Ten Days Old: Weights

Now realize the crew is just 3 days different than Adele's. Pups are doing really well.

Let's see how the weights compare.

Here is today's gallery.

First born male 6oz at birth now 14-5/8oz
Gain last 24 hours 1-1/8oz

2nd born male 6oz at birth now 15oz
Gain last 24 hours 7/8oz

3rd born girl 6-3/8oz at birth now 15-6/8oz
Gain last 24 hours 7/8oz

4th born girl 6-1/4oz at birth now 15-6/8oz
Gain last 24 hours 1-1/8oz

In a given 24 hours weights fluctuate. It can be slightly more, slightly less but with both litters weights gains are really good. Once they start truly walking they will either eat more to deal with them expelling energy or they will level off gaining less till they adjust to so much activity and moms milk comes in even more. The walking, crawling stage is demanding for moms as they must eat a great deal to produce milk. Then at 4 weeks we introduce food and that alleviates taxing the moms and it allows the pups to start transitioning to food fully. How long moms feed pups are up to them but usually they start weaning anywhere from 7 weeks on. Some are better at making the pups realize the milk bar is closed than others. They all get there.

When pups start trying to crawl out of the whelping box the whelping box is removed and blankets go down. Laundry increases. This is when we start introducing a pee pad.

Yes, the pups eat, they sleep they move around. I have it so easy. I check on them every hour and give them kisses but otherwise they snooze. They are growing and soon they will be trying their legs. In a few days we start the wait till the eyes open experience.

Here is today's gallery.

The pups are truly beautiful. I love when they start getting to the point that they are going to have milestones after milestones close together.

One Week Old

One full week old - wouser! Have we doubled our weight? YES!

Each day I hold the pups many times a day. I do this on purpose so they get used to touch. Jeannie loves sharing her pups with me. I like the time I get with them.

Here is a gallery taken today

One of the creams is getting darker. How interesting.

6 Days Old

Pups are growing really well and have round bellies. Can you believe they are 6 days old? When they reach 7 days old most double their weight but there are exceptions to that. This crew will be right on target or a bit more. They are not as fat as her last litter.

Here is the gallery.

Jeannie is super attentive but she lets them sleep. She also tucks them in and covers them. It's rather cute. She is such a great mom.

Puppies will start opening their eyes anytime from 10 days on. My latest was 19 days. He had squinty eyes and kept saying, I don't think so. heh

5 Days Old

Thought I would start this blog out with a photo of Jeannie as a puppy doing a high five.

Here is Jeannie today with her pups. They are all doing really well and so is Jeannie. Here is the gallery for today. The puppies find mom for the most part but every now and then I have to direct or put them on.

Moms had full brush outs.

Pups are pretty active and if you watch them they are animated.

Will expand more tomorrow. I am running out of steam.

4 Days Old

The pups are doing really well. They are still around 7/8 to an ounce in a 24 hour period in gain. Jeannie has an abundance of milk. I am really tired and I am making sire I spend time with both moms and the pups. Nathan has taken the pups out twice so far but I have been the one with the pups. Dennis is sleeping.

Jeannie beams when I caress her pups and they seem to be doing really well with the touches, showing the like it. I rather enjoy holding them.

Here is today's gallery.

Of course Jeannie thinks covering up her pups and making a mess of her whelping box will garner her attention and it does. I am straightening it out constantly.

I have to admit I am exhausted emotionally and body wise but the pups make me smile - so do the dogs especially when I get cuddles at night. Nathan is also sick. Dennis better.

The pups even though they are still days old are showing some personality. It's cute and just like Jeannie they like their belly rubbed. Oh my!

3 Days Old

Sorry it is going to be a short blog. Mom's count more but Jeannie was so over the moon happy to see me. Her pups are fat. They already feel huge next to Adele's. They are finding the milk station for the most part on their own. They are doing ever so well. Their gain is either just inder an ounce or just over an ounce in 24 hours. Jeannie has lots of milk. Hard to believe they were Adele's puppy size 3 days ago.

Here is a short gallery.

2 Days Old Tonight

Everyone but the tri gal is gaining over an ounce in 24 hours. The girl is gaining 6/8 of an ounce which is just fine. Thankfully the pups are doing well and Jeannie other than a bit too much milk in lower milk stations is doing well. The pups are feeding off the bottom ones so that should be taken care of.

Of course I am cleaning Jeannie's bottom each time she goes out and drying her. This is usual. Only one I didn't have to do this with is Saffron.

Pups are plump, active and doing well. Jeannie is getting rest in-between.

Turning 2 Days This Afternoon: Gallery Added

How are the Jeannie pups doing? Dennis is able to catnap here and there as they are doing so well.  This morning I took one of the pups off mom to weigh and he had a tight round belly.

Jeannie pups gain a great deal when they are pups but they do not grow later in late puppyhood. What that means is they look like they will be huge as they keep gaining and then they level out. We laughed her last litter as they were the fattest largest things but anyone who has a Jeannie puppy will tell you in adulthood they are far from oversized. We are actually hoping to get some leg on her as she is short in leg. Buddy may bring that. Each dog has different growth patterns. For instance Roxie's are pretty level gradual gain throughout. Spicy's will grow till later on gaining some height then width.

Jeannie is pretty relaxed. She's not fretting. She feeds, she eats, she goes out to do what she needs to though yesterday she went under the pool house so that was mighty fun for me. I gave her a bit more calcium and she seems to have stopped that behavior. Getting her out was not fun. I was pretty upset with her as she ignored me till I got angry with my words and she went oh I guess mom is not going to let me do this. I almost took her out with a lead each time but she didn't repeat that fun.

Normal gain in 24 hours is usually 2/8 to 3/8oz when they are days old. It increases as their stomach capacity increases. This is Jeannie's pups in the last 24 hours.

Tri boy gain 7/8oz

Creamy Boy gain 1-1/8oz

Tri girl gain 6/8oz

Creamy girl gain 7/8oz

They are all over 7oz and they are not yet 2 days old. First 24 hours is a loss or pretty minimal. They gained 2/8oz first 24 hours - all of them.

Here's a quick gallery of the crew.
