10 Days Old

When they finish eating they either roll off or cuddle into mom. This one really enjoys his cuddle time with mom. Will that mean he will be a cuddler as an older pup? Time will tell. As you can see by the size of his belly he just stuffed himself.

Pups are now going 2.5 to 3 hours between feedings. If I wake them up too soon they are yawning and sleeping through a meal. So today I let them fuss before I fed and 3 hours was starting to get consistent. We shall see how the next few days goes. Dennis may get to sleep between feedings. Yes, he would still be in the same room but shut eye is a good thing especially when all day we have ringing bells, dogs barking each times someone comes to the door etc.

Here is today's gallery.

This crew also had their nails done. I know they may be a little young but its best to get them used to it and get on a regular schedule together vs. 3 days apart. Here is the video.

In 4 days they too will be 2 weeks. Two weeks starts the exciting times of changes. Right now they eat, they sleep, they move around but when eyes open... a new world.

9 Days Old

They start sleeping on their back when they trust their environment. Plus sometimes it is plain comfortable.

Here is today's gallery.

I was noticing that the boy that is heavier than the rest is actually longer in body. I will have to line them up to take a photo. He's not that heavier - but a silly ounce - which is the scheme of things is not much at all. :-0

I tried to get the pups to eat every 2.5 hours but they start crying for food at 2 hours to 2.15. I was hoping that they slept more so Dennis slept more. I will try again in a few days. They are after all ONLY 9 days old.

What has changed recently is Adele says - you are done where before she let them feed as long as they wanted and sometimes that was 20 minutes. She's feeling confident about their needs.

8 Days Old

Can you believe we are 8 days old? When will our eyes open? Will it be earlier than Jeannie's or later? Time will tell. At this stage we eat, we get cuddles from mom and we sleep. What a life. When our eyes open we will have toys added in. Exciting times are coming.

Here is today's gallery.

We are now all gaining an average of an ounce a day. Momma Adele is eating well so we can have lots of milk. We do not eat food till 4 weeks old. Then we still drink from the milk bar and eat as well.

4 Amigos 7 Days Old

Two girls, 2 boys. Can you tell me who are the females?

Here is the gallery.

Pups are really doing well. As they are 7 days this afternoon, we will put up weights to see how they have progressed since birth.

First born male 5.5oz at birth now 11-5/8oz
Gain last 24 hours 1oz

2nd born girl 5.5oz at birth now 11-5/8oz
Gain last 24 hours 1-5/8oz

3rd born male 6oz at birth now 14-1/8oz
Gain last 24 hours  1oz

4th born girl slot now 6oz at birth now 11-5/8oz
Gain last 24 hours1-3/oz

They are not a full 7 day old till this afternoon so everyone will make double their weight.

Adele has been extra attentive hesitating to leave them and peering at them through the bars but it is important they get sleep. Yesterday we allowed her to go in whenever. Today we are back to 2 hours between feedings to allow her and the pups sleep time. Though they did well on weight gain. Dennis slept quite a bit last nighht but interrupted sleep makes you feel tired too so he's sleeping today.

Grieving

We just lost Adele's smallest girl. She initially looked and acted fine, but never ate as well as the rest of the litter. Where her siblings ate twice each feeding she would only eat once. At first I thought she was just going to be a tiny one.

Yesterday she developed stomach distention and stopped eating. It is looking like her gut needed a little more time to mature. With Adele being sick before delivery and losing fluids it played a part, I am sure and most likely due to where she was implanted. It is hard, but it is reality. Some puppies no matter how hard you try are simply not capatible with life.

She passed away peacefully in my arms. I carried her close to my heart all day.

We apologize to Brewer's dad who arrived just after the loss.

Needless to say we are all dealing with the loss here, but rejoice that the rest of the pups are doing so well. They are gaining like crazy - 1oz a day. They are healthy and attempting crawling already.

5 Days Old

Well, we have started giving Adele a break. She wants to feed the pups every half hour and they will not grow sufficiently unless they sleep between. She did this the last time so it's not as big of a struggle keeping her out as she understands now. I let her in an hour in so she can give them love but not feed and now we are feeding by a timer every 2 hours. Pups are eating better and she has more milk. They actually get less milk feeding nonstop and they expel too much energy that they can't gain as much as they would if they just slept. Mom has to let them sleep though. :-) Do any of you human moms know this craziness?

This move helps the pups and mom. It works. Pups need sleep and moms need sleep and a break.

Here is today's gallery.

Adele is doing well. Sometimes she eats tons. Sometimes she wants to be hand fed. She is in princess mode. We love her dearly.

4 Days Old

I can't believe that days ago I was sitting on the floor waiting for these pups to be welcomed into the world. Adele is doing well. The pups are doing well. Here is the gallery taken today.

They are eating every 90 minutes to 2 hours. When I feed them I place Adele on her back so I can see who is doing what. It's easier for me that way.

I am so glad that both litters are close in age. It means they will go through similar milestones at the same time. I find the younger ones are at an advantage as they often try to do what the older ones do and they usually succeed when the time gap is not great.

3 Days Old

They are now 3 full days old. How did time pass by so quickly or did it?

Adele is doing well. Pups are doing well. They are all gaining. Some more than others but all in a great range. They are feeling substantial and I like that feeling. I can easily tell who is who between the females that look similar. We have one that really likes to eat as he is gaining more than the rest and feels that way.

Here is the gallery.

Adele is relaxed and her output is solid. She seems to have plenty of milk. She can be picky, One day she wants this and another day that. Today she turned her nose up at lamb chops but Jeannie gulped that all up.

Adele and the Day 2 Puppies

We got test results on Adele. Adele is doing well. She has her port out now and is happy about that.

Will it happen again? Everyone doubts it.

Adele was tested for so many things from Addisons to parasites extensively to liver function and on and on even though she had a full workup before pregnancy. I am a tad scared of this bill. :-) But good news she is great and now appears to have a decent supply of milk. She is also waggy tail happy.

Here is a gallery.

She is so well that she went into Jeannie's xpen, sniffed her pups and ate all her food. I allowed it after I saw it and just gave Jeannie new food. Funny Adele didn't want HER food. Gad they are like kids.

We had weight gains of 2/8 to 3/8 of an ounce since last night. This is good. I won't weigh them again till tonight but I can squeeze and I see milk and her milk slots are getting full.

Throughout this the pups remained very active and slept quietly between. They had enough till fill the belly but not gain significantly.

They are now a full 2 days old. There are only 3 days apart in the litters - yoo hoo! That means they will be able to play together easily!
