Havanese Runs

Running with the HavaneseYou've heard about that practice called 'Running with the Bulls' but have you heard about the Running with the Havanese'?

Well, the weather is now here and Nathan is doing his best to get the dawgs excited and running their fool heads off. Well, maybe his off not the dawgs.

The Havanese can run circles around him without even trying. That's not to say Nathan can't run fast but have you ever seen a Havanese run? It's amazing!

Well, I spent most of the day up with the puppies today. Nathan spent it with the gang.

I just came down, groomed a Havanese or two then went back upstairs and did that throughout the day.

I look forward to the puppies coming downstairs into my office. Three more weeks and counting - or maybe 2.5. hehehehe

The weather is gorgeous but I feel like it passed me by.

Thursday 3 go home in the morning so late tomorrow night I get to bathe then before bed. One of Fiona's kids comes for a couple of days and Remy joins us. We also have Scout leaving us come this weekend.

March Break is coming to a close and in the 2nd week of April we may be back to just our own.

It all goes by so fast...doesn't it?

No Bark: And Can you Pose Havanese Style?

Nathan talking to some of the crewIt's a gorgeous day out and sometimes you just have to laugh. Nathan is saying 'no bark' as someone next door was playing cutsie pie-ish with their grandchild and it got our crew going.

He also got this idea through his head to pose them and did anyone cooperate?

The crew has been enjoying the great outdoors but it also means they hear the dog from around the block howling and sometimes some want to hear their own voice making noise.

It gives us the opportunity to correct and reinforce that 'no bark' rule. It takes doing it over and over as it is always someone different starting it and you have to shut down the culprit that started it all. But if you keep at it, and they know you are serious, it all works.

Check out today's photos titled, Smashing Fun.

Another Havanese Leaves Us Sniff Sniff!

Towser in the MiddleHere is Towser in the middle. He was always in the thick of things having a grand time. He was such an expressive boy and always knew how to grasp the fun factor.

Check out today's photos called Dry Fun Finally.

One of his best pals was Scout. But he also played with Zack, Jasper, Chico and Rufus. It's been a riot this week. I am loving the photos they are giving me and the snuggles and the laughter.

Wednesday, Penny comes for the day one of Fiona's puppies and Remy who is a regular. Then on Friday some of the rest will be going home.

I didn't get the crew brushed out till 430pm today. Oh well, do you see dawgs unbrushed - hehehe Two minutes after they are they try to look that way anyway. Still, I get them done - just not in the morning like I like.

It was a pretty spectacular day out. It was warm and dry and the dawgs ran around like crazy and I loved it.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Fiona & Katsura's Daughter at the Purina National

Fiona's Daughter Kit KatYesterday Talemaker N Aslans Kit Kat got reserve winner and today she got Best of Winners. This is her first show. She is a few days over six months old. We are very excited and so is her owner, Val Weston. Way, to go, Val and Kitzie (Val's pet name for her).

Gad that dawg just adores Val and that's how it should be.

Today Saki, Marlee and Jazmyn went home. Saki brought over her best crinkle hiding bag as a gift to the puppies. Thank you, Saki!

We will miss Marlee and Jazmyn. Marlee really played up a storm today. I was worried her hair would end up dirty but I would like to say it was her intentionally keeping clean but no - it was a MIRACLE. hehehe

Jazmyn has ended up being the very best snuggler. She's also feeling way comfie as she is playing and playing and when Coco Beans wanted the top of the couch, Jazmyn took a toy and shook it and Coco jumped down and Jazmyn took her spot. They are just so like kids, don't you think?

Scout is the funniest dog you ever did see. Between him and Towser, they were rolling all over the place and sometimes Towser was on top and other times Scout was. You have to see the size difference to appreciate it as Scout is just a wee puppy with the spirit called fun loving. Check out today's photos called Fun Lovin' Play to see what I mean.

Zack and Towser and Marlee were playing bigtime today but Nathan had the camera at the show.

Will it ever stop raining?

The two eight month old brothers, Chico and Jasper, were playing rather well but Saki, one of their sisters, was clearly the boss. She just told them what to do and they listened. Saki was like that when she was 8 weeks old so why would anything change? It was great to see them all together. Did they act like they knew each other? Absolutely and Wasabi was thrilled that they were here. I found that interesting.

