Almost 4 Weeks Old

Wow how did time fly? To be honest I can't wait till week 4.5 and 5.5 as that is when we don't have to be quiet during the day so Dennis can sleep. That is when the pups will go upstairs. Pups are good. I am not. I am exhausted so here's just a few videos to get you by.

What's a Day

As it was so warm outside we took on of the pups out in Nathan's arms but it was rather windy so we decided not to do the rest. On Sunday its supposed to be really warm so we will do the rest then. If it is warm enough we wil carry around the Spice pups too.

Here's Roxie saying hello to the pup. The adults were all keenly interested.

Jeannie's pups love the crate.

And they love the cave beds.

So what is a day like at this stage?

Dennis is still with the pups at night. He sleeps inbetween feedings which happens top be 3 or 4 hours. Most times it is 4 hours. In the morning I take out all the bedding. I wash the floors and place down new bedding and off to the wash the dirty stuff goes. When they are older the area is sterilized twice a day. If I find anything dirty during the day it goes to get washed. I also make the couch that Dennis is sleeping on as its a mess every day and so is the stacks of blankets that I rearrange. Nathan and Dennis just pile it willy nilly.

We do feedings. Nathan creates food for the gals. I brush the moms and then the rest. I do videos, take photos. I transfer them and do the blogs. Cleaning the house occurs, playing with dogs, taking photos, hugs and this is just a sliver of the day.

When the pups are 4 weeks they will have food introduced. When they are eating moms go back to bed with us and pups go upstairs. We have a camera and we can monitor and listen to them. This is the start of their independence from mom that will take till they go home. It's a process that we do step by step.

In this case we have to eventually mesh 2 litters together. Its important as they get the play from more than just their siblings. It all comes together.

This crew 'will' swim in the pool and play outdoors when weather permits. Much to look forward to. then we have to get our litters back to swim too.

In and Out

Jeannie's pups love the crate. There is a method to this madness. We place a crate for their comfort and to get them conditioned to it. They crawl in. They crawl out. Now to find one suitable for the Spice's crew.

The pups are getting into that really fun stage. They wag their tails at you and give you puppy kisses. Oh my! Creamy says, I win and he often does at games.

They adore me laying on the floor with them and I adore the same. Oh they are fun!

Perfecting Skills

As they get older they attempt many times a day to perfect their skills. This is how they go from walking to running. Each fday they get carried around the house to view the surroundings. as it gets warmer they wil be taken outside too. In less than a week Spice's will also do this.

They love the crate and use it without me placing them in. When they wake up I purposely place them on the pee pad and they all go. This is a ritual we go through until it becomes a solid habit. Each time they eat they get placed on the pad.

Here are a few photos taken today.

Here are the videos including Nathan playing with them. They are indeed interactive at this stage.

Tonight 3 Weeks 2 Days Old

Remember this crew is 1 week and a half day older than Spice's. Can't wait ill they can play together.

Here is a gallery of them.

Nathan is finding them more interesting as they run (well as fast as they can) and give you kisses and snuggles. They seem to have adapted to the xpen without any issue. I have started to take one at a time for a walk around the house in my arms to get exposure. They don't react. They just look around.

Here are today's videos.

Nails and Things

We had our nails clipped today. See the gallery. Pups still sleep a fair bit at this stage. They eat, they play or practice walking and then they sleep. They need sleep to grow. Mother nature is a great thing as mom fills their bellies with warm milk and they get a spurt of energy. They are active and then they sleep. As time goes on they sleep less but when they first go home they do sleep a fair bit of time.

If pups are ill, cold or not getting enough milk they will fuss and fuss. They don't sleep enough and they therefore remain sicker longer unless they are so sick they have no energy. Then that is when you may lose one. Mom's milk offers her immunities so it is important they drink from mom unless she simply doesn't have enough milk. It's why I prefer to do 2 litters at once as you always have a mom to offer her immunities even if you partially have to feed.

These pups sleep deep and are active and so are Spice's. So, if the videos look like a bunch of sleep be happy for them. It means they are growing. As time goes on there is more and more activity but rest assured they will still need naps through the day at 10 weeks old. They are still babies.

Jeannie New Bedding

We change out the bedding at this stage once a day and sterilize the flooring etc. As they get older it gets cleaned more often as clean bedding gets pups to appreciate clean surroundings.

Not many videos today as I am running out of steam. May start doing just a few each day. What do you think?

Three Weeks Old

We are 3 weeks old Tonight - wow!! We are highly aware of our surroundings and these new xpens are working well as they are protected but can see more through the bars. We still will use the plastic upstairs when they head up at week 4 to 5 and we will use them outside but for now these are working well.

Pups are often seen watching me in the other xpen when I am seeing Spice's pups. They want to see what I am doing.

Here's the Lost Videos. Okay, not lost but felt like it as they just wouldn't upload.

Leti Says I Smell You

Leti and Panda are blocked off in a portion of the whelping room as they are in heat. When Jon comes home they get to go downstairs and outdoors. We try to make sure they get time out and about and when Jon gets home at 2am after a shift then Dennis stays awake and Jon takes them downstairs at that time. Then and only then can Dennis go to sleep so now he is sleeping during the day.

New Digs

Well, it is taking me 6 plus minutes just to upload this photo. So it will be a no video day unless something changes. Today the crew is out of their whelping box and I wanted to show you how well they adjusted to life outside of the box. Oh well you will eventually see it. Why did we go to a new setup? Well, Mr. Creamy decided to climb out. After plopping out 3 times I decided no more. It was funny as the plop out didn't seem to bother him and no I didn't catch it on video. It was a fast plop each time.

I do have a gallery but unless the internet changes in speed, it won't be till then.  Jeannie adjusted to it easily too. Now the only issue is making sure all the pups make it to Jeannie feeding.

By the way I also have a video of them walking pretty decently. Life is changing. Soon they will be 3 weeks. Wow!
