3 Weeks 5 Days Old

Soon this crew will be 4 weeks old and they will have their first taste of food. Although they already try to get moms but they have yet to be successful.

Here is today's gallery.

Saffron had an upset tummy for the first time in all the times she has had pups last night. Poor Dennis had clean up all night. It seems she ate Rowan's food and well it didn't sit with her well. Pups skipped a feeding as what happens with moms happens with them and then it was gone. This is called a dietary indiscretion. They are back eating and so is she. She is happy and doing well today and so are the pups.

Her pups are so animated now. They love playing with me and playing with their mom.

I have taken off a section of blanket so they can now see out. Safi lays close. They seem to be real comfortable at seeing the other moms and pups but Saffron stays in protection mode where she just lays real close and won't leave them. So when she has to go out, I cover up the area. She will adjust. She is a first time mom who loves her pups and wants to make sure they are safe when she is not there watching.

Pups light up when they see her. I am so pleased with this crew. Now how long will I be able to weigh black and white? It's debatable. Each time she tries and accomplishes at times to jump out or bounce that scale all over the place. I may have to bring the flat scale downstairs or a large bowl. We shall see.

Tomorrow I get to do a morning feeding and before bed feeding. Will miss my time with all the pups. But I am also excited about getting out and who knows maybe I will find things for the pups.

PS: Pups are already tryin to eat Saffron's food. I think they are ready for food on Sunday. They are small little things but it seems like they are ready.

3 Weeks 4 Days Old

Short blog day today. We have become play monkeys. It is so much fun to sit in the xpen. Can't wait till they are 4 plus weeks old. 1 more week and they will be going outside too. Let's hope it doesn't get too cold.

They look so peaceful when they are sleeping.

I get kisses. It has become more challenging to weigh them as they won't stay still. They are gaining well. In the next few days we will open up the blankets so they can see the outdoor world completely. This is part of their conditioning.

Here is one video to get you by. We will play catch up tomorrow.

3 Weeks 3 Days Old

You can't tell in this photo but this one has apricot bleeding through. His colours will change. He is one of the smallest. The brown and white one was but he's gaining and playing catch up with the larger ones. The largest remains to be the black and white girl.

To understand the largest pup is the same size as the smallest pup was of Rowan's. I will have to dig up Fiona's pup charts so I can see how hers compared. Looking at Roxie's her pups from her last litter was slightly and I mean slightly larger. Jeannie's was larger than Emmy and Rowan's at this point. None of Jeannie's are oversized.

It's just interesting to compare. Here is today's gallery. I am trying to start the blogs as we have the vet visit today and I don't want to be doing blogs till I go to bed.

Dennis said these puppies really like to play and are so social. It's nice to be able to sit in with them and snuggle and caress them with my fingers. They not only enjoy it they reciprocate giving me kisses and batting my hand to play. This will be a fun group.

3 Weeks 2 Days Old

We are learning to find mom in this big environment. It forces us to traipse all over the xpen. That's okay. It will get us strong.

We already have started using the pad and I caught one in action. Here is the video. This particular gal is first in everything. I am impressed. You expect this dainty little spot and well.....

Pups have adjusted. They are still little. They may be carry around size but time will tell. They are highly social. They wag their tails when I climb in and Nathan who they hadn't seen for a bit they wag their tails for too. Oh people - fun, fun, fun. Sometimes you have to condition them to people etc but they seem to embrace new things.

Here is a small gallery.

New Digs: 3 Weeks 1 Day Old

This is minus 1. Where was the go getter? Was she hiding under something? Well the pups are now in their own pen without the whelping box. We did it before Nathan got back as they were climbing out so much it was getting scary. The only one that didn't climb out was the tri boy. The one that looks black has apricot bleeding through on his face, legs and I suspect he will get eyebrows. He just watched the other siblings go out and out and out.

Here is the gallery.

Their first reaction to be out in this wide pen where other dogs can peer in at the corners was to whimper a bit but then they got curious and played recovery fast. When I check in on them I find them all over the pen. They have done really well with the adjustment but it is harder for them to find mom. Dennis is now going to start sleeping in the same room and trying to get on day shift. When these pups are 4.5 weeks they will head upstairs and Dennis will go to bed and Saffron will come to bed with us. When Rowan's pups go to their new home then Saffron's pups will move again so she has a door on the xpen. Right now she doesn't.

The pups are well over a pound now. We are going to try to feed them starter mousse in another week. As they grow they need more and more milk to gain and that means its taxing for a small gal like Saffron so we will give her a bit of a helping hand. Hopefully the pups will take to it well without any issues at the 4 week mark.