Rufus was mixing it up with Treasure, Jasper and Chico today and sometimes Marlee. I caught it on video but don't ask me to convert it today. We had all but 3 hours of sleep. Our old lady Golden Retriever, 14 years young, had tummy problems and we had a puppy with an upset tummy and NO SLEEP. I may crawl into bed and take a nap.

No Sunny Havanese Day

Out in the RainWell Saki came today for an overnighter and goes home tomorrow. Marlee and Jazmyn will be heading home tomorrow as well. The rest of the crew will be hanging around for a bit and hopefully the sun will shine. hehehe They say not till Monday or Tuesday.

Due to boarders and puppies, we were unable to go to the Purina National to watch Fiona's daughter show for her first time. She just turned 6 months and got reserve today. We are excited! Nathan will be heading there tomorrow to watch and take Kit Kat and Val and her crew home.

You should drop by the show tomorrow to watch the Havanese. Read all about the show on our events page.

I will be holding down the fort with our son.

The crew is really bonding. Scout can be caught jumping on Towser. Scout's a small puppy and Towsers bigger so it is way fun to watch. It was Scout that persisted and Towser finally complied.

Check out today's photos on the boarders and visitors photo page.

You will see Saki and her siblings - yes we have 3 siblings here. Plus the rest of the crew.

Towser is such a funny bandit. He can grab something from our son and then look at him as if to say - who me?

Lots of funny stories today but I got to get back to the crew. Just know they are all having a swimmingly wet time. Everyone gets groomed but the photos don't look that way. In, out, wet, dry, wet, dry and on and on it goes. It took me a long time to get everyone done as when I was halfway through they were wet and muddy again. All you can do is laugh and laugh and we do.

But I have to say, where is that sun?

Wet & Dry Days Havanese Style

Dry CrewIt started out as a dry day. Scout slept all the way till 630 and was raring to go. Marlee was playing like a banshee and Jazmyn was snuggling in the bed with Terra, our golden.

Jasper and Chico was playing like they were long lost brothers. heh

Rufus decides to eat faster than lightening so he can play with the boys.

Then our regulars Zack and Coco came in and then a new dog Towser. We didn't manage to get photos of Towser yet as I was busy drying dawgs and I had already pulled photos off for the photo gallery. I figure drying dawgs was more important but look for photos of him tomorrow along with Saki that is coming for an overnight visit.

We also had a dawg yank a bag off the counter but I caught it and back on the counter further away from the edge it went. We won't name names here. But no worries, no dietary indiscretions and beyond it hitting the floor, they didn't have time to get into it. :-)

We Crew

Here's part of the crew when it first started raining but it got much worse.

Dawgs have to be walked and brought out to get some energy out of them and do their business. It's not fair to the dawgs if we put pads on the floor and expect them to expel all their energy inside.

Both inside and outside is important. So that's what they get and I just dry and dry and brush and brush. hehehehe

Really they were nicely brushed THIS morning. If you look at the latest photos, you will see their feet wet. It's days like this that the work never ends but it's wonderful when you have a dog like Towser laying on my box under my desk snoozing on my foot. It makes all the work worthwhile.

Now off to snuggle.

Oh My, What a Havanese Day

Rufus Wants Food You should see eating time. Yes, we have them eat in the same room and I monitor one side and Nathan monitors the other side of the room. We want everyone eating their own food not everyone else's.

Nathan is the food guy and prepares it all. I am the one that usually but not always cleans the dishes after they are done.

With puppies we are taking turns doing things when usually we are all doing it together. The only thing different is our son takes a shift when we have puppies. He's doing the night time and we are sleeping with the visitors and our crew. Then usually I take over puppy duty in the morning and Nathan takes over visitors and our crew in the morning while the son sleeps.

It all works. Then when the son gets up he starts walking dogs. This way nothing changes just different times for things. Without puppies I groom in the morning but with puppies I groom in the afternoon.

Check out today's photos.

But then when it is nasty on the streets, all that grooming is almost for nothing when they come back with a black underside from their walks but it's only dirt so I give them another brush and baths come before they go home.

