6 Day Belly Up

As they get older we are finding them belly up when they sleep here and there. At times even Momma Leti is belly up.

Pups are still gaining. I caught one instead of doing the crawl trying to use his back legs. It's too early little one but I gather you are trying to figure out how to get to your destination faster. Here is the gallery

They LOVE, LOVE this blanket as it is puffy. I find the baby blankets with some density they seem to truly enjoy. Us too, so I imagine it's just plain comfortable. Momma Leti still tries to cover them.

I think Leti has her groove back. She was taken out to do her duty and she came running in with a happy go lucky , I am here gait. She was indeed thrilled with the snow and thrilled as she was doing the - guess who is queen here. I have to laugh.

Can you believe these boys are almost a week old?

5 Days Old

I am a tri and I am starting to get my eyebrows. You can see in this gallery what I and my brothers look likenow that we have reached 5 days old. We are a beautiful bunch. Yes, boys can be beauties too.

We have doubled our birth weight already. Usually they double their birth weight by 7 days. We are on track and doing really well. Of course they have a feast set before them without competition. That does make a difference.

They are getting used to being held, touched, stroked and weighed daily. By the time their eyes open they will have adapted to touch. It will be a comfort to them. I probably touch them at least 10 times a day and that's just me. There is also Nathan, Dennis and Jonathan and now we will also have the grandchildren.

4 Days Old

Mother's work is never done. Does she look tired? She is but now she is venturing out when pups are sleeping to eat and to see what is going on. Moms that never leave the pen probably feel tied down. So, I try to give her balance and make sure she knows the pups are safe. For first time moms it takes a bit to trust that they are okay. It's not that they don't have a bond with us but mother's instinct is very strong especially with maternal moms. Leti is very maternal. She adores them. But I now applaud her when she gets up and out to cool off or eat or go do her duty. I have made sure she gets her massages at this time too. She LOVES that.

I noticed Leti guiding one of her pups to the milk bar. She amazes me at times.

But she is tired and is learning how to sleep between too. Here is today's gallery

3 on 3 Days Old

Well the crew is growing at a fabulous rate.

Weights - (B)= Birth (N)= Now

Puppy 1 Tri
(B) 4-3/8oz 126g
(N) 7oz 201g

Puppy 2 Irish Pied

(B) 5oz 142g
(N) 7-7/7oz 223g

Puppy 3 Chocolate/Brown

(B) 5-1/4oz 151g
(N) 8-3/8 239g

Last 24 hours each gained an ounce. They are doing real well with choco boy getting a fat tummy faster than the others. Realize they are only about 3.5 inches from head to start of tail. They are tiny but are growing really well. You can hear them eating as they eat with gusto. They are also very strong. They climb right over Mommy Leti. Here is today's gallery.

2 Days Old: 2 Updates Today

My pups are 2 days old and I can feed them sitting up, you know. Yes, they are eating. The human can hear them drinking. They are noisy eaters. They love their food. This is a first at this age. Usually we feed our pups at 3 or 4 weeks like this. Maybe it is as simple as I was tired of laying down - you know?

One Day and a Half

Can you believe these 3 Amigos have arrived at the 1 and a Half Day old stage. Actually they are 1 day 21 hours as I type.

They are doing really well. From 7am to 7am they gained 1 oz a piece with the exception of one gaining 7/8 of an ounce. They are doing really well in the weight gain department. They are also strong latchers and they can find mom more times than not. This is amazing so early.

Now Leti weight 10lb 10 oz just before having per pups and she is 9.5 lbs at the moment according to my scale. Do the math. The pups weighed 4, 5 and 6 oz. That is 15 oz. Add up the weight of each placenta and she is on track. Leti's normal weight is 9lbs. She is a small gal so I am happy when shed had 3 vs. 5. Although I get the need to have 5 for all of you. It's less taxing for Leti as a small gal. Panda should have her usual 5 or 6. We shall see.

I am fascinated by black and whites. There are some that are well black and white and some tend to have the most stunning markings. This one has stunning markings.Though he has colour coming into his face, I am not sure if it will be silver or brown. Today it looks brown. Time will tell. What makes markings stunning for the show ring (no we are not keeping any) is perfectly balanced markings. Occasionally you will get those that aren't balanced that still are striking for the ring. More times than not its the balanced markings. This boy has it going on, as they say.

Leti is attentive. She's still being difficult about eating but Nathan can get her eating better than anyone. But its time to buy lamb chops and steak etc.

Here is today's gallery.

