She Has Her Way

Funny how Saffron can play with her pups despite them still feeding. They seem to know there is feeding time and playing time. Good ones! Nathan had them out this morning and I had them out this afternoon. I like it when Nathan does it with me so I can catch them in action with him.

Tomorrow the pups have their first bath and photos. Saturday is the visit. We are going to do it outside so please dress warm. We will do a portion watching them running and a portion on the deck so you can sit upclose and personal with them. It will be fun, I promise!

Pups are sleeping really well at night but this crew always loves their dream time and then they love their play.

Here is the gallery.

Someone made it up on the deck. You will have to watch the video to see whom. Didn't see it. Just saw that the pup was up on the top stair. Oh funny! They are little so that is some feat.

We Just Know How to Have Fun

We have some real characters in this group. I have to laugh. I think they are all characters to be honest. Some are just more quieter than the others. But they all have genuinely fine personalities.

It's funny to listen to Safi say the milk bar is closed when she just wants to play. She has her schedule. I feed you when you get up, lunch time, supper and at bed. Sometimes I skip supper. I am starting to wean you - don't you know? They do listen to her most of the time. :-)

Here is a gallery of them playing outdoors today.

I can't believe I am bathing them Friday. Wow!

Safi's Pups

This boy is a gentle loving boy - well so far. We shall see what he is like at 8 weeks. That is when we assess them. He's starting to get his eyebrows as he is a tri and the colours are starting to truly bleed through. Can you believe how long his hair is on such a small body. heh

This gal is a major lovee. She is gentle and ever so attentive when you want her to be. She tends to occupy herself when you don't have time to play. She's so bloody cute. She will be on the small side. Though she is gaining weight quite nicely she has smaller features which tells me she will be on the smaller scale.

Pups will have their first non sponge bath (a full bath) on Friday. They will have their first visit this Saturday.

They will also have their 8 week vet visit on the 24th at our vets.

Here is a gallery from today.

They have really adapted to running around outside. I believe they embraced it from the start. It is so nice to see their sense of adventure.

They are also doing well with upstairs. Not a peep till they hear everyone go downstairs. Then the want to go too. Can you blame them?

More New Changes

Saffron pups spent their first night upstairs and Rowan and Emmy pups spent their time downstairs without Dennis at night. I was really sick last night (all night) and into the day. I had to take a nap as I was up all night so photos are scarce.

Here is some shots of them upstairs. I didn't take many as I was not up to it. How did the pups do?

No crying going upstairs. No crying being alone (we have a camera to watch them) and Saffron came to bed with us. So many changes. They slept for the most part or just changed positions and was asleep at 7am when we woke up. Let's see how tonight goes. These pups have always been decent sleepers.

Here is a short video of them upstairs. As you can see they were pretty comfie with the experience even minus mom.

Plus yesterday we had them outdoors on the pool cover for the first time. Check out this video. Amazing first experience. I had so much fun watching their first experience. Saffron was adorable with them too.

Here are the videos - some of them during the night. As I was mighty sick I had a lot of opportunities to watch. That's my excuse.

Jackets or Not: Update

Tried putting coats on the pups. It was a bust. They yanked their arms out, rolled over and did everything in their power to get them off. What a riot! I was thinking it was cold outside so wouldn't a jacket feel nice. Nah!

Here is a gallery of today.

The pups are going upstairs for the first time without mom tonight. Oh my. We shall see how that goes.

Lil Munchkins

Oh the comical things we do like put a paw into the water dish. We are gettingt to that 'riot' stage. We are all over 2lbs. One is 2.5lbs. Now that we are eating food decently we should start seeing more gains. They are so tiny when we pick up Rowan's and Emmy pups but there is a large gap in age.

Here is a gallery.

We have now started to cry to go out. Well not really cry - whimper under their breaths. They see the Rowan and Emmy pups going out first and they too want to go out. But they are polite about it. They make this tiny noise as if to say what about me? Then they sit and wait. Even the one that bounces all over sits and waits for their turn.