Well today we had a really good game of retrieve going on with Scout, Chico and Jasper. Jasper usually has this huge chesire grin when he gets the toy.

Scout got up at 4am to do his business and wouldn't go back to sleep so we will try to get him to do it at 11pm tonight. Will it work? I don't know but we are creative here. What is sleep anyway. ROFL!!

That is what dawg living is about. You adjust and get creative and laugh.

All of the visitors was playing today as the ice is finally completely melting. Tomorrow the forecast is rain and more rain till Sunday night. Think about that grooming. It's okay. I am getting way good in how long I can get each done thoroughly. I won't cut corners but I guess the more you do, the faster you get.

Tomorrow Towser, Zack and Coco comes. More fun...and then Saturday Saki comes over night then Sunday some of our visitors start going home.

Crazy Dawg Life Havanese Style

Jasper, Rufus, Marlee, Chico

It's a full house today and we are having a blast.

We had Scout, a 6 month cutie that looks like Shoshi and Rufus a regular join us today. Rufus you can see is in the middle of the crew playing in this photo.

The rest of the crew you can find in the 2 top galleries on the boarders and visitors photo page. Be sure to check both out and you will see some great photos.

Who is mixing it up? Jasper and Chico, the brothers seem to really enjoy each other. Scout enjoys all. Rufus loves all but rather loves that Treasured one. Marlee is one of the guys playing her fool head off with all and Jazmyn is enjoying Fiona and Shoshi. it all changes from day to day.

Everyone got groomed today. I really needed to bathe Kat but he can wait another day. We have too much melting stuff going on that feet are constantly getting that dirty look but that's what baths and brushes are for. A bath would make no sense unless he was going home. But he is at home. hehe

You shoudl see feeding time. I promise to try to get a photo tomorrow. The crew just finished eating a bit ago.

Chico kept me up all last night deciding to walk all over my body. It happens. I got a nap in today. It wasn't a long one but I feel much better. Tonight we are hoping he is so exhausted that he sleeps all night or we may be splitting up the crew. Our son with the pups, me in one room with some of the crew and Nathan in the other. We shall see, We rather enjoy the same room but at times we do this to make sure everyone sleeps well. Tonight we shall see.

Till tomorrow....now off to update the puppy blog.

New Visitors

Jasper & Chico Chico came to visit us and he happens to be Jasper's brother and then on Saturday, Saki their sister will be visiting. How cool is that?

We also have a couple of more visitors but we will fill you in as they come.

Things are starting to get back to normal. 5.5 hours of sleep vs. none or a couple. It feels good.

The weather is gorgeous and maybe starting tomorrow I wil go back to daily slide shows for you.

Marlee and Jazmyn are wonderful. Marlee falls all over Nathan and Jazmyn snuggles with me the best.

New moms are doing well. Life is unfolding and we are really enjoying the boarders, our crew and the puppies. More tomorrow.

Two of the Havanese Guys Leaving Us Today

Weaver Loving the RunWeaver is the first to leave us about 1pm.

We are going to miss the guy. He has been bathed and spruced up and wow the house will change without all of the guys.

Weaver found his place with all playing like a banshee. He especially loved the retrieval games and the running and walks.

We are going to miss him.

The house changes whenever a bunch goes home at once.

Charlie yesterday, today Weaver and then Jay tonight.

Jay After Bath

Now what will we do without Jay?

Jay is in love with Treasure. Wherever Jay was, Treasure was always.

It was rare moments that this occurred. We did walks with others just to give him a chance to bond with the others and it worked but there was something intoxicating about Treasure.

I think she will have less knots not wearing Jay but to watch them enjoy each other was delightful. He will be missed and I do believe Treasure will probably shed a tear and then start back playing with Fiona. We shall see.

Tomorrow we get Chico, Jasper's brother and it will be a delight to see the boys together plus we will have played recovery fully. hehehe

Ah puppies... Now to get grooming done, rinse and clean up Wasabi and play with the crew.

Charlie Leaves Us Today

CharlieUnfortunately Charlie leaves us today. We have had a BLAST with the guy. It's been a true boys week and 2 more go home tomorrow.

