Roxie's Boys Day 3

The growing belly. All pups are gaining and momma Roxie is taking care of them ever so well. Here is a gallery today. Nathan appeased me and held them for me so you could see each. They were wiggly little things. The browns are going to have many colours in their coat and the black and white, we will see how that turns out.

Here are videos from last night and today.

2 Updates Today

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThe pups are edging up on 2.5 days old now - wow. They have gained weight. I have one that says I will eat when I want to and on the slot I want to. I thought it was just me but he did that for Dennis too. He has his own mind - what can I say but he is gaining the most. Maybe he just appreciates his sleep the most!

Here are last nights and today's videos:

This is the smallest Adele puppy and the smallest Roxie puppy. The Roxie pup is the listest of the browns. He almost looks like a chocolate now. heh They are 9 days apart. They double their weight the first week. Roxies is 2 days old and tonight Adele's will be 11 days old.

There will be 2 updates today. I just wanted to share this fun one with you.

Full Day Old

Click on Photos for Larger ViewWe are gaining weight - hooray. They went from a flat body fat appearance to a rounded, filled with fluid and getting round belly appearance. They are now as I type just going into the start of the 18th hour so this is really good. They are even finding mom most times. At times they need a bit of help much like Adele's pups did when they were of this age. But they too have great instincts.

Someone mentioned that these pups will probably fade out in colour to be like Roxie. I do not believe that to be so. These pups are darker and seem to be brindles vs sables. But colour doesn't matter. Just interesting what each combo brings. I find the black and white one has stunning markings and that tail....

I worry the first 24 hours more than at any other time unless there are issues. I am relaxed enough to bring my ipad everywhere and make a turkey. I am sure these pups will end up being fatties much like Adele's.

Here are today and last night's videos:

Water Time
Yes, Ms. Roxie is a princess and she knows it. She is a delicate beauty and likes me to feed her food and water. We only do this during puppy time. They even came out at  the get together and said hello.

Puppy Huddle
When pups huddle like this they are cold so ther heat lamp was placed over them. We pay attention to body language so we can meet their needs.

Yeah don't ask me why I caught this. :-) It was me. I was in bed but obviously not sleeping.

Pile of Pups Wee Hours

At this age, they can get cold easily. They can't regulate their body temperature so we must monitor. They can't until their eyes and ears open. Yes, they also can't hear yet.

Here is the gallery from birth on. Some are messy.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewMom is VERY tired but is eating well. Has had a break to do her business outside and pups so far are maintaining not losing. Her milk is in so we should see gains soon. They are finding the nipples so they have strong instincts. They look tiny next to Adeles. Tomorrow I will try to do a side by side shot.

Puppies Are Here: Video Added

Click on Photo for Larger ViewFirst one is a boy, a dark brown sable. Born at 446am (yes I was up all night). He weighs 6-7/8oz - 197g.

We also lost 1. It never took a breath. It was large and was not moving when it came out. It is why she had a tough time getting it out. It was a mostly white with one black streak on its eye. RIP. It was not meant to be. It is stress-filled and sad. One asks why I always have anxiety before a birth. This is why. It is rare but it happens and it does and it kills us. Enough said. We need to celebrate the living.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewI am calling this the 2nd born as it was born moving. It's a boy and another brown sable. He was born at 6:15am weighing 6-1/2oz - 187 grams.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThe 3rd was born at 7am weighing 6-1/2oz - 187grams

Next one born is another boy. He is the smallest so far weighing in at 5-5/8oz - 161grams. He is a brown sable with a white partial collar.

Click on Photo for Larger View4th born is another boy born at 822am weighing 6-5/8oz - 190g.

All pups were breech. It was a not fun delivery.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewHere are the 4 beauties - all boys - sorry folks but they are stunning and all eating. Look at that tail on the last born.

I have not eaten nor slept all night. Dennis has not slept as he was up with the Adele pups. Nathan slept till 4am. I am hungry, excited, sad all rolled into a package.

Comfort

Nesting all day and then look what she is doing. Thank you Ruth for the bed and blanket. It seems Roxie is in love with it. Ruth is downsizing (sold her house and is looking for a townhouse so if you know of one for sale.... ). So, she gave us this bed and I am actually taking it to bed with me for Roxie. You can't see but its like 12 inches high and Roxie thinks its the VERY best. Can't you tell in this photo.

Does she look ready to have pups? I give up but oh she nested and now she can wait till morning but I am certain I will be checking all night.

Nesting But No Pups

Click on Photo for Larger ViewShe is nesting. She's making a mess. Oh if she goes at 2am it is me that stays up. Is there a theme going on? Get out the violins. She's been doing this since late morning. We will see where this goes.

Still nothing so maybe we will make it to morning. I will still be checking all night. No rest for the weary.

Keeping You Guessing

Click on Photo for Larger ViewMy temps were 98.5 this morning. Still not in very low but I amf the Roxie so I will keep you guessing. Mommas not getting much sleep as she is watching me closely. Daddy has already moved into the guestroom so he can have his sleep.

My guess is over the next few days we 'should' see pups. I say that not due to temps but her stomach is rock hard. It means pups are moving into position. She is also not eating much though she ate yesterday - still not the norm. This is natural when it is almost time. She is also vocalizing that she is uncomfortable under her breath. It's this panting - its too hot or don't hold me this way. Picking her up is interesting as I have to hold one hand at her back end and one between her front legs.

I will try to get a photo of her belly today. It has grown significantly in the last week so that means pups were growing well. Will be interesting to see what size they are.

But no more temps. It's enough to drive me crazy - why you. I will only let you know when we are in actual labour. Ok?