What is our day like? Each day we try to get Leti to eat. Every time Leti goes outside to do her duties I have to wash her back end. Mom's have discharge for 7 to 10 days after birth. Mom's also have to be dry as you do not want the pups getting chilled. While I am doing that I tend to comb her out as she dries. She is not happy with being away from the pups. So I try to be quick. She appreciates it. She is starting to relax about me holding the pups. At first she would get agitated till I put them down but I persisted. It's important so she knows nothing will happen to her babies. It is critical to touch and hold pups from the start. It is great conditioning.

I also change out the blankets each day at this point. As they get older I change them out several times a day.

I also now weigh them at 7am and will weigh them at 2pm.

It's a lot of work but less work as they get older.

Here are some videos.

Meet the Boys

Click on Photo for Larger ViewWhat a deliriously happy mom - don't you think?

They won't be 24 hours old till 2pm when we will take another weight. For now at 715am they all gained 5/8 of an ounce each. Usually they lose in the 1st 24 hours as their bodies adjust, mom's milk comes in. But Leti's milk was already in and she has 3 pups for all those milk stations. They have a feast before them.

I will now put up a photo of each boy and you can also check out the gallery. It is hard to get photos of them as she has no toleration for such silliness. Her job is to envelope them with love and protect them.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewMeet Puppy 1. He is a tri and still has colour bleeding through.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewMeet Puppy 2. He looks like a stunning irish pied but is also a tri. He has colour bleeding through his face.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewMeet puppy 3. He is also a tri as he has more than 2 colours. Is he chocolate? Is he simply a brown sable? We will know as he gets older and we see his pigment and eye colour come in.

They are all very strong and mom moves and they stay latched on. I kept checking on her with the video and so did Nathan. It's a sickness, I tell you. You need to sleep but then you can't help yourself. I went to bed at 9pm and fell fast asleep then Nathan let the dogs in and I was awake again.

Here are some videos I took. Special note is simply placing the food in the xpen for Leti got her to eat a bit but not much. Nathan hand feeding the princess got her eating all.

Leti is learning to negotiate around her pups. She is attentive, loving and so adoring the boys.

Leti is so Funny

So, I am hiding them so they can be safe - and there is nothing you can do about it.

Pups all gained weight already. Leti still has not eaten. When Dennis gets up, I am going to crawl into bed. I am nodding off as I type. My luck Dennis will get up at 10pm. :-) Only 4 hours to go and running out of ways to stay awake.

This boy says enough flash. Okay, I can't see the flash but I know you are doing it - just because. Can't wait till Leti lets me take photos without trying to be creative or holding her while I snap. Pups are lively and eating and sleeping. Dennis will have an easy night.

They Are Coming: Gallery And Videos Are Here

Click on Photo for Larger ViewFirst one born is a boy. He is a tri - tan feet. He was born ay 116pm and weighs 4-3/8oz - 126grams. Nathan got bit twice from Leti. Ouch. This is normal first delivery as it hurts.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewSecond one born is an Irish pied. He was born at 124pm. He weighs 5oz - 124grams. Both are quite active and eating. We await the next.

Click on photo for a larger viewThird one is also a boy. He was born at 151pm and weighed 5-1/4 ounce - 151 grams. Maybe he will be known as the 151 boy. :-) He is either brown or chocolate tri. No mistaken. When you see the photos after drying he is brown. #1 boy is also not a true black and looks like he may be brown. Time will tell.

Dennis is now going to sleep and I have to still stay awake and will be crawling into bed when Dennis gets up. I am trashed.

Here is the gallery - messy and all that though she was not that much of a messy delivery. Videos are coming up next. Look at the end of the gallery after the pups were almost dry to see them. Thanks goes to Gerda for the lovely blanket we added today. She brought it when we were watching her trio.

Here are the videos:

Pups Are Eating
This means that when Dennis gets up I crawl into bed. Realize I did not sleep all last night literally but I got the very best love from Leti. If pups were not eating well enough I would be sleeping now and doing night time duty. Dennis doesn't feel comfie enough if we have some bumps to contend with.

Leti Finally Sleeping
She has not eaten but that is normal as they can have upset tummies. Her delivery was uneventful. They came quick. Only issue was #1 boy thinking he was going to come sideways but he turned himself. Smart puppy.

Puppy #1 has a brown face bleeding through already. #2 is a tri as well. I thought I had a strictly black and white and was wondering where that came from.

Now we do the countdown to the 20th for Panda pups. Approx 9 more days for that xray. :-)

XRAY: She's Having 3

Click on Photo for Larger ViewAs Leti was small, we were afraid she was going to have tiny pups or just 1 and a large pup. So we canceled the long drive as we figure we wouldn't make it and I think we are right as she just broke her water bubble.

So 3 good sized it appears not too big - not too small but they may be coming feet first unless they turn. Today we find out.