We had puppies today - Abigails. So, no photos though I did take some of the crew - just no time to edit until I have the computer moved upstairs and who knows Wasabi could change everything by having puppies tomorrow. We shall see.

All 3 of us are taking shifts. I hope you understand as everyone counts here.

Till tomorrow.

Sunsational Havanese Moments

Charlie in Air & Jasper Playing WE had a glorious amount of play today and I was able to catch some of it.

Check out Sunsational Moments on the Visitors & Boarders Photo page. The weather is good. The crew was in rare form running and playing like crazy.

Temps dropped with the 2 gals so I did extra early baths for those visitors going home tomorrow in case whelping gets in the way. This way I can just freshen up vs. spend a couple of hours on each dog. Usually I do it the morning of but we usually aren't whelping puppies either. This way it gives me time to just freshen them up vs. 2 hours each dog. It usually takes me so long as I brush as I am drying then line comb each dog everywhere making sure all knots are out. With 2 of thevisitors blowing coat, it is a huge job but I get then knot free daily. With baths its more work as you line comb them before and line comb them after drying vs. just grooming.

This ahead of schedule is not a usual but we have no idea how long it will take to whelp, if both gals will happen at the same time or one will go for 12 hours then the other begins. It happens.

The son is taking a nap and so is Nathan in case it's a long cycle and I may later on. We shall see.

But we have our visitors and the shifts all in place so everyone's needs are met. Today or tomorrow...who knows but time will tell.

While we are waiting, we will be doing games of retrieve, play and a new game - find the treat.

Till later...

Marlee & Jazmyn Arrives Today

Wasabi, Marlee & WeaverMarlee and Jazmyn are regular visitors and we really have fun with them. Marlee is this fun, pounce on the guys and play type and Jazmyn is this amazing cuddler. Each came in and owned the place as if they have been here many times before. It is nice to see.

Marlee is really enjoying the guys but Charlie goes home on Sunday and Jay and Weaver on Monday. That's okay. Jasper will be here and then Scout and Chico arrives.

To see a few of today's photo, check out the Boarders and Visitors section.

What have we done today? Grooming - always grooming daily. We watched some ninja movie. Well, the guys liked it. hehehe We played retrieve but have to be careful doing it outside as it is filled with ice. But temps are supposed to go up to 8c. Hooray.

Eating was a sight for sore eyes watching everyone eat together. Weaver still doesn't like his dental food but a dab of tripe will get him eating. We have tried to eat next meal but he holds out.

Everyone else is eating up a storm. Weaver does too when it is to his liking.

At this moment that I am typing, everyone is laying snoozing as we just came in from a play session.

Bedtime will be fun. We already took the gals upstairs and Marlee was running around like she just broke into a treat store. It was a riot and Jazmyn looked around to say -- ah...the sleep zone.

Will we have pups tomorrow...I am trying to wait till Monday night oh about 8pm all in a matter of an hour or so. hahahahahaha

Taking Photos of Havanese

Jasper  It can be a hit or miss depending on the players.

We always take photos after baths and Jasper well, was rolling and doing anything but pose. Our Wasabi does the same.

I have to laugh when they do such things. Nathan can either try or I do but the reality is you have to catch them in the moment.

You can't create the moment.

They are the artists here. They are not Havanese models doing just what you want... well some of them look like they are but you get the point.

But they make amazing subjects when they get into their groove and run and play. There's nothing like the movement in a Havanese.

We really enjoy them too. We laugh and laugh. There's always something each day that brings a smile and I rather like that. What would life be without a Havanese or two or three? I don't even want to imagine.

Just laughing

Nathan always seems to get down on the ground with the crew and they truly enjoy that he does.

Check out some of the photos from today to see what I mean.

Today I am almost better... the stuffiness won't go but the dawgs are ever so happy that I am back. Me too!

Now the puppies can come. How about Monday or Tuesday? Yeah, like we can plan such things.

Yeah Jazmyn and Marlee come tomorrow. Are we going to have fun or what!

Feeling Better Fun

Visitors & Risa & TreasureToday the crew had a lot of fun. I was feeling better. Not 100% but almost there. So, we had lots of time to play games while Nathan went out on errands now that I was mostly alive.

Check out today's photos.