Three Weeks Old Today

They really are climbing out frequently now. I am trying to wait till tomorrow night to take the whelping box out so Nathan is here when we do it. This way he feels a part of it. He's lost so many amazing moments that I want him to feel he's back being a part of the decisions. So look for new digs Monday night or Tuesday.

2 Weeks 6 Days Old

The pups are 3 weeks old tomorrow. Oh wow or the reality is in they tuen 3 weeks in the middle of the night or early morning depending on how you perceive it they will turn 3 weeks old.

I am so trying to hold off on taking them out of the whelping box till Nathan is home. We shall see if we can swing it. Here is today's gallery.

Have to say I find this crew agile and rather fond of being held and touched. Now when they see me even when mom is not around they come waddling to me. That's a rather special feeling.

2 Weeks 5 Days Old

Aren't I adorable? Really, I am. I am so cute that I can get away with being a troublemaker. Yes, the human here managed to catch me climbing out. For shame. I thought I was doing this for days and she didn't notice. But I was caught in action. You will see it in a video. I am not 3 weeks yet and I have been walking early, climbing early and my siblings are starting to do the same.

Here is the gallery.

We are mobile. How many days before this human says enough so we can get out of this box?

2 Weeks 4 Days Old

We are more active now between feedings. We wake up. We practice this walking stuff. One of us then 2 of us practice escaping. Only one is successful. Then we eat. Then we practice a bit more and then we sleep.

We are now sleeping almost 3 hours between.

During that time the human plays with them and caresses them. They LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this.

Here is a gallery. Saffron's hair is uncombed but she is now combed out. It's one of those days. I usually brush the moms first thing but didn't get to them till this afternoon. This will happen I suppose from now till Tuesday when Nathan is away.

I find Saffron to be an excellent mom. By the time Nathan is back they will be over 3 weeks old and I suspect they will be out of their whelping box.

Two Weeks 3 Days Old

Pay attention to this photo. Saffron often holds her leg up in the air so she doesn't hurt her pups with the weight of her leg. I laugh as she is a small gal and really it has to be tiring to hold your leg up in the air. I try to put it down and up it goes again. She so loves the pups.

Here is the gallery.

The pups practice walking quite a bit. Some are getting rather sturdy on their legs. The one with the black spots on her back though is in another league. She tries to climb up on the rails and out of the pen. She is a riot.

Pups have all passed their 1lb weight. They feel more substantial now. Saffron is full of milk but I figure around 4 weeks we will be trying out food to help Saffron with the feeding. We shall see.

Two Weeks 2 Days

Our air is not working so it is stifling hot here. Blogs will be short due to that. Pups being too hot is not good. The older ones can go outdoors where it is cooler. They say cooler weather is coming so we are safe even if it doesn't start working. We shall see. Here is today's gallery.

Saffron just ADORES her pups. It's as if each day goes by and she falls deeper in love with them.

By the time Nathan gets back (he departs Thursday morn) they will be over 3 weeks old.

Two Weeks Old

The pups are now 2 weeks old and the last gal decided to open her eyes this morning wide open. We could see slits last night but today she was looking at me. Here is the gallery.

I can't believe 2 weeks has gone by like a blip.

One puppy is over 1 pound now and the rest are 15 plus ounces. They are growing. They are also practicing walking and has been for days. I am in awe. Some of them aren't so bad either. This is mighty early. Bravo, little ones!

Tomorrow I will have to put in some visuals for them. Exciting times are coming.

13 Days Old

I am soooooo full! When they eat they look like they swallowed it all. Here's an example. We do have 1 more puppy starting to open her eyes but she is not there yet. I gather I will be posting an eues open on their 2 week birthday.

Here is the gallery.

Saffron is such a good mom. She just loves her pups. She kisses them all over. They seem to find mom enough that Dennis is sleeping in the same room at times and gets up throughout to check. They seem to be gaining sufficiently so it is working. I think he gets up more than not. He is still sleeping during the day. I wish the pups were older when Nathan was off on his trip. Nothing ever happens when you want it to. hahaha

12 Days Old

Finally a girl with her eyes open. Now we just have 2 with eyes closed. Here is the gallery. The pups are active and rather strong. I am surprised and not surprised as its the extra agile line. They are already getting up on their legs where they can to try out this walking business but especially the black and white spotted gal. She is actually pretty amazing.

Saffron continues to be a great mom. Some are still just gaining 6/8 of an ounce in a 24 hour period and some are gaining over an ounce. I am happy with the gains. I just have not figured out who will be small yet but will as they get a bit older. I do know the brown and white boy is short in body so I figure he will be small.

I am so pleased with Saffron. She is even eating without me hand feeding her now. Bravo!!

Here are the videos:

We have class tonight so blogs will be short again. Here is a small gallery.

Pups are all spread out today. It's a tad warm with this humidity. I so wish I was in the pool but here I am blogging and getting ready for class.