We are drinking water now too

Nathan is outside with them now while I finish the blogs.

Its another busy day due to bathing, grooming and pups going home. I have not watched tv in over a week. Can you believe? Nathan has but now he says its not the same without me so the blogs may be short all so I can get TV time. hahahaha

Wishing I was outside with the pups too but I get them to myself just before bedtime and at all feedings.

Murphy Time With the Pups

Murphy checked out the pups. Played with them and gazed at them with interest. It was truly interesting to watch. Here is the gallery.

Pups are enthusiastic when they go outdoors. Hey its outside - fun! They will miss it tomorrow if it is raining all day.

These pups are having their first family visit next weekend. Can't wait to share them.

New Bowl

Took them awhile to adjust to a new bowl. Everyone but 1 has eaten from it that I have noticed. It's been a busy day so I may have missed it. Pups are now sleeping from midnight or 1am till 7am. Saffron is no longer feeding them between that time. Soon they will head upstairs and their last feeding will be at 11 and the next feeding will be 7am. Saffron will come back to bed with us but at this point it doesn't make sense when we still have Rowan and Emmy pups. So soon....

Oh What Fun

I can touch my toes, really I can. This girl is a riot! She is comedy in action. Never saw such a personality creep through so early (saw this on what day 3) other than Trouble. I may have to give her a temporary name of 'Tomlin' as Lily Tomlin was one of the greatest at making you laugh.

Our most common phrase is "of course it's you".

The pups were out today and was wrestling with each other. They were hopping and jumping in and out of the car. They were so full of life. Here is a gallery.  Roxie also came in to see the pups and was great with them. Saffron was on guard to see what she was going to do with her babies and then relaxed. It's a new mom syndrome. Will you treat my babies as special as they are? :-)

They are now eating hard kibble with chicken in it. This morning they had roast in it. It wasn't on purpose. Mom had her food in there as Emmy and Rowan no longer eat lunch but would if it was not in the pen and well the pups went crazy for it. So, I through the Fromms kibble in my food processor to break it into smaller pieces and added meat and the littlest gal had a round tummy and I went hooray!

Better Late Than Never

Pups really have a blast when Dennis cleans out the pen at night. You will see it in a video. They now go from the kitchen to their room and walk by the Rowan and Emmy pups that are awaiting their turn. It does seem that they are starting to truly explore far. They also seem to be curious about the other pups. See the * video and then check out Rowan's blog to see the Rowan and Emmy pups watching the Saffron pups.

Here is a small gallery.

They go out daily once or twice a day and twice a day when their sleeping area gets cleaned they wander around outside of the pen.

They had their first deworming so I thought they would be a tad under the weather but they seemed to be doing rather well. Here is today's gallery. Plus here is the video.

Going to keep this short as I truly am playing recovery even though today was a crazy busy day when it was supposed to be a down day to a point.

Pups and mom are doing really well!

Land of the Firsts

Last night Dennis had the pups out in the kitchen for a play session for their first time. Here is the gallery. He said they did well though they started fussing towards the end, I suppose to go back to their sleeping area.

Then we had them out in the hallway today to play and to do nails. Here is the gallery of the play session. Here is the gallery of the nail clipping. They did rather well in the hallway and once again fussed when they started getting tired letting us know it was time to go to sleep.

Here is the video of the play session.

They get so excited to see me. They jump and climb all over me. They are not 2 lbs yet. Well, have to weigh them today to see if one passed the 2lb mark. I may be surprised as I have not weighed them in a few days as they won't stay on the scale. It's a fruitless experience in a huge way. I may take them upstairs and put them on the large step on scale. This way they get a new room experience and I get to take weights. Not sure if I will get to it tonight or not. To be honest all I want to do is nap.

Outdoors Hmmmm

I love this photo. Look at that ear. This was their first time outdoors and to top it off it was raining. That's okay. Nathan stood under the gazebo.