We went inside and out and played and played. Jasper seems to be as much of a master at retrieve as Treasure is.

Jay is still smitten with Treasure but he is also enjoying boys week. With so many boys, Jasper, Weaver, and Charlie visiting, well Jay is finding fun with the guys and Weaver is starting to find fun with the gals as well.

Eating is a funny event where dawgs are doing twists of excitement. One has a dental food and he's not crazy about it but they stil all get excited that it's time to eat.

Grooming is a gathering all waiting their turn so they can get a treat. I get them all looking good and this melt has them looking ah interesting. But at least they don't have knots. I may be washing Jasper tomorrow as he is blowing his coat to keep his knots to a minimal.

Then on Friday we look forward to Jazmyn and Marlee returning. They always fit in so well. Then starting on Sunday, Charlie leaves us then Weaver and Jay. Lots of baths but Jasper will be with us for a bit.

Off to play a bit more and settle in to watching some TV together. Catch you tomorrow.

Another Melting Havanese Day

Jay With Weaver, Treasure Looks OnOkay, the Havanese are not melting. It's the snow but I assume you 'get' what I mean. I am still sick. Aren't you bloody sick of hearing THAT? I sure am.

I am grooming all of the dogs. Jasper wasn't crazy over his arm pits and Weaver finally got the idea that he gets a treat at the end and has started coming to me each day when I start getting my tools ready. Or maybe it's the mini massages I give. I sure could use one. hahahaha

Well, I promised photos as I wasn't up to it and I wasn't up to it today either. Sorry but Nathan took some photos. I have a few mixed in but the majority are his. We are a team. (Nathan here: If we are a team, how come she's apologizing for me taking the pictures?) Our son pitches in with the daily walks. Nathan took photos and his usual games and poo patrol and snuggling. Me, I did the grooming, snuggling, playing as much retrieve as I could till the head was saturated with sweat.

We also had puppy people visitors and I was unable to meet them as no one should get this. Usually if I am upstairs I can hear every sound but almost 3 hours later I woke from a sound sleep and didn't hear a thing. I guess my body needed it. I am hoping with this sweating that the crud is leaving me so I can go back to feeling alive. I need to feel alive for the dawgs and besides we have puppies coming.

Everyone is bonding and enjoying each other. Relationships develop, change and evolve. The group is really starting to mesh. Charlie is no longer jumping on my chest when I am on the recliner but sits looking at me and when he does, I pick him up and snuggle and he settles in for a snuggle/snooze. Positive reward for the right behavior.

The crew enjoyed the company, the play and are now all resting after eating. Weaver is still not crazy about his dental food but we are being creative getting him to eat it.

Fast Havanese Update

WeaverSorry, I am still sick. Hoping it goes any day now but it's holding on.

No photos today. It's just been very busy and I am not up to it but I will make up for it tomorrow, I promise.

Weaver is one of our visitors. He really likes Charlie, one of our other visitors.

He likes the rest but they always connect with one more than another the first few days and then they open up more of the playing field. He really likes Nathan as his human.

Oh, he likes me too but he's over the top with Nathan. It might be that Nathan lays on the floor with them and I can't do that feeling like I do.

I know..excuses....

Let's talk about the rest of the gang. Jay is visiting and is totally smitten with Treasure. He really enjoys her company as much as he can. It's funny as it was an instant thing as soon as he arrived. Treasure loves them all though. Jay has really started to find his fun here and listens ever so well when called or you say no. You don't even have to say it loud.

Jasper is also visiting and he reminds me a little of his grandma Risa, a little of mom, Wasabi, and a little of his dad, Kat. He's such a happy go lucky puppy, loving all. He likes the guys and the gals - just play and all is right in his world. He also has a wonderful (Wasabi texture) coat that has been well maintained and allowed to grow. You know how much we love long coats here.

Then we have Charlie. He's a master jumper. It doesn't matter who is in that recliner, he's up there in the midst of them. We are teaching him not to pounce on your chest. With me being sick, it sort of knocks the wind out of me. But he's learning and we are doing it in a positive way. Charlie loves all the dawgs - a happy go lucky guy.

We mix it up on who walks with whom and they all adore their walks. They love retrieve.

