mom's knowledge is Barbara Walters and hers talks - yeah you heard it. Well shh - we all talk but it's those humans that don't know how to listen. I hear the pups talking to me all the time from my tummy and they were saying - 'it's getting too crowded here' - 'stop rubbing her tummy lady' - 'you are squishing us' - 'it's time to get out of this darken, wet place where all my needs are met to seek a new adventure.' Yeah - I heard them and are you going to tell me I am wrong? A mother always knows. Just wait till they get here. They will tell you! Any day now....all six.