How did they do? Not one shook and they usually do the first time looking around. Maybe they were shell shocked. It's cold. It's raining and what the hey is THIS?

Here's the gallery of each outdoors.

I may start taking them out to the hall tomorrow to see how they do. They are such little things compared to 9 and 10 week old pups. I wish I could do outdoors but rain is in the forecast tomorrow too. Oh joy.

Pups now have teeth poking through. They are staying up longer between feedings. They are making approx 4 hours between feedings. A few had tearing due to teething. (this is normal) Now that they have teeth poking through, that has dried up.

Can you believe we are 4 and a half weeks old. How did that happen? Sarah spent a bit of time with us and we had fun with her. We are starting to play with toys. We are still being stubborn about drinking water. We may have to explore bowls. hmmmm

Here is today's gallery.

We are staying up for longer periods between feedings but we are still sleeping 3 to 4 hours solidly. We seem to be curious watching the other pups.

4 Week 1 Day Old

The human here thinks I have the prettiest eyes. All that black on my face will end up being tipping.

Here is the gallery.

We are still adjusting to the food. That's understandable as we are still very young. It's not bad. It's just soft not watery stools. This usually happens for the first few days then the bodies adjust to food. Even though they have loose stools they are still making it all the way over to the pad to go. Bravo little ones. Even Nathan was impressed. He's been listening to me tell them that they are doing it but today he watched the brown and white boy do it and it was as if it was the first time. I laughed. They are actually pretty good at this pad stuff.

They also wake up to puppy, puppy, puppy and get so bloody excited. It's a fun experience for me truly!

They also like baby comforters the best vs. just the thin blankets. I am going to go to the baby consignment shop to see if I can get more. They dig and snuggle right in as if they are in heaven.

4 Weeks Old

4 week old fun. I enter the pen and say puppy, puppy, puppy and they literally wake up and walk as fast as they can to me. Then they head for the pad. This crew is so bloody good at using the pad. It is rare that I find an accident. When they are in a clean environment they tend to continue that.

Here is today's gallery.

It is challenging to keep Saffron away from Emmy and Rowan's food. She seems to get an upset tummy from it as she is used to Fromms. So now that Rowan and Emmy are weaning I can do set meals and watch that they eat it all or pick up the remaining. My only other alternative is to keep her in the xpen with the pups but then the pups don't sleep as well when I do that. So, I think the latter is the way to go. We do not ever have 2 different brands of food so this challenge is new. We learn from every new experience and we adapt.

Saffron seems to be better. She is eating. She is loving up her pups and snuggling with me.

Pups are eating and Saffron is eating along side them. Saffron likes the mousse too. Pups bowels are slightly loose. Not sure if that is due to Saffron or the addition of food or both. It's not runny and they are eating so I am not worried. I just have to do the odd bum clean up. It's normal for their tummies to adjust to the addition to solids. I am trying to get them to drink water but beyond the odd lick, they are not interested. That too is what usually happens. It often takes up to a week for them to realize the value of water. For now they are getting sufficient fluid from mom and from the food.

They are now up to 4 plus hours between feedings. This is good as its not taxing Saffron. But her hair - well I may be cutting her down but I am trying to save it. They crawl all over her, munch on it and well make it interesting. We will see how it unfolds. That is why so many cut their dogs down before they whelp as short hair doesn't get as damaged.

3 Weeks 6 Days Old: First Food

Pups had their first food. All ate with gusto but one as she needed to go use the pad. When she finally got it all out of her system, she ate though not as heartily as the others. We shall see how it goes.

Here is the gallery of them eating.

Saffron has an upset tummy. We are not sure why. So, I figure it was time to help her along by starting the pups on feeding. We shall see how that goes. Here is a mini video of it.

I came home and figured instead of waiting till tomorrow, today was the day.

That's it for today as I was out. Pups are doing really well!