Usually we don't have so many boys at once but we are enjoying the interactions and the hugs and the kisses and everything. More tomorrow when I feel better.

In and Out Havanese Moments

Hey, what about us?There's something about a pack of Havanese. Do they ever get in synch? In out, in out, in, out. You yell, outside, outside and half the pack comes then you go back for the stragglers and then even more stragglers and then you say - well if you aren't coming then you mustn't want to go out but they do on THEIR time. hehehehe

When it's our pack we don't play that game. You snooze you lose or so they say but we look at those faces and one of us says - okay let them out. We are sucks. We really try to make our lives easier but dawgs are dawgs and they beat to their own drum always it seems.

Have you ever had a group of teenagers agree on anything? Well, there you have it... a group of Havanese can't either unless it's so inviting they can't live without it.

Check out today's photos. There's not many as I am under the weather. I can't shake it but I am trying...soup and meds and yes I have to go out and take photos and wash dogs. But I will get there.

Tia, Sydney, Coco and Zack went home today. 4 in one day...wow does that change a house. Then Weaver came when Tia was leaving.

We are all sitting around, Nathan draped in dawgs, me with a couple typing watching the game. Yeah Canada hockey ...sorry US. The dawgs are snoozing after I took them out a few times running and playing. It's slush out there. <sigh> Lots of dawgs to dry.

Nathan got in a mini nap oh about 15 minutes that he sorely needed. The boys were playing up a storm all night but we are hoping for sleep tonight. Time will tell.

Jay is settling in and sleeping and Charlie still wants to entice everyone to play all night. Boys... what can I say. They all eventually get over the excitement. That's what it is. They have to get that sleep is required too.

Jay is smitten with Treasure. I do believe he believes she's the gal for him. Jasper is a kisser trying to woo all the gals and Charlie just wants to play and play and so does Weaver. What a boys week we wil have.

But the gals think they rule but we shall see.... Now back to the hockey game.

Havanese Soaked Fun

Wasabi & Katsura Watching the CrewToday was a totally soaked day filled with so much fun. It was a in and out event. They came in, we dried, they went back out and on and on and on. It was worth it to see them so happy.

Check out today's photos.

Last night we split up the crew. Nathan with some, I with some. We found it works when you have a full house, as we do.

Nathan had a LONG night as Jay and Charlie kept him up doing the Eveready battery thing. It happens when they are excited to be here. We hope for a more restful sleep tonight. My crew seem to all sleep well and most needed as I still have this awful flu bug.

Today, Zack and Coco came for an overnighter so we had a full crew to feed. We manage to get it all done without any squabbles and everyone eating their own food but sometimes when you look around, it's rather comical. This one jumping and waiting for their food and yet another and another. Treasure seems to get them all jumping for their food.

Tomorrow Weaver comes to join us and Tia, Sydney, Coco and Zack go home. We will miss them tremendously. They bring fun to the crew but so do the crew that remains. It's an ever changing canvas ... that we enjoy.

Before & After Havanese Snow Fun

Charlie & JasperCharlie and Jasper joined us today for some terrific snow fun. Charlie is a bouncy, can't get enough play kind of guy and so is Jasper.

Kat started out as a grump today but he ran and played and did a proper greeting. I say, there is no room for grumpiness here.  What a great fit this crew will be. When Weaver joins us it will be total boy madness fun.

Yikes, I thought Tia was going home tonight but looks like she's going home Sunday. Nathan looked at his notes and went oh yeah, it's Sunday. I guess she will be getting 2 baths. hehehe That's okay. She's crazy fun and worth the extra work.

Coco and Zack are coming for an overnighter tomorrow. Fun, fun, fun!

We added 2 new videos and a slide-show. As always you can find them on their respective pages on the top of the list. Although I am still not well, I got my ahem in gear and took a ton of photos and videos as I know that when away, it's nice to see the holiday your furry kids are having and what better way than photos and videos. We hope you enjoy.

Charlie spreads his love around to everyone. Jasper too. This is going to be a great deal of fun having so many boys in the house as the gals usually rule around here. That's okay, they will still think they rule. heh

The snow was blustery. The dogs played hard and ate well and now they are snoozing to start again.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
